It is the 41st Millennium. For almost a thousand centuries, the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium, for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.
To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. Fortunately, you are not just a man - you're one of the richest men that humanity has ever seen. You are a Rogue Trader, and the uncharted depths of the galaxy are your playground. You and your closest advisors plumb the darkness, find lost human civilisations, dread xenos, The Witch, The Mutant, and The Heretic. And, most importantly, profit.
There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.
Strap on your most expensive hat, and wolf down this white truffle and caviar sandwich, Lord-Captain - we're going to Hell and back.
I love running Rogue Trader, but my God I hate the system.
I have always wanted to try RTA (a Powered by the Apocalypse hack, found for free HERE) - a more narrative-heavy exploration of the setting, giving more scope for intrigue, unusual plots and not being bogged down playing Hunt the Modifier.
I will most likely be using the rough structure of the Lure of the Expanse adventure as the basis for the game, with plenty of changes, expansions and skips to hopefully keep things a little different for anyone who has already played/run that particular adventure.
For character options, I would prefer if people stuck with the Human options, but if all players agree, we might be able to take a non-human in the crew.
I am also willing to take on newbies, both to 40k and PbtA games. The system is easy to teach, and tends to stay out of the way when you want it to. I will go more in depth about how I plan to run the game once I get some interest.
As the 40k setting is the origin of the word "grimdark", you can expect violence, dark themes and some pretty harsh language. Note that the game does have Sex Moves as a core mechanic - you don't need to use these, but it should give something of an idea of the sort of games this system might produce.
Ideally, I would like people to post at least once a day, though I know that can be a big ask!
I will take players on a first come, first served basis, though I may ask people to be standbys if we have early dropouts.
And, seeing as 40k games always attract a certain type of person - this game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups. If you don't like that, don't ask to join!
