It is the 41st Millennium. For almost a thousand centuries, the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium, for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. Fortunately, you are not just a man - you're one of the richest men that humanity has ever seen. You are a Rogue Trader, and the uncharted depths of the galaxy are your playground. You and your closest advisors plumb the darkness, find lost human civilisations, dread xenos, The Witch, The Mutant, and The Heretic. And, most importantly, profit.

There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Strap on your most expensive hat, and wolf down this white truffle and caviar sandwich, Lord-Captain - we're going to Hell and back.

I love running Rogue Trader, but my God I hate the system.

I have always wanted to try RTA (a Powered by the Apocalypse hack, found for free HERE) - a more narrative-heavy exploration of the setting, giving more scope for intrigue, unusual plots and not being bogged down playing Hunt the Modifier.

I will most likely be using the rough structure of the Lure of the Expanse adventure as the basis for the game, with plenty of changes, expansions and skips to hopefully keep things a little different for anyone who has already played/run that particular adventure.

For character options, I would prefer if people stuck with the Human options, but if all players agree, we might be able to take a non-human in the crew.

I am also willing to take on newbies, both to 40k and PbtA games. The system is easy to teach, and tends to stay out of the way when you want it to. I will go more in depth about how I plan to run the game once I get some interest.

As the 40k setting is the origin of the word "grimdark", you can expect violence, dark themes and some pretty harsh language. Note that the game does have Sex Moves as a core mechanic - you don't need to use these, but it should give something of an idea of the sort of games this system might produce.

Ideally, I would like people to post at least once a day, though I know that can be a big ask!

I will take players on a first come, first served basis, though I may ask people to be standbys if we have early dropouts.

And, seeing as 40k games always attract a certain type of person - this game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups. If you don't like that, don't ask to join!

Never played RTA, but I love sci-fi, space trading and I am very interested in playing a PbTA game! Count me in. =)

Awesome! Check the rules and the playbooks, see if any of the roles jump out at you! Any questions, feel free to ask

Perhaps a void born Navigator or, if no one else has a similar concept, an Arch-Militant who served in the ranks of the Imperial Guard but now works with a Rogue Trader as his personal agent of destruction.

I'm quite flexible to play something else too, it will depend on other people's interest.

Warhammer RPG? Count me in! This will run the latest books or the cool ones from Fantasy Flight?

Neither! We'll be using the Rogue Trader Apocalypse rules, linked in the original post. It's a Powered by the Apocalypse hack - give it a read, you'll see it's much more narrative-driven than the other games (and should be easier in PbP).

Yes, I read it. I am in either way. Time to dust off my catachans!

Those books will still be good for setting info though! Like I said, I'll be using a FFG adventure and parts of the FFG RT setting, so it might be worth giving them a glance over.

Familiar with Rogue Trader, and have played some PBTA (Monster Hearts, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Monster of the Week). I'd be interested in Dilletante, Explorator or possibly Rogue Trader playbooks.

Sounds good! I've never run a PbtA before, but from what I have seen it's fairly similar to some stuff I have done, so I'm happy to see how it goes!

While we wait to see if anyone else wants in - you three can hash out your characters here while we wait?

Or, feel free to ask any questions you might have about the system or setting!

If you could create the game and invite us, even while we wait for someone else, would work better for me. =)

I am not notified when there are new posts in the tavern... A game also has a couple of other features that would make it easier to write our PCs together. =)

The game is up, and invites are out!

I would be interested in playing if I can be the bombastic space pirate totally legitimate business captain, i.e., Rogue Trader. Spaceship battles woooooooo!

Bring us a broadside, coxwain! Beat to quarters!

You can hash it out with the other players in the Character Creation thread in the game!

I’d love to give it a shot if you have room for one more! I’m only just getting to know the 40K universe and its lore, but this game seems like right up my alley!

Ooh, this looks fabulous! I’m very familiar with PbtA, and somewhat familiar with the 40k setting. If you still need players I’d be very keen.

Interested to give this one a try. I am a big fan of Warhammer 40k and I have all the other rpgs of Warhammer 40k. I haven't played PbtA that much, but this will be interesting. If you have a free spot, I will love to give this a try.

As AceRancheros was first, they get the fifth slot!

If we have anyone drop out, I will let you guys know
