ABSTRACT DECKPLANS
Usually, just knowing the ship's hull and fittings are enough. Sometimes, though, we may need a detailed grid for combat or movement inside the ship. Before we get to hundreds of grids to depict a small cruizer, an intermediate level of detail is knowing the ship's decks and sections.

A deck is like a floor of a building, but for spaceships. A deck is 10 feet high.

A section is a textual description of what's inside a 20 x 20 square area inside the starship. That's roughly equivalent to an area with 100 feet wide x 100 feet long. Unless noted otherwise, a section is one deck high.

CELESTIAL VOYAGER
The Celestial Voyager (see link for details) has a cigar-shaped hull divided into 5 decks (1 to 5) of 5 sections (A to E). The image below illustrate the shape of the ship. Section 1.A is the bottom deck in the bow (forward) section. Section 5.E is the upper deck in the aft (rear) section.
