I think I'm going to go with a dragonborn wizard flavoured, flavoured as a lizard-folk named Ammos Grifstone.
I like the idea of my character being plucked up from their birthplace at a very young age- some kind of bog or mire where the lizardfolk live.
Young enough to have vague memories of characters but not old enough to be able to remember exactly why they were taken. (an attempt to subjugate the lizard-folk was made by taking 1 child from each household as a hostage. The taken were then adopted into noble families to hopefully influence better race relations in the near future.)
After being adopted into a Waterdavian human Noble household they were raised and flourished in high society and treated as kin. Their older sister is the family heir, allowing Ammos to go where his interest takes him. Which is towards the Arcane and Medicine.
The Arcane drew Ammos in with an early fascination, under tutelage he was able to manifest an aptitude for spellcasting and quickly began to see himself as a Mage. His interest in the Arcane was endless, and his love of magic had him marvelling in the city of Waterdeep, but through his studies, learned that the magics of today are but pale echo of the magic that came before- leading to his love of exploration and delving into the ancient places of the world to find magic and spells lost.
His interest in Medicine was lesser but with some of the best teachers at his disposal, Ammos has become a competent physician (Healer feat).
The Grifstone Family in Waterdeep were a recently elevated noble family who made wealth and fame in the mining, masonry and crafting trades. Growing up amongst it, Ammos developed a strong attachment to finer things; gems, precious metals and precious stones. So when the Rockseeker brothers came to Waterdeep with crates of gems and tales of their adventures to find them he was enthralled and became fast friends with the three.
Now an adult, Ammos learned from Gundren that he and his brothers had found "something big" and- unable to resist- Ammos asked Gundren to be allowed to join him on his latest adventure. Gundren allowed it, but despite Ammos's protests of not needing payment, Gundren just repeated "Fair pay for fair work".
