The following are topics that I wish to address before the one shot can start.
1. How do we want to handle reactions? If, for example, a player has the shield spell and is hit such that the shield spell would make the attack miss, do we assume the player uses the reaction, give them 24 hours to say if they do, or do something else? The results may impact what a monster does, such as if they landed a constrict or not, or if they move on to a different player with their next attack or try again on the player that they missed due to shield.
2. Are there any topics that cross a line for anyone? By default, I may describe something as gruesome but try not to get into the realm of gore. I also generally prefer to avoid profanity in my games.
3. What should we do if a player seems to go inactive? My general policy is if a player is tagged/mentioned and does not reply in 48 hours (this time does not count during the weekends), either their opinion is not asked for (in the case of a decision) or they take the most basic action (in the case of combat). As such, if I put up a poll to decide what you all do and a player has not voted in 48 hours, they lose their vote. If it is their turn in combat and they do not post in 48 hours, I will make them cast a cantrip or take the attack action or, if in a lot of danger, take the dodge action.
4. Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition does not assume magic items for encounter design. As you all will have magic items, what do you think about monsters, namely bosses, having magic items? If so, what kind are okay? +1/2/3 armor? Staffs with spells? +1/2/3 weapon? Spell scroll?
5. What would you like to do about rests? The more long rests, the deadlier each fight has to be to compensate for less resource loss. The less long rest, the easier each fight can be as you are losing resources like spell slots and hit dice that are not resetting.
