People flee the chaos of the Old Country, seeking refuge wherever they might find it. For centuries, the Weird Wizard cast a shadow from the east, his mere presence deterrent enough to keep explorers and settlers from venturing too far beyond the borderlands that stood between the so-called new lands and those of enlightenment, culture, law, and order.
Some saw him as a mad sorcerer who commanded eldritch powers of staggering might. As proof, one only has to look at all the abominations he set loose in the lands—the hybrid beasts, the multilegged hulking collectors, floating eyes that hang in the air trailing their nerve endings. And then, far, far beyond the edges of the new lands rose the walls of the Forbidden City and the clockwork peoples who dwelled there in seeming servitude to the dread mage who ruled over all he surveyed.
But the Weird Wizard is gone. His shadow remains, but the figure casting it disappeared and none, not even his closest servants, know where he went. It might be coincidence that his absence preceded the bloody civil war that tore the Great Kingdom apart and that precipitated the violent struggle between the other nations in the west, or the Weird Wizard might have had some stabilizing influence that enabled civilization to flourish once more following a far older, nastier decline. Too, he could have been the source of the conflict and abandoned the world to its fate.
Either way, the instability sends people by the thousands spilling into the borderlands. As this territory grows more and more crowded, refugees are looking to the east to make their homes. The first forays into the strange place have ended with disappearances and death, and the few people who have returned carry tales of hostile inhabitants, cruel faeries, and hideous, ravenous monsters. If the new lands would be tamed, there must be peace with the inhabitants.
Such efforts demand heroes. Luckily, there might just be a few around...
I'm getting ready to begin a campaign using the "Shadow of the Weird Wizard" rules. We will be starting at level 1 and I plan on running through several of the pre-published quests. I'm looking for 4 to 6 players to join the game! I'm still reading through the books so it will probably be another week or two until everything gets started. Chime in here to let me know if you're interested!

Is the material for the campaign using "Shadow of the Weird Wizard" available and free? Or is there some kind of investment needed? My interest has limits.
Shadow of the Weird Wizard
It is a complete ruleset spun off from the "Shadow of the Demon Lord" game from Rob Schwalb. It is not free, unfortunately. You can get the player's handbook PDF here. However, I'm happy to provide the relevant rules for you to make a character and play if you don't want to purchase the rulebook. :)
This sounds intriguing. What kind of posting rate are you looking for and approximately how long would the campaign be?
I usually am able to post either once a day or once every other day, and I would hope any potential players would be able to keep a similar pace. I plan to run the campaign all the way through level 10 or until the players get bored and don't want to play any more. :D
I would love to join a Shadow of the Weird Wizard game. I am glad that you will be running it. If you have a free slot, I would definitely join.
Hi! I'm backer of this game on KS, and have the book you linked. Was waiting for a long time to play this game here(or at all), so hoping to get invite:) But: I don't play at weekends.
I don’t post on weekends either, so that’s not an issue. :)
It sounds interesting! I haven't tried the system yet but reading the description I could be interested, if you're willing to take someone completely new to the system.
Interested! I don't know this system, but that's par for the course.
Don't have a character in mind. Willing to make whatever the party needs.
Stalker, Pedrop, Judy, Totes, all four of you are welcome to join. I'll get the forum up and running either tomorrow or Wednesday. :)
I'll take a few more people too if others are interested.

Awesome! I'll take a gander at the PDF and all that.
I haven't gotten around to trying Shadow of the Demon Lord's ruleset yet, so I'd be interested in the campaign.

I'm interested.
Alright, that's 6 so I'll cap it there for now. I've created the forum and sent out invites.
Judy has decided to bow out of contention, so there is another spot open in this game again if there is somebody else interested.
How weird we talk'n here? Because my entire vibe is weird.
It is mostly a fantasy game but 'weird' here is related to the important character of 'weird wizard', an all powerful individual who has populated a significant part of the continent with his experimental creations, be it sentient clockwork automatons or terrifying monsters. However, he is currently absent as in no-one knowns where he is. As for the 'weird', you can expect as much weird as it is commonly acceptable in fantasy genre.
So the world is weird but characters are along the lines of general epic fantasy? Not grafted mutations and sapient diseases and some Jeff Vandermeer/China Meiville type strangeness?
Correct. Most PCs are humans, with a smattering of other ancestries from the familiar (dwarves, elves, halflings) to a few more unusual ones (rabbitfolk, furry giants, shapechangers that can shift between human and cat forms).
If you end up needing another player, I'd be interested. :)
You can have the last spot! Invite sent. :D
Closing recruitment for now. Thanks to all who applied or expressed interest.
