This list is updated weekly or as soon as you arrive in another star system.
OOC:
*For the sake of simplicity, most NPC sheets don't follow PC rules. All rolls above includes any attribute modifiers, skill bonus, or any other extra stuff that the NPC might have earned. Unless otherwise noted, the NPC doesn't have any foci and cannot participate in speculative trading rolls.
** If a skill is not mentioned in its skills list, the NPC rolls it using "2d6" or "2d6-1", as determined by the GM when needed.
*** If damage is not mentioned, the NPC rolls it using the weapon's stats, without any extra bonus. Very capable warriors might do additional damage on top of the weapon’s roll, from +1 to +4 points, but those cases are explicitly mentioned.

I thought we already hired Maya. We're definitely hiring her (and RB with her). No questions there.

Now, that said, we probably need to get enough crew to allow us to put the synths back to their old schedule. Hank wants to talk to Corbin about that. He has some ideas around that.

The first two that are most interesting are Gui Wang and Dr Susan Calvin. Gui is cheap and versatile, giving important backup. Unless something bad says no, we'll hire him. The doctor sounds intriguing, though may be too expensive. Regardless, Hank wants the interview.

Just getting Gui gets us to the minimum 10 we need to revert the synth schedule, but having a buffer would be good, so a couple more would help.

First, Xia seems like a decent choice. Cheap and raw, they could be a good general grunt and porter. Definite interview and likely hire.

Next, would Appius Pompeius count as a "guard" for the purposes of our shipping requirements? They are the least expensive to hire, and an extra guard would be good to have.

Another one that is interesting is Mitsunobu Abe. He provides backup for Connect and Talk, allowing us options. Plus he has Perform, too. And he's sturdier than anyone but Maya. I just don't know if he's worth the expense.

Not sure we need a duplicate doctor, another criminal (who is openly a criminal), or a chaplain. Hank will interview the criminal and cleric just to see where they are coming from, though they are down the list.

Also, as mentioned in the main thread, let's figure out everyone's pay so I know how this all fits. Plus the extra crew will let Mariella be a guest again if she wants.

Assuming Maya is already on board, Hank wants to hire a minimum of two more, preferably three. Depending on how things work out, four is always an option.

So, based on the other NPCs, I think all PCs could expect 100 credits / day as wages. But you may have other benefits to reduce or even remove that. Ship shares maybe?

Let's hire him. I wanna keep those NPCs in the background as much as possible and let the players add details to them as needed. No obvious red flags in all of them.

I will post something IC as Dr. Calvin tomorrow in this thread, I guess. She is a special case.

He does count as a "guard". =)

No hidden red flags. So feel free to consider everything that is writen in my post above as everything that I know of them. All players will be invited to contribute to those NPCs personalities and backstories IF they are hired.

I honestly don't see the Captain doing ship shares, though I could be delightfully and completely wrong on that! Also, we did suspend pay for a little while. But, looking at the NPCs above, I'd say that the pay scale for PCs likely should be:
Hank: 300 credits / day. (Because of 3d6h2+2 for Trade AND 3d6h2+2 for Program.)
Corbin: 300 credits / day. (Because of 4d6h2+3 for Fix and 2d6+2 for Program.)
Douklan: 300 credits / day. (Because of Pilot/Starfarer and Shoot.)
Mercer: 100 credits / day. (He seems on par with the other Physician and the Entertainer.)
Peter: 30 credits / day. (Gets shafted because his most important abilities are unknown to us.)

However, Douklan is getting paid by the Navy, so we don't need to worry about him unless he quits the Navy and joins our crew. For the rest of us, I am going to assume we are actually just at 100 credits / day for the rest of the PCs (Hank, Corbin, Mercer, Peter). Hank's going to want to up Erin's pay to match, too, if we can afford it.

Hank will run the budget to see how much everyone is owed for missed pay and make sure we're all good. With the 200K we have now, and with the incoming 300K-synth body, we should have enough to pay everyone AND to have a decent enough reserve.

Shortened the message above to the still relevant portion.
We hire Gui, Xia, and Appius straight up. Gui will be Corbin's assistant. Xia and Appius will help Erin as general crew. (BTW, is Xia male or female? For that matter, how about Gui? I'm assuming Appius is male. Or is that something we have to make up ourselves? If so, I'm guessing Gui is male and Xia is female. Feel free to make any of them non-binary.)

We'll go through the interview for Dr. Susan. If her skills and interests intersect, she will be a very interesting and helpful hire. Maybe Hank doesn't need to become a robot psychiatrist after all. Maybe she can teach him to be. Regardless, she could be very, very helpful!

And if any of the players want to advocate for someone else, we can definitely consider them!

Yeah... I have been thinking... I don't think so, either. Crew rotation is pretty high, so she should just pay their wages and let them come and go as they wish. Let's keep this just as credits.

I rolled Xia's name in a random table for female names. Gui for male. Players can (re)define their pronouns when they appear.

Edit: Scratch that. I am moving Susan to the main thread =)

I will update the Celestial Voyager's sheet tomorrow, but will consider that Maya, RB, Gui, Xia, and Appius will join you as you depart from Zyronis at Day 166. Susan is pending. We will handle her in the main thread.

I will see how much everyone is owed for missed pay and tell you in this thread.

We can start with the pay outlined above. Assuming we get enough money, I want to bump Hank and Corbin and Maya to 150, and Erin to at least 50, if not 100. The three new ones will be increased over time, as they prove their worth to 50 and eventually 100.
Jul 30, 2024 12:31 am
It's not uncommon for something like a guaranteed pay bump at a certain number of months.
I could see signing on for 50 cred/day and with the promise of more at certain points (3, 6, 9 months etc. )
Edit: are we actually getting this money ?
Also if we are we should take some automatic reduction for living expenses?

Have you been getting this money? No. We held pay for a little while as we recovered from the crew defection and being low on funds.

Will you be paid going forward? Yes. That's what we're figuring out now.

If we can, he'll even get back pay going.
Jul 30, 2024 5:54 pm
Back pay: 24,100 credits due

Start End Who How much for each (credits)
119 165 Main crew (Hank, Corbin, Erin, Jil) 4,600
162 165 Mercer300
138 165 Morgan, Mariella 2,700
Jul 30, 2024 6:14 pm
We'll definitely get back pay going.

Also, are there any more crew requirement thresholds Hank needs to worry about to qualify for more freight. He's gonna want to get freight for the next jump, in addition to any more speculative cargo.

Nope. Its illegal for a starship to sell life support, food, quarters, etc for its own crew. Its always included as part of your work arrangements.

That's it. There is effectively a "soft cap" with freight. It is slowly increasing. Speculative is the way to get the big bucks.
Jul 30, 2024 8:32 pm
That's what I thought, but just wanted to make sure.
Aug 1, 2024 6:36 pm
As an aside, Hank will start preparing for Jil to leave on her own. We are intending to go on an expedition to where we believe significant Elder artifacts are to be found. The chances of running into another AI are high. The chances of running into multiple Elder artifacts are virtually guaranteed. If she is not comfortable with that, she should not be involved past Altairia. Note that there is no desire for her to leave. Just facing the reality of her fear of the Elder not meshing with our stated goals.

Assuming that we don't hire Dr. Calvin, we will now have a crew of 13. Not including Jil, that is 12. Hank's goal is to get that number up to 20 or so, by the time we leave Altairia. This is so that we are not operating on a razor-edge and so that we don't even have to contemplate activating the synths like we did before. He does not want as many crew as we had before. Just enough so they can have a double-shift if needed, and so they have proper redundancies.

That means he wants a Medical-1 assistant for Maya, two more Fix-1s to support Corbin, another pilot, and whatever other redundancies we think we will need going forward. None of these need to be high-powered. Base level for most is probably fine for our purposes.
Aug 2, 2024 12:42 am
I dont know if they'd be interested in joining ( or if they'll survive our adventure), but Lucia Calidius has some engineering and combat experience. She(I think is she) is on Peter and Mercer's side adventure.
There was also Abigail Wood, who we didn't hire, but has some piloting ability (+1).
That would bring our crew total to 14 with out Jill.
Aug 2, 2024 12:55 am
A sneak peek from behind the GM screen: I will roll for 9 to 12 random crew members in each star system that you visit from now on and can roll 5 more for 300 credits. Several times. Ex: 900 credits gets a total of something close to 25 random crew.

Names, skills, backgrounds, levels... Everything is random. With enough jumps, luck or some credits you can easily get those 20 members. =)

Edit: I may replace 1 or 2 random ones for pregens, like I did for Maya, but that's the exception not the rule.
