Thread for out of character discussions.

I saw your post in the forums, and I also hope to see more 13th Age on this site. I ran a game, but by the time it was over, realized that I needed more experience with the system and wanted to try things out as a player.

Yeah thanks for running this Cale! As you know form the other game I am super green. So sorry if I get a bit lost.
Oct 4, 2016 4:42 pm
I've DMed a ton of 13th Age. I've only had limited experience playing it, though, so I'm very excited to finally get to play more.

So thank you very much for running this.

Thought that I should probably move this conversation here instead of in the Applications.

So, if I'm not mistaken, we have:

Human Monk
Half-Elf Sorcerer
Forgeborn Commander
Human Rogue
Human Druid

Sounds like a good party!

I'm new to GP so I don't know what the standard is, but do we submit backstories, and if so, do we put them into the Notes of our Character Sheets, or PM them to the GM?
Oct 6, 2016 2:40 am
Finished up and submitted my character. First time in my life I opted not to procrastinate, maybe!

You'll not get any more lost than I'll get from time to time. We'll work through it together.

OK, so the way I treat back stories is this: I don't read them. They don't alter my enjoyment of the game one way or the other. I just don't have time to read them for every character in every game I run. I view my job as GM to help you create your ongoing story.

That said, this game is about your enjoyment so if a back story helps with that, rounding out your character a bit more then feel free to generate one. I'm just saying that I prefer to busy myself with your character's present story. Hope that makes sense.

You're welcome. Thank you for joining the game. There's no GM without the players and vice versa.

It makes plenty of sense, and saves me some time. I'm ready to play, then!
Oct 10, 2016 6:18 pm
And we're off! Very excited to be playing!
Oct 11, 2016 5:09 pm
Phil, would you like me to delete my post? I can do a new one in response to yours.
Oct 11, 2016 5:11 pm
I think everyone should delete their posts, this is too spooky :(((((((((((((((
Oct 11, 2016 5:12 pm
They don't necessarily contradict. We could have been going round for a long while.
Oct 11, 2016 5:19 pm
Just offering, if it'd be easier!

Let's keep it going.

I'm just putting this out there early, but I can't keep up with 10+ posts/day. I don't necessarily want the game to be held up on my account, but it may mean playing around my character.

I don't mind slowing down, if need be!

Understood. I think we're maybe just getting carried away because it's new. I'll slow down my posting and hopefully everyone else will do the same.

How would you like to handle rest for the forgeborn?

I'm not sure what you mean? I can't see anything in the Forgeborn race section about rest. Enlighten me :)
Oct 20, 2016 3:24 am
Haha! Exactly my point! Since the Forgeborn is a machine, how should we go about resting? It seems unreasonable to think it goes forever without some kind of shutdown time. We could play it that way, or we could play it that the forgeborn requires some kind of stasis period every so often.

Thoughts, opinions?

My feeling is that it should have some kind of downtime to recharge it's batteries, so to speak. Then again, maybe it could recharge them some other way, like walking. If think of electric bicycles that recarge their batteries by braking, this could be another way.

I just feel like I should put this out there. In the name of fairness, I think it should need rest, but that's me.

You've answered your own question. Let's go with the suggestions you've made above. It sounds both fair and interesting in terms of the story.
Oct 20, 2016 8:26 pm
Ok, cool. We'll go with movement recharging the forgeborn, sitting still on idle just wears it down. Too much of that it will become inert. Fun!
Oct 24, 2016 4:43 am
Sorry guys I was on vacation and I thought Id have internet.
Oct 24, 2016 10:16 pm
Sorry it's going a bit slower than anticipated. My son is sick at the moment so there's a lot of time dealing with that and in and out of hospital sporadically. Bear with me.
Oct 25, 2016 1:31 am
As a parent, I understand and think I'm probably not alone in saying obviously take care of your son and I hope all is well.
Oct 25, 2016 5:20 am
No worries at all!
Oct 31, 2016 11:09 pm
Are we going to look for a replacement player for the game, or just go on with 4?

I just haven't got round to advertising but if you know anyone who would be interested let me know by tomorrow. Otherwise I'll post for a replacement.

My wife's birthday is coming up and we're doing a party tomorrow, so I'll be gone for most of the day. Might find an opportunity to post if my turn comes up, but if I don't, then do not fret; I'll be back on Sunday :)

Don't worry. I've been toiling a bit anyway this past week as my son is sick. I'll pick up some moves this weekend but don't worry if it doesn't resume properly until Monday.
Nov 5, 2016 6:13 pm
Take your time man. Hope your son feels better.
Nov 6, 2016 1:46 am
Real life comes first.
Nov 6, 2016 12:30 pm
Thanks guys. He has Leukemia so it's a long hard slog. Most of the time it's fine but some days are a bit more challenging due to the treatment. He's in remission though so we've crossed the first major hurdle but it's 3 more years of chemotherapy and there are days where he's just not that well.
Nov 6, 2016 8:44 pm
Sure man, take whatever time you need. My prayers go to him and your family.
Nov 7, 2016 2:17 am
Holy smokes...look, if you disappear for awhile because of this stuff, don't worry about us. That's waaaay more pressing than this game.
Nov 7, 2016 7:33 pm
Sorry guys, I may have confused matters here. My son was diagnosed 7 weeks ago. While it's all stress all the time, we're no longer at that crazy, living out of the hospital stage. He's undergoing chemotherapy and most of the treatment is at home. It's just occasionally he'll feel a wee bit under the weather and I'll miss a day. I'm by no means suggesting we break from the game. Gaming is keeping me sane.

How do you want to handle "Staggered" as a condition? Is it just to make characters targets, or will there modifiers or what not?

To be fair I'm simply marking it to let people know that creatures are down to half hit points or less. Some effects (both PC and Monster) do additional things when the target is staggered.
Nov 14, 2016 6:27 pm
Guys, sorry for the slow response to posts. I had a couple of night in hospital with my son and the world's worst internet connection. I'll resume normal posting later this evening.
Nov 30, 2016 5:20 pm
Sorry that I haven't been very active. I'll catch up asap.

Really appreciating Ygne's input man. Super funny to read.
Dec 1, 2016 4:02 am
Thanks! She's just a bad-mannered jerk.
Dec 8, 2016 2:33 am
I should be free and open to post in about 4-5 days. I'll be around between now and then, but just letting you all know why there's been lags for me the last few days. Real-life is a little crazy right now.
Dec 10, 2016 2:45 pm
Guys,

I have to be honest and say that with the way life is at the moment, with Christmas coming and with a sick child, I'm toiling to maintain this game. You've probably noticed a slackening in my posting and the reality is that I just can't continue it for the time being.

I'm currently running a couple of other games but this is unfortunately the one where the adventure module is much looser and requires me to create much more content on the fly, which I'm just struggling to juggle with my life commitments.

Hopefully you can understand the situation.

Mark

Not at all man. You do what you gotta do for your family. I'm in a bunch of games, its cool if one or two move slow.
Dec 12, 2016 9:49 am
No worries! I totally understand. :)
Dec 13, 2016 3:58 am
No problem, and thank you for starting it in the first place.

Enjoy your holidays!
