Patter lived most of his life in an old temple to Orathun. The temple didn't see much use but Patter and the Priests did their best to take care of the place. Like most Kenku, he earned his name by the sound of common action they take. It was the way he moved: robes and sandals on stone, precise and intentional, a thoughtful Patter.
Patter didn't set out to be a Priest but proximity and exposure taught him much of what he would need in the trials to come.
The day of the accident began like any other in the late autumn: sweeping the steps of the temple, tidying the cemetery, and helping the parishioners and passersby with offerings or directions respectively. It was a Merchant's Oxcart. The merchant had never been to the temple before, didn't know that sometimes, late in the season when game is scarce, predators will wander near the forest's edge and try to steal livestock.
There was a roar, a snarl, panicked yelling. Patter rushed to the scene to find chaos. A predator from the woods had come to prey on the beasts of burden. One of the priests intervened by casting a warding spell but the Ox was already panicked. The predator fled the scene but the ox gored the priest from behind.
Patter’s friend was dying, there was nothing to do, no one around. Patter felt the presence without knowing it, a warm confidence and guidance to use it. In the gored priests’ own voice, Patter spoke the words of healing that he had heard countless times before and the power of his god flowed through him and into the faithful.
The priest was healed, Patter was praised, and the merchant learned a little about the dangers of a new land.
The Priests of Orathum discussed and with Patter’s newfound powers, it was time he venture into the world to learn and experience it. Perhaps one day he will return; perhaps Patter will find his calling elsewhere.
[The hermit background suggests that I work with the DM to have a piece of knowledge or a revelation, perhaps a unique and important discovery. Perhaps that is what led to Patter to the specific village of Aurathorne]
Patter left on his pilgrimage to find purpose, his own voice, and a deeper connection to the god that had chosen to look upon him with favor in a time of great need.
Patter arrived at Aurathorne wide-eyed and slightly overwhelmed at the amount of people a true town is home to.
Physical Description: an average-sized Kenku with green eyes, awkward and still new to his gear but proficient with it nonetheless.
