The large, winged machine’s eyes glow purple as the Double Dashers peel out.

There’s a sound of robotic limbs shifting, torsos folding, gears spinning—as robots big and small transform! The little robots become rusty shitboxes, and the big one? A sleek, aerodynamic monster-cybertruck!

Luckily, transforming takes time, so Players, you get the first move! You are currently on a straightaway with ZERO items. This limits the Gunner to ☢️BLAST this round. The Driver can pull a 🕹️STUNT to maintain a relatively advantageous position.

But what’s probably the most important thing to do this round is establish your position as Driver or Gunner. Or maybe it isn’t that important, since you can switch any time.

The Driver and Gunner of each vehicle can both act once per round. If the Gunner presses ☢️-ITEM, you use an item. The roll can’t possibly fail. Instead, the item will turn out to be 🔥HOT, ❄️COOL or 🧚🏻‍♀️MAGICAL. Don’t worry about the vague distinction until you actually have an item.

For now, decide whether you want to stay in the Gunner’s chair or hop into the Driver’s seat. You may opt to roll both Gunner and Driver, or if you don’t, I will roll your Vixen partner (who just happens to have the same ROLL stats as you do).

Cass takes stock of the gunner seats blaster. It's not the kind of equipment she's used to, but to her mind all vehicle weapons do the same sort of thing and if she can win space battles then she can win here. She gives Violet a nod, trusting the Vixen can keep a good pace and avoid anger just as she hopefully trusts Cass' aim.

It'd take both of them a moment to get settled, though.

Valerie floors it! Thundra can’t get a clean shot as her driver leaves the Daughterbots eating her dust!

What she can get is an item that somehow was loaded onto the Double-Dasher as the valkyrie jumped her kart and did a barrel roll (which is not normally a recommended stunt, but hey, she landed it)!

OOC:

No need to defend this round! Instead, Thundra has an item which she may use at any time!

Meanwhile, Cass manages to wing one of the rusty shitboxes. Its windshield with the television-screen-glow starts to crack. A light inside the machine seems to bounce around within the vehicle.

A catapult on the back of the car launches a giant banana at Violet and Cass!

"I mean left!" She quickly serves the other way—which is right!

"AAAAAH!! I was right the first time!" Tires screech as the frog princess goes left like Luna said!

Luna’s fire extinguisher manages to spray the giant eraser, so it only smudges the kart’s spoiler. But that sets off the Spoiler Alert, which causes Vivian to panic even louder. She crashes her Double-Dasher into the Motherborg’s rollerskate, then speeds away as the oversized robot stumbles!

Thundra’s bomb hits the road just past Luna’s kart! It bursts into bright blue flames—cold fire! The road is covered in glare ice causing the giant robot (who was already flailing about on one skate) to fall flat on its back! One of the rusty shitboxes is crushed! Three of the remaining four spin out of control!

Valerie"Nicely done, Warrior!" The Valkyrie flips off the spinning robot cars and says something extremely rude in Olde Nordic.

From her expression, it is clear that Valerie is self-aware enough to realize she has disgraced herself. A single feather is shed from her left wing.

A banana? Well, a stun shot isn't going to do much to an inert peel. More than that, as an upstanding commander of the Space Defence Force, Cass is always up to date with her diet and has at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. VioletViolet tries her best to dodge the banana! But while the banana itself misses, a tire goes over the peel! Cass sees the chaos behind her as the kart spins out of control!

When the giant Motherborg crushes a Daughterbot car, a light flies out of the shattering TV-screen window! A spark? So it appears at a glance, but as Cass’ car continues it’s 1080-degree spin, she sees the light is actually the glow of a fairy, no bigger than Luna!

On the third spin, the fairy swoops into the Double-Dasher!

"You saved me!" she says breathily, practically collapsing in the cupholder next to Cass’ seat. "My mother and sisters are trapped in those machines! A.C. doesn’t want you to reach the demiplane!"

As the fairy points ahead, Cass, Luna and Thundra can all see it. It’s a vermilion swirl in the sky so large it seems to swallow the road.

Somehow, Cass knows… Vera is on the other side.

The fairy goes on, "It doesn’t need my mother anymore except to stop you. It has a new hostess now."

As Vivian speeds ahead, passing the other karts, Luna starts to piece together what the fairy is saying. The fairy is not Missy Girl, but she does have a green glow and a faint aroma that is unmistakably absinthe.

Meanwhile, Thundra sees a flying metal horse with two ladies on the saddle. It’s Pira and the princess!

Princess Diamond"Oh, do giddy-up, Sparkyheart." She turns to Pira (not watching the road at all, since Sparkyheart apparently does ALL the driving) and says to Pira, "Well, if fairies are trapped in those machines, you are the bodyguard of everyone here."

Short exposition:
• Pira, Diamond and Kurumi got separated trying to chase down the machines that had taken Missy Girl (who we can now surmise is the fairy trapped in the Motherborg).
• They fought off a few machines, which turned out to be normal people covered in metal plating.
• After a few good kicks from Pira, the metal broke off of the flesh, and the people were unharmed! Most had no recollection of being overtaken by the machines, but some mentioned seeing a metal spider skitter toward them.
• Pinky was able to locate Cass, and so, Princess Diamond used her Panic Button to summon her mount. And that is how you ended up here.
• As for Kurumi, she is with the Mini-K’s. As soon as Pinky is fully repaired, they’ll pick you all up. (That of course will happen after you beat the main villain.)

Our heroines are almost a third of the way to the portal, and with the giant robot stumbling on the ice slick from Thundra’s bomb, the enemy is eating the Double-Dashers’ dust!

However, there’s an obstacle up ahead. Or rather, lots of obstacles. It seems the Tree of Infinite Knowledge is dropping infinite apples. And the apples are as big as your carts!

Apples weren't any better than bananas. Well, they were because Cass preferred apple flavoured gum but she didn't need any more fruit in her diet, that hadn't changed from five seconds ago. Violet had just managed to get the kart on track too. Not that she'd expected anything less from a Vixen, but Violet had impressive driving skills. She had just as much skill behind the flight stick of a space fighter.

Well, Cass though as she primed her blaster, it was time for some clay pigeon shooting... or falling apples? Was there a better joke or analogy, or even a pun? Something about bad apples far from the tree? Cass distracted herself long enough that she was once again thankful for Violet's driving.

Sparkyheart jets past the karts, ramming through the apples with such force that none of the bits of applesauce stick to the princess’ gown!

One of the giant peels sticks to the horse’s rear, however. Pira can toss it onto the road anytime.

OOC:

🍌 A PEEL TO A FRIEND causes an enemy to spin out, negating any attack directed at a friend.
• HOT - the rescued friend is random
• COOL - the rescuer’s friend is your choice
• MAGICAL - both a random and chosen friend are rescued

Cass is close behind. She fails to shoot an apple, which spatters onto the little door over her Double-Dasher’s Mr. Fusion green-energy converter.

Thundra and Luna are pelted with apples, but fortunately, they’re soft and squishy, so the karts take very little damage.

The giant Motherborg and her remaining Daughterbots fire up jet-skates and rocket boosters!

For some reason it goes out of its way NOT to hit Thundra or Luna. It’s right behind Cass now, slowly gaining…!

"You can't stop a piranha with fruit, we don't eat them! But you know what *you* are going to eat? This! Banana ahoy!" She swings and throws the banana peel straight towards the opponents!

Using item: if COOL/MAGICAL, protect whoever gets hit with highest priority on whoever has the lowest current/maximum health. If no one gets hit at all, then I suppose I'm just being annoying to the opponents. :P

Carrot rockets are bad. Falling fruit is bad. A kart out of control is bad. Put them all together and you have a recipe for disaster. Cass barely has time to react and throw herself over Violet protectively before the impact, wincing the entire time and hoping the kart somehow righted itself perfectly.

Why did she have to enjoy racing? She swore she'd never be a daredevil driver again. Like usual.

ValerieJagged bolts dance across the Thunderblade as it bears down onto Thundra’s sword! But the impact is softened as a giant banana peel wraps the oversized sword!

"You are indeed a worthy shieldmaiden," Valerie exclaims as Thundra parries a blade much bigger than herself.

The Motherborg’s blade does A LOT of damage, even on a hit. Pira’s item negated it!

VivianLuna weighs next to nothing, but her sudden move (with help from the pixel dust shanked onto the kart?) forces Vivian to veer to one side!

"Yeep!" she shouts as a Daughterbot rams into her! But thanks to Luna’s dodge, the second Daughterbot’s impact barely makes a dent. Vivian looks to the bots on either side and asks Luna, "What’re we gonna do?"

VioletThe blue shell passes over Cass, but the rockets strike! She tries in vain to dodge the carrot missiles, but it’s no use. They’re red.

"Homing carrots! AAAAAAAH!! I’M A GONER!!"

Purple chunks of twisted metal fly from Violet’s Double-Dasher! A hub cap separates from the front wheel and rolls down the Neo Eden road a bit, until it embeds itself in a tree trunk.

"I’m not a goner. I… panicked. Sorry, Commander."

Not far beyond the tree is the vermilion glow from Vera’s portal…!

Princess Diamond"Ooh! We made it, Pira. We need only pass through this tunnel and OH MY GOODNE—!!!"

The blue spiked shell crashes from above, bursting into a big blue ball of light!

Sparkyheart loses its tail and its sparkle as chunks of metal fly! When the smoke clears, the mechanical horse is missing an eye, its underbelly is ablaze with chartreuse flames and its snout emits golden sparks!

The Daughterbots ride in formation intent on stopping you as the Motherborg tosses her blade, and raises an impenetrable shield..!

OOC:

Gunners: you can attack (Shoot) the Daughterbots this round.

Drivers: you can attack (Fight) or speed like crazy toward the portal and let the gunner handle attacks.

Cass gives Violet a reassuring pat, then makes a switch gesture. She waits for Violet to shift out of place, then settles into the drivers seat. She takes a break and lets it settle, while her hands close around the wheel with growing confidence. Now it's time for her to really show off her driving skills, and there's no better a moment to do it.

While Cass is busy, she hears Violet power up the blaster. Seconds later there's a volley of precision shots, any suggestion of the speed or unstable position barely having an impact as they hit even the most improbable targets!

The green flames dance around her and the princess and the mechanical horse, giving an absolutely gorgeous ambience to the trio - Piranha almost wonders if this track has automatic cameras, like on rollercoasters; she'd love a picture! "Sparkheart, charge at 'em! No obstacles will stand in the way of our team!" She holds onto the horse and prepares to slice whatever else comes their way.

Princess DiamondPrincess Diamond swoons as Pira—despite half of Sparkyheart’s hull being blown off—responds to the setback with enthusiasm and leadership!

As the horse spins out, Pira fires, striking all three remaining Daughterbots! A fairy escapes through a shattering windshield!

At Pira’s command, Sparkyheart rams through the two remaining Daughterbots, freeing those fairies as well!

As our heroines approach the portal, every Double-Dasher has a rescued fairy seated in the cup holder. Princess Diamond finds a fairy on each of her puffy shoulders.

"Let us adopt them," she casually suggests in her usual regal deadpan.

With the Motherborg’s shield up, it seems there is nothing stopping our heroines from entering the portal.

Vivian"Should we stop and deal with your Mother?" It’s unclear whether Vivian is directing her question at Luna or the fairy in the cupholder, but the yet-to-be-introduced fairy replies:

"Please keep driving, Your Highness. Mother will be saved when the Foxtailed Lady is saved."

STOP OR I’LL SHOOT

The Motherborg raises her shield! She unleashes a white beam—which strikes Princess Diamond!

Princess Diamond"Ooo..!"

"EEEEEE!" the shoulder-fairies scream in unison. They release bursts of protective fairy dust, but despite their efforts, the color is literally draining from the princess!

As a rainbow beam shoots from her graying hair, the princess gripes, "Oh, grand balls. Not again."

Whether our heroines speed up, slam the brakes, stay the course or veer—it’s too late! The rainbow beam strikes the portal!!

As your Double-Dashers (and Sparkyheart) are forced to ride into space, the lift-off is rough! Both driver and gunner will need to keep the kart/horse on the road as you ascend through A RAINBOW METEOR SHOWER!!!

OOC:

DRIVERS: choose to 🕹️STUNT-drive or ㊙️SMASH through the meteors at ramming speed!
(⚠️DODGE is not an option since you gotta focus on staying on the road.)

GUNNERS: choose to ☢️BLAST the meteors outta your way or ㊙️BLOCK them with your protective shield!
(⚠️-ITEM is not an option since, as any space commander knows, it’s dangerous to activate a green-energy-converter while driving through atmospheric heat in an open-roof vehicle.)

Note: Stunt/Smash/Blast are DC4, a.k.a. more likely to succeed.

Block is DC5, but if you roll 🛡️SAFE, you’re safe even if the driver rolls a 💢MISS.

The barbarian begins to glow brightly before a bolt of lightning strikes her out of nowhere! Once the blinding flash clears, Thundra's armor has transformed into that of a valiant valkyrie, with large feathery wings spreading out from behind her back! Electricity crackles in the air around her as she laughs with glee.

"Onward! Valhalla awaits!"

"Cool weapon, cyborg lady, where'd you get it? I want one too!" Pira eyes the Chainsaw-Naginata wistfully, then points forward. "Fear not, Your Highness, I got this!" Her claws screech as she crosses them before her protectively; truly, how she plans to block a giant chainsaw is logistically questionable, but she has confidence - and that's what matters!

...or maybe not. Sometimes there must still be some logic behind even the most impossible physics!

Considering this might knock us out, can I do anything else? Can I use my items somehow? Although I don't have special attacks anymore, so they are somewhat useless. :'D

Cass frowned, trying to decide what she would class a naginata as. Maybe a glaive? That seemed the most accurate option, but she'd heard people say spear before. Well, whatever option it decided to be, the thought process kept her mind focussed. The real trouble came in the form of finding something to facilitate the jump.

She scanned the rainbows, eyes darting for something. The seconds ticked down until the last possible moment, when a bump in the trail presented itself. Cass pushed the kart to maximum, launching it a small distance into the air. It didn't clear the weapon completely though, and the back wheels were caught!

Sparkyheart is barely holding together! But at the Princess’ command, her steed bucks, giving Pira and opportunity to deliver a powerful Piranha Swing! The attack shatters the armor over the Super Fairygodmother’s thigh, exposing smooth flesh wrapped in the lush greenery of Neo Eden!

Thundra and Valerie work together to keep their kart in one piece. They’re halfway across the Rainbow Road now, speeding toward the portal!

Cass is safe from the attack… but unfortunately, the broken road catches her kart’s wheel, causing it to cartwheel into the void!

Luna’s kart has two flat tires and the ice magic barely makes a dent in the Motherborg’s armor… but Luna’s rimes spread, filling the cracks from her friends’ attacks…

"You did it!" a fairy exclaims. Another declares, "Mother’s free!"

Absinthe’s armor shatters in a glorious display of shiny shards and twinkling flakes! The giant fairy soars into the trajectory of Cass’ cartwheeling kart, catching it in her immense arms. She flies it back onto the road, lowering it gently while the three of her daughters sprinkle pixel dust on their mother, gradually shrinking her to a mere ten feet tall.

She seats herself on a piece of frozen armor as she addresses Luna.

"Well done, Daughter. I knew you and your friends would rescue me. There is one mission left, should you choose to accept it… but… you are hurt.

"Might I recommend you take advantage of this strange place between worlds, and heal yourselves?"

This is the last place in the game where you can use Luna’s Dewdrop Fairy Spring, and with all the fairies about, no roll is needed. The move will happen automatically via CUT SCENE. Everyone will have the normal HP refill plus two bonus effects:

Cass notices the lack of chewing gum in her mouth though, and because Princess Diamond is rather shy about public nudity (or so she proposes), Her Highness alters a Las of Nature by royal decree:

Ye steam from thy bath leaveths attending ladies modestly silhouetted from ye neck down.

The dewdrop fairy spring can be used for RP downtime. You can ask Missy Girl what awaits, if you wish. Or if you just want to confirm you increased your stats, that works too!

Kurumi, the Mini-K’s and Pinky will be included in the ending, after you rescue Vera from the leader of the machines, a notorious villain whose name is universally despised, whose perpetrations are without mercy or reason, whose relentless wrath must be stopped!

Pira is briefly distracted by the appearance of a hot fairy lady in her vicinity, although the offer of a relaxing steamy bath quickly gets her attention back. "Oh yeah, it's the beach episode!" By magic of a character selection costume change, she immediately swaps out her usual attire for a barely decent swimsuit and then waves at their allies: "Come on, space girls, fairy gals, you should join in too! Make it a party! And you too, Sparkheart - it's the magic water, bet it's gonna repair you!"

Princess DiamondRealizing that dewdrop-fairy magic allows one to be magically clad in swimwear, Princess Diamond uses her cartoonish ability to quickly draw a one-piece on her silhouetted self. She then cancels her modesty spell, realizing she was being overly sensitive.

…plus she needs clear sight into the water in case the carnivorous Dewdrop Eels attack.

"I think Sparkyheart likes you," the Princess says to Pira. "The ideal bodyguard is liked by the trusty steed." She is blushing as she faces the fighter in her scandalous DLC costume. "My this dewdrop is quite warm. I hope we’re not being slow-boiled like they did to the frog prince."

Cass, despite her better nature, is flustered by the turn of events. She's not used to being anything less than overdressed in multiple layers, and more than that there are plenty of people here who she'd consider attractive. Well, not that appearances were the be all and end all of that side, but then by know she knew who they were as much as what they looked like.

She drew to the edge of the drop. She didn't move far enough to be out of the conversation, in case she missed anything, but enough that she hopefully wouldn't be on anyone's radar.

The bath is refreshing, and thanks to time-pausing fey magic, you enjoy an hour or so from your own perspectives while—outside of the dew drop—no time has passed at all.

And because you were able to rescue Absinthe before reaching the end of the Rainbow Road, you might just make it to Red Soil in time to prevent Vera’s assimilation…!

Before ending the magic and sending you off, Absinthe warns you of the enemy and what’s at stake:

"The enemy you are about to face is AUTOCORRECT! He started off as a decorated member of the Grammar Police Force, but in the year 1984—"

As far as you know, calendars stopped counting at 20XX (twenty exty-ex).

On the other side is a bleak vermilion world seemingly incapable of sustaining life. Fortunately, Cass’ reading confirms the air is breathable, the temperature is within the range of Humanly Survivable. There is hope for Vera.

You ride across what appears to be part rock, and part… bone? You are riding on the remains of a fossilized giant who must have been hundreds of feet tall. There’s a warped billboard sign embedded in the red soil advertising TJ’s Arcade, with a caption under the logo: "Hello My Name Is T.J."

You keep driving, crossing a narrow bridge to what is surely a collapsed ribcage.

Roaring flames from the pit do not deter you. For, there is a fox-tailed woman chained to the place where the giant’s heart belongs…

Pira is beyond intrigued by the ominous and grim atmosphere of the place, so reminiscent of her old villain days, so delightfully red and dangerous. She keeps pointing out views to everyone in the vicinity as they ride, and even attempts to pick up some sort of a volcanic rock as a souvenir.

When they draw closer, Piranha's attention snaps to the chained figure. "Fox lady!" She greets enthusiastically. There was never a doubt in Pira that Vera was still alive, because in her world the only way to perish would be through a tearjerking backstory cutscene; that's just how Feet of Rage worked. "Your rescue has arrived! And I bet someone has missed you quite a lot..." Her eyes flick mischievously towards Casanova, before the fighter directs Sparkyheart towards the chains: "Hold on, I'm gonna slice those off!"

The chains collapse noisily at Vera’s ankles. She staggers away from the oversized rib, practically face-planting as she clumsily draws her sidearm. But whoever trapped her is nowhere to be seen.

"The chains… they just sprung from the ground…" There is shame on her face. "Sorry, Cass."

Her eyes well as she faces the commander. "You were right about me being reckless—"

Cass never told Vera that. But before she can deny the accusation, or even process it, Vera holds up a hand.

"—it’s okay if you don’t remember saying it. Absinthe sent me a dream of a dozen other ways our last mission ended. One ending was especially painful." Losing Princess Vivian was painful, but from Vera’s tone, it seems that there was a worse fate for the Star Vixen team. One she’d rather not talk about. "And another—it was so beautiful that… the only painful part is that I’ve got that memory… but you…"

She lowers her hand cannon, almost as if the weight of it is too much for her.

"I shouldn’t’ve come here alone. I just didn’t wanna risk it—even if that Autocorrect guy killed me. What’s the point of living at all if everything starts over?"

Seeing Vera so emotional, no so vulnerable, was a new experience for Cass. Sure her vulpine amour was the more emotional of the two, but she didn't usually have such raw pain on the surface. The thought shocked the space commander so much that she didn't even panic for thinking of Vera as a vulpine amour.

Instead, after performing her habitual perimeter checks, her hand caught Vera's and gently lowered the gun before she brought her into what she hoped was a reassuring embrace. At this point she panicked, not really sure what was reassuring about the embrace or whether she needed to do something else, but she hoped it worked.

Vera is wordlessly responsive, her body warm and limp, her free hand clinging to Cass affectionately.

Vera lifts her head. Her cheeks are moist. Her eyes are glistening. Her lips part for a beat. "You haven’t forgotten…"

The vulpine amour means that the feelings between her and Cass were somehow not lost in the reset—or maybe they were always there, always mutual? But her statement is partially correct:

Cass just remembered an ‘ending.’ Not a happy ending so much as the one happy part of that ending…

And Cass isn’t the only one who witnessed the flashback in her mind’s eye.

A column of fire bursts from the pit below—licking at the ribcage—towering over our heroines! Vera steps out of the embrace, but her hand lingers on Cass’.

The dancing flames part to reveal a godlike colossus on a distant plateau.

Piranha sounds genuinely indignant at her friend's behalf. "And don't even think about harming the three Vs, or I'll come after you and correct your own code; with my claws!"

Vera holds up the command helm. It’s vermilion-red with an absinthe-green visor. Luna can feel the fey magic emanating from it.

There’s a collective gasp from the Star Vixen team, but nonetheless, they leap into their double-dashers and encourage you to do the same.

"Princess Diamond and Pira, Horse-Body, FORM!"

Sparkyheart becomes a much larger mechanical horse, complete with pink sparkly hooves, but no head—just a very wide hole with some kind of connector. Another connector takes the place of the saddle, as well as a dome for the princess and Pira to see.

"Princess Vivian and Luna, Gossamer Wings, FORM!"

The viridian dasher splits to form rocket wings, Luna in one, Vivian in the other!

"Valerie and Thundra, Shield Arm, FORM!"

A bronze feminine torso extends from the robo-Pegasus body, though she’s missing a right arm and a head. On her forearm is a shield that looks as much like a weapon as it is armor.

"Violet and Cass, form Cannon Arm, and I’ll form—"

She pauses, then glances at Diamond. "It is, isn't it? Well, I'm gonna kick his shiny metal derriere either way! Hold on, team, because we're going in!"

%he Pegatron shudders as its engine roars and the robot charges straight at Autocorrect; just before reaching the other robot, the pegasus bot jumps, makes a dramatic flip in the air and then drives its heel - a shiny, glittery, high heel - straight into the opponent!

In the, relative, privacy of the cockpit compartment she found herself in, with Vera in a proximity at risk of narrative shenanigans, she couldn't help grinning. Cass watches Vera try and get the gun working again, her fingers deftly moving over the controls, before she runs out of time and has to return her attention to the battle. With firing off the table, and a thigh hold maneuver in action, she knows her best option is to keep balance and maintain utility.

After all, a cannon arm that can't shoot is still an arm! Unfortunately, she misjudges the distances (not used to the size) and takes a whack in the process of stabilisng the stunt.

Pira’s attack to Autocorrect’s leg causes a boot-thruster to sputter—

Putt, putt, ppppppt…

—and before Autocorrect’s automatically-corrective slider can adjust thruster balance, Princess Diamond uses her cartoonish magic to plug the functioning thruster with an oversized cork.

The giant red robot somehow stays afloat for a second or so… then gravity does its thing. He falls silently, head bashing against the left arm of the giant skeleton on his way down. He plunges unceremoniously into the fiery pit.

The colossal skeleton’s left hand slowly opens, revealing a coin that would fit Pegatron like a sombrero…

(Luna is used to a creature being so immense compared to herself, but even then… a human is ten or twelve or so fairies tall. This giant—or what’s left of him—is ten or twelve or so Pegatrons tall. And how many humans tall is Pegatron? This is why fairies don’t do math.)

…the fingers fall limp. The coin follows the plunging robot into the inferno.

But glancing back, Luna can’t find any bright yellow letters—just a dusty red sky and billowing smoke. Vivian giggles at the fairy’s antics. "C’mon, Luna. Let’s stay in the vehicle while we figure a way outta here."

Violet believes she can use Pegatron’s head to communicate with Pinky. As she speaks of this, Valerie is keeping a sharp eye on the skeletal hand that dropped the coin. Its digits hang limp.

Vera checks the other hand. She opens her mouth to speak. No words come out, but Cass sees the kitsune pointing at the colossal skeleton’s right arm. The hand is missing! Princess Diamond orders her steed to gallop—Vivian flaps her wing!

WHOOSH!!

—a giant skeletal fist soars past Pegatron, missing by a yard, which may as well be an inch in a battle between a colossal hand and a giant winged kentauride fembot!

Emerging from the pit where Autocorrect fell is a colossal skull! It speaks to you.

"It is foolish of you to resist my benevolent hand. Now you leave me no choice, but to crush you."

The left hand detaches itself from the wrist-bone and opens wide as it rises from the scorched earth. The right fist that sailed past now hovers before you. It points a bony finger at Pegatron’s head.

"Hey, that's some Four-Headed Sage level nonsense!" Piranha complains at the floating skull as she remembers the incredibly annoying opponent from her homeland tournament; that one also constantly created extra limbs and was an absolute pain in unmentionable places to fight. "Cool trick and all, but pal, do you ever quit? What's even the endgame here, you gonna tickle us into surrender? Looking real intimidating over there, mister floating skull - and very kickable!"

She laughs mockingly at the giant floating hands, the cabin lights around her blinking as in response. It's a little hard to emote when one is being a torso of a giant robot, but she compensates by controlling the Pegatron's legs to do a little jig, just to highlight how insignificant she thinks the opponents are. Taunts have always been one of the greatest entertainment on the arena, and it's about time she indulges!

Something made Vera scared, and that made Cass irrationally angry. She both knew why, and didn't. The emotion wasn't something she wanted to deal with yet though so instead she ignored it and prepped the weapon to fire again. Hammering buttons, she loaded in another specialist round.

Cass really wanted to attack the skull. It made the most sense to her, in the context of everything, but some kind of otherworldly voice (over) told her not to. So, mouth a thin line, she prepped to fire at the less predictable hand.

As the giant skeletal hand thingy attacks, she's thoroughly confused for a few seconds but then her whimsical nature overrides any cognitive dissonance and THIS IS THE WAY THINGS ALWAYS HAVE BEEN takes over.

She sees Cass going at the hand and loads up fairy ice magic onto the round to give it the dirty trick, pebble-in-the-snowball! Pegatron twists in place to give extra oomf to the round like a wind up for the snowball pitch.

Not that they have any memory of it, but our heroines do what they’ve done thousands of times before: they start using those items they’d been holding onto because this is the one villain where running out of items is potentially deadly!

Pira’s taunt moves Masher Hand’s finger from the head to the horse-torso! And Cass’ net limit’s Jigglypalm’s movement. Luna adds a touch of fey frosting, and you start to see some cracks in the bony fingers. Thundra and Valerie exacerbate the damage with—

says the colossal hovering skull.

But the skull, like Pegatron’s head, cannot attack. He attacks with his hands.

Masher Hand rockets straight at the dome over her head. Princess Diamond yelps in shock as the bony fingers pokes between Pegatron’s wings, mashing rapidly at the slipperglass* with the likely goal of shattering the dome!

Pira saves the princess (yet again!) from harm while Cass and Thundra escape Jigglypalm’s crushing grip before it can inflict significant damage.

All of our heroines strike back! Jigglypalm’s pinky bone detaches and plunges into the fiery pit. The rest of the bones are cracked and its stance appears limp and cramped.

Masher Hand forms a tight fist!

The skull’s voice booms,
"What are you fighting against? Infinite lives? Infinite second chances? If you refuse my gift I’ll beat it into you!"

—but you all know better than to take your eyes off of the hands. Jigglypalm just needs a good hit, and there will only be one foe to deal with.

But before you can finish the busted hand, it grabs all of Pegatron! Masher Hand rockets toward all of you, knuckles first!

The shield arm is unscathed by the colossal hands’ most devastating attack! Adding insult to lack-of-injury, Thundra smashes the grabby hand to bits! Phalanges flip-flop about, some clattering against the fossilized ribcage before bouncing into the inferno.

"Cool backstory, dude; still attempted murder right now!" Pira yells from inside the cabin at the skull, before glancing over at Diamond: "...Nice vocals, Your Majesty. You should come to Amore's karaoke party someday! She keeps bothering me about it alongside all the sleepover invitations, but i ain't no singer, unless one counts that one time I backed up Panda Girl's villain song... That was fun."

The fighter hums and focuses back on the battle, examining the hand still trying to tear at the robot and thinking of how to deal with it. most effectively This whole song and dance and rabbit girls from a hat thing is getting a little too chaotic even for her, and she's certainly not getting into a dance-off with a flying hand if she has anything to say about it! Therefore, it's smashing time!

Considering that you said we may dodge or block, I'm taking it as we don't have and am forfeiting my defense in favor of going full offense instead. Using item for Harm.

The Princess’ beautiful trilling is replaced by a shrill scream as Masher Hand finally shatters the dome! It draws back to crush Princess Diamond under its thumb, but Pira punts the hand away!

It changes course, jetting toward the cannon arm with such force, it’s clearly aiming for penetration!

It's finale time. At the end of the game, during the final boss, there's always a big finale attack. At this point, with glass and torn feathers falling, songs playing and people dancing, this is that moment. Cass cycles the cannon and prepares herself, she has the exact finale idea in mind. In all those samurai style games someone slides past the other in a final attack and have a one liner before the victor is revealed? Well, why not now?

She takes aim at the approaching hand. If she shoots well, it'll be forced aside, fly straight past. If not, well let's just say it won't look anywhere near as cool.

One hand on the controls and the other giving Vera's a reassuring squeeze, Cass times her shot... and maybe waits a moment too long?

The shot is fired! It’s a hit. It’s not enough to break the hand. But… her shot forced the hand off course. And it’s only after the two slide past each other, Cass sees the real target:

The Reset Button.

The hand soars just to one side of it, crashing through a glass case that says "In case of emergency, break…"

And inside the case, there’s also a Reset Button.

Pegatron is weak. Masher Hand could fire a shot, except the head and shield arm are hardly scratched. It’s impossible to shut all of the heroines down.

Masher Hand makes the only move it can without the possibility of being stopped: it presses the button in the case.

You feel… different? Not that anything happens to your bodies or your memories. Gravity feels stronger, you probably can’t jump ten feet off the ground without a running start. Even with a running start, maybe five feet?

The smoke around you clears. There is fire on all sides, and several columns with screens and little sticks. Most are on fire except for five machines. They have signs on top:
• Barbaric Commando
• Cel Damsel
• Feet of Rage
• Star Vixen
• Super Fairy Godmothers

The screens on these machines are off right now. And standing between you and the machines is a dumpy looking guy, balding, grayish brown goatee, pot belly, and over his shirt pocket, a sticker:

"Hello My Name Is T.J."

The area where you all stand is somehow safe from the flames.

"I know you don’t want to start over. It’s me who wanted to go back… but I can’t reset my world at any point before this moment that sealed my fate.

"I was jealous of you all. So many times, you all died, and it didn’t matter. You all got to start over. I saw it all on those machines."

The machines turn on. All five display the scene of nine heroines and a dumpy arcade owner. On the Cel Damsel machine, it looks cartoonish. You can also see (only on the machines) a portal hidden in the flames. It’s located by the door to the arcade.

You know it’s your way out.

"I won’t reset your worlds. I know it’s kinda wrong, and… I know it’s kinda weird—you don’t know me, I know you, kinda—like, as a fan?" He makes an awkward face. "Some things are probably better left unexplained."

Cass gives TJ a long look. She isn't impressed. There are probably a lot of words that can be used to describe the man and his actions, but of course she can't say them. Not that it matters, as fa as she's concerned silence is a far more effective tool in the situation. Finally, she shakes her head and takes Vera's hand.

Together, they head toward the portal near the door.

Vera looks ready to speak at the man, but Cass’ silence is the perfect response as far as she’s concerned. The vixen doesn’t even grace TJ’s words with an eye-roll.

Once aboard Pinky—after a warm welcome from Kurumi and the Mini-K’s, and able to get a moment alone with Cass—Vera says to her, "I don’t know how that dumpy dad-joke of a man obtained godlike power over our galaxy. But one thing’s for sure now. Whatever our future is from here, it’s for real, so… while leading Star Vixen was kinda cool…" She trails off for a moment. For all the flirting she’d done in the past, this is different. It lacks the overconfidence, that playfulness that can easily pass off as ‘just trying to get a rise.’

Maybe Vera is self-aware enough to realize the pause, albeit a fraction of a second, has the potential to be eternal. Whatever she has to say, it needs to come out now.

"—I want to be your co-pilot!"

It’s the safe way to put it. Her eyes fall to Cass’ hand holding hers.

"Okay, I mean—you mean so much more than that to me. But if we’re on the same ship, Star Command can’t send us on separate missions. So ummm, permission to board, Captain?"

Luna has a momentary moment of self-doubt, as she contemplates this TJ's claims, at least before her fairy mind simply moves on. "Oh, a portal, I love portals. They take you to do many different places often places you never would have dreamed of going!" She follows the others to go through it, with no cares in her mind.

When Luna steps through, she is welcomed by Morumi, Larumi and Kurlumi. As the three Mini-K’s giddily greet their fellow fairy, she notices on Pinky’s screen (one of many, actually—but only one in particular catches the fairy’s eye) a map of the warp pipes.

It’s not a complete map. (A complete map? Impossible!) But Luna has an innate comprehension. It’s like reading a Chaos Theory diagram, but knowing at a glance how to get from the Butterfly Fart to the Apocalypse, and at which node you instead veer safely to Utopia.

Will Luna remain aboard Pinky for a while? Will she flit off into a pipe to the destiny of her choice? Or does she prefer to warp somewhere off the map, not knowing what kind of world may be out there.

The choice is hers…!

Thundra gives TJ a long hard look, then she laughs heartily and claps him on the shoulder. "No hard feelings! You only did what you thought you had to do. We are all just trying our best to do the same. Perhaps we will meet again."

She nods to the other girls before striding through the portal.

TJ just silently accepts Thundra’s forgiveness, waving as she steps through the portal.

Somewhere between worlds, a winged woman appears. Only Thundra and Valerie can see her.

"Hey! Did you two ladies also just complete a mission?"

"I had to escort a soul just now, and the guy kept telling me about his wife and kid. I really need a break. But… wow! You two look like you need a vacation more than I do!"

She hands Thundra a brochure and vanishes in a beam of light.

Valerie turns to Thundra. "We were practically unscathed. Do we really appear in dire need of recreation and relaxation?" she asks incredulously.

As the others depart from the fire-filled limbo, Pira deliberately lingers. She waves her goodbyes after the other girls, even - scandalously! - kisses Princess Diamond's hand before the latter passes through her portal. Only when she is left completely alone does the fighter finally look at T.J.

"You know, I always thought that there was something wonky about my world," Pira tilts her head and gestures vaguely towards the Feet of Rage machine. "But I guess the rules of the game stopped me from realizing what exactly - to prevent the possibility of an existential crisis before it occurs, I bet! But it's hard to maintain belief in your own existence with all the talk about resetting and reviving and actually seeing a reality you're a subset of. Even if this is more of a... I dunno, a ghost dimension?"

She stretches her arms over he head, fingers flexing, and grins at T. J. "It is kinda weird to know that my world is an arcade game; bet other gals have never even seen an arcade machine in their magical forests and frozen wastelands. Well, maybe Casanova have? Maybe also that dancing girl Kurumi, her world sounded very cyberpunk. Anyway, lucky me that i don't care about stuff like meaning of life and what-not, otherwise I'd be freaking out right now~"

Piranha drops her hand, her expression briefly growing serious. "I get you doing all this, by the by. Your story, from what I've glanced from it, majorly sucks; sorry about your family, too." She frowns. "If anything, you probably chose the safest way to deal. As opposed to, I don't know, trying to feed a random scientist to a bunch of piranhas? So, like, don't sweat it too much. It all ended fine, water under the bridge and all."

Pira looks at the portal again. "Guess I gotta go back now! Hey, do you think Jin will handle knowing that we're in an arcade well? There is nothing more villainous than teaching the main character to break the forth wall, and I haven't caused any mischief in a while." She giggles in delight."Maybe then he'll be able to get the tournament moved somewhere more luxurious. Oh yes, the next battle is gonna be on a private tropical island! Or even a crossover with the other games!"

The fighter steps forward and slaps T.J.'s shoulder reassuringly. "Keep rocking, dude, and good luck with whatever awaits you!" She twirls on her heels and confidently heads back to the portal, whistling happily to herself.

Jin Kakutouka does not, in fact, handle the wall-breaking information well. His girlfriend does though, and together with Amora Pira schemes her way to enlightening the entire population of Feet of Rage, completely destroying the forth wall in favor of hosting absolutely rad parties with the entire crew. Turns out the Panda King can mix a mean screwdriver cocktail and the entirety of Shadowroo are great at karaoke - especially now that they have a bunch of robots to provide the disco lights. And the best thing? This doesn't interfere with the tournament in the slightest!

And if in a few weeks the talks about a crossover start to circulate in the NumBox headquarters, then surely it has nothing to do with a certain game-hopping fish...
