The central console of your ship comes to life with a crackle! A second later, and the blue hologram of a gruff-looking Mon Calamari flitters in and out of view. Well-informed rebels will know that the hoarse voice now crackling over the comms belongs to one of the top brass.
https://i.imgur.com/A1bA3XU.jpeg"Come in, Meridian Astra! Meridian Astra…" the voice and image distort as the message struggles to cross the vast expanse of the known galaxy.

"…igh Command. Bad news, I’m afraid. Fant…ic work on Agoliba-Ena, but don’t come home j…t yet!

We’ve just intercepted an Imperial distress sign..l! The Meridian Astra is the closest ship to the coordinates!"

The heavy jowls of the Mon Calamari are at odds with the tinny sound now coming through the busted comm system of the Meridian Astra.

"… imperative that you get there before the Empire! Capture Ado Thorsh and deliver her to Alliance Hi… Command! For the Rebellion!"

The blue hologram cuts suddenly, leaving the five rebels looking at each other across the central console. A moment later and an encrypted communication is sent through to the ship, detailing the location and the target of this little venture!

AC-D3 is gives a low whistle as the screen diplays the Imperial scientist as he wobbles back and forth on his stubby legs.

"A top secret Imperial science facility, eh? That's going to be as easy as brushing a Sarlacc's teeth. We got any information on that system?"

He extends his manipulator arm to jack in and interface with the ship's computer, speaking directly to it in their native binary rather than using clumsy human buttons.

Nobody can tell (because no one has seen a jawa's face) but Knibbec Knasses looks a little scared! So, as usual, they speak their emotions.

"Lady looks scary." There, that should be clear enough. Wait...Dathor...Ado Thorsh... A thought is bubbling below the surface of their brain. Knib scratches their head through their robe. "Ah! Dathor! That's where my parents were working when they disappeared!" Knib smacks a fist into the palm of their other hand. "Finally I can get some answers. Their boss was Plob Diddlyobb, and I believe he was the one who caused their disappearance."
Dec 29, 2024 2:07 pm
C4PQ’s photoreceptors glowed faintly as he adjusted his posture, bringing his hands delicately to the console like a human would do. His polished red plating reflected the flickering blue lights of the central display as he peered at the encrypted communication, his servos humming faintly.

"Well, while our dear Gonk droid goes on manhandling the ship’s systems, I shall endeavor to try to gather the necessary intelligence on coworkers, research projects and associates of… what was the name? Ah, yes—Ado Thorsh." He delicately keyed a sequence into the console, his servomotors precise and deliberate, his voice taking on an air of professional detachment.

The hooded figure sat in the rear quarters of the Meridian Astra, as was his custom between hyperspace jumps, meditating on the distant threads of the Ashla as he could sense them. For these were still dark times, the age of the Legion, which obscured much of his inner sight. When the transmission came from Alliance High Command, he looked up as if by instinct even though he did not physically hear it, and stood up to make his way to the cockpit of their Karellian hybrid-fighter. Tall for a Lacertian, and oddly clad in battleworn plastoid durasteel underneath his robes, he walked with none of the menace of his species, but with a quiet step and even more faraway nictitating eyes.

"Thorsh? A familiar name. The circle is now complete." Hss'kas announced cryptically to the other four. "One must take in order to give."
Dec 29, 2024 4:29 pm
Plok the Anuran watches the transmission with his eerie, unblinking eyes. He listens to their Mon Cal contact with his pointed ears, and turns to the others as they voice their varying opinions on the mission they have just been given. He knows AC-D3 and C4PQ are adept at using the Astra's systems; they will find out what reinforcements the Imperials are sending, and from where. They will plot the course and make ready the ship.

Knibbic and the Jedi seem to have a more personal involvement. The Anuran's rubbery lips move as he speaks, almost like they are not in time with his words. "Neb plup emm ah term dib. Blub da."*

Plok does not speak Galactic Basic Standard, but everyone can understand him regardless.

AC-D3 jacks into the main computer and searches through the ship’s galactic archive. Albeit limited, the archive furnished rebels (and more) with a basic, working knowledge of the galaxy.

AC-D3 chirps and trills as it communicates with the ship, scans the data, and then produces something the rest of the crew can read. A small clutch of planets are beamed blue right where the Mon Calamari had stood a moment earlier:
https://i.imgur.com/ZoJRcmZ.jpegThe computer whines, as it zooms in on the coordinates of the distress signal. It zooms in again, rotates the map and zooms in some more. The computer lets out a frustrated trill as it restarts the process; spinning and zooming and searching until it’s quite sure…

No Moon Found
The point of origin of the distress beacon is not coming from one of the celestial bodies mentioned in the archives aboard the Meridian Astra.

C4PQ taps away at their console, delicately searching up any information on the crew’s target - Ado Thorsh. Ado is a Chiss, like the much-feared Admiral Thrawn. While Thrawn had climbed the ladder of the Empire militarily, Ado Thorsh had put her efforts into the scientific pursuits of Emperor Palpatine.

Karrak
Much of the data was redacted; by the Empire or the Rebellion, C4PQ couldn’t tell. One word comes up again and again in the data that the protocol droid could scan: Karrak.
[ +- ] Karrak
Dec 30, 2024 2:35 pm
The jedi appeared competent with Rodian and Jawa (though not as much as C4PQ presumably), and replied Plok with ease.

"Hard to see where Thorsh was, but now clear. The Force gives, and karrak takes." Hss'kas intoned through his visions. "Where is the moon?"
Dec 30, 2024 7:07 pm
C4PQ shares his findings with the rest of the crew and begins preparing the ship for the hyperspace jump.
Dec 31, 2024 1:34 am
"Mim plub dop poot duka gookla? Deeb kuka, derb? Plar dar Dathor do blum,"* Plok says after he reads the wall of text that 4PQ brought up. He then moves to unholster his blaster and check it over, a cool habit he is trying to develop... and finds it not there. There last few missions have been difficult ones. His pistol had fallen from his holster when he'd made the jump to to the repulsorsled on Yfindan. Or he left it in the canteen on Baarpa Dem. One or the other.
* Do we have details on where the station was located? Was it orbiting one of the three planets, or the star? Also, I seem to be missing my blaster pistol. We might want to re-arm on the way to Dathor.
Dec 31, 2024 3:19 am
"An inelegant weapon for a less civilised age." Hss'kas observed with reference to Plok's mention of obtaining blasters. The jedi appeared to carry no weapons himself, save for a simple utility knife by his belt.

"Seek what we must find at the space station. " Perhaps the pirates knew where to locate the moon, and they would expect weapons aplenty at such a hive of scum and villainy.

The central computer twits and boops as the crew plot out how to go about approaching the Imperial coordinates: the moon that didn’t exist on the star map. Alliance High Command’s coordinates show that the moon you intend to infiltrate is quite apart from any of the three planets in the system. The computer trills again as it warns you that you’ll be entering what should be empty space.

At the mention of pirates, the computer throws up known bounties of wanted pirates, suspected of operating in the Dathor System. Stills of five individuals, seemingly captured on surveillance devices, are thrown up on the hologram, as C4PQ starts to punch in the coordinates and the ship shudders in preparation. https://i.imgur.com/FQ3OZNu.jpeghttps://i.imgur.com/jag5MLh.jpeghttps://i.imgur.com/u398wPw.jpeghttps://i.imgur.com/oDBNE0A.jpeghttps://i.imgur.com/jFGNhGU.jpeg

"Look, ladies - there's probably a whole Imperial Legion on its way to Dathor right now. If we don't beat them to the punch, we're cooked. PQ, have you got those coordinates from the navicomputer yet?"

After double-checking the calculations himself, the box on legs saunters up to the rest of them.

"So Jedi, you sure got a big pair of cojones! Going into a top secret Imperial nest with just a utility knife? Now I can see why you all got wiped out by the Empire! But you're right, we're going to have to improvise some firepower on the go."

"You know, all those nice pirates in them pictures seem to have lots of guns. I wonder if they'd be interested in ransacking an Imperial secret base? All we need is that blue lady, they can have the rest. Plus, it gives us a layer of - what is it that the brass is always talking about? 'Plausible deniability.' Hss'kas was used to AC-D3's feistiness, and took no offense at his straight talk. "The Force is with us. It is all we need. Strike us down, and we shall return more powerful than you can imagine."

In fact, the Trandoshan saw the wisdom in recruiting more help. It wouldn't work coming from a Jedi, lest they felt mind-tricked into it. But the others could. Hss'kas did consider another option to help them locate the secret Imperial base.

"The Force surrounds us and penetrates us. It is created by all living things. If the secret facility is producing karrak, it also means they would be testing it. The base would be a place devoid of the Force, a null space." Hss'kas sat back down and closed his eyes and reached into the vastness of space towards the Dathor system.
OOC:
Would that be possible? To get a general sense of the right direction or bearing? Narrow down which planet it might be orbiting?

Knibbec looks at these others with talks of joining pirates and acquiring weapons. And whatever mumbo-jumbo the lizard man was constantly spewing. "Ikee Akriwi Tiwih Kuliwad. Da Juwi 'Huist'? Huat Akriwi Kuliwad. Uta Juwi Uiuokka Yuyu? Ikee'd hatiwi Yua Uiuokka Yua Juwi Ut. Huist misso'on Uta."

I think these pirates are the bad guys. Do you see this word 'bounty'? That means they are bad. Hey, none of you have bounties right? I'd hate to have to turn you in. After this mission of course.

As C4PQ punches in the coordinates, the ship starts to shudder and locks in on its target at the far side of the jump. The hyperdrive of the Meridian Astra begins to come alive, and the ship shakes ever so slightly.

As the same moment, Hss’kas is tapping into the Force, in the hopes of gaining some insights into what was happening upon this strange Imperial moon. Casting a bemused eye over the whole spectacle is Plok, who thinks to pull out his own piece of hardware as he looks over the faces of the five bounties projected before him.

A few taps on the small device, and Plok has accessed data furnished to him by Ziro the Hutt and the criminal enterprise sprawling across Coruscant.
https://i.imgur.com/wMFf7N3.jpegAs the ship begins to warble and set off, the bounty hunter scrolls through known contacts and wanted holo-posters. One of the pirates in particular matches some data on the Hutt device. The human, seemingly known as Redd, has crossed the Hutts and is a wanted man.

Light ceases rushing by at breakneck speed, and the Meridian Astra slows before sitting still in Dathor space!

C4PQ’s delicate touch has seemingly saved the crew from being thrown into the midst of one of Dathor’s radioactive storms. Before you, only a short ways away, lays the dark and desolate rock that Hss’kas warns doesn’t belong. You had reached the coordinates given to you by Alliance High Command. AC-D3 was right. The Imperials were on their way. Would you try your luck, and spend your time, with the pirates? Or would you creep closer to the moon, and so search for Ado Thorsh yourself?

"Alrighty let's see what we're working with here!" AC-D3 exclaims as they come out of hyperspace. He begins to direct the ship's sensors at the moon thing that has the Jedi worried. "What about that null space you were talking about, space wizard? If we land on that rock, all you going to have access to your force?

He figured the answers to these questions would inform their decision on whether to involve the pirates.
OOC:
Not sure what our ship's sensors can do, but I'll check it on all spectrums - life signs, power sources, defensive capabilities, docked or landed ships, any "it's a trap!" like things 😁
AC-D3 takes the Jedi's measure while he awaits his answer. Despite the apostrophe in his name, AC-D3 had to grudgingly admit he had earned his respect. In fact, he felt a unique kinship with him. Like him, the Jedi channeled power. In fact, he might be the only organic that understood what that felt like. But, instead of coming from inside him, like AC-D3's fusion reactor, he claimed it was "all around him," usually with this dopey, serene look on his face. Well, sensors told otherwise, but he had seen his Jedi power first hand, not to mention that deadly, violet lightsaber he had hidden away. This guy was their big gun, and everyone knew it.

"Difficult to see, the future is always in motion." Hss'kas continued to face towards the moon, even though he sat inside their ship with no line of sight to it, his eyes far away. "But I do not sense this nullifying karrak, I should be good to proceed there. Let us make haste." Without clearly anticipating when the Imperials will arrive, time was still on their side, until it wasn't.

Knibbec puts his head in his hands. What are these people even talking about?! "Nshtabaa ubuntuu?"
At least space is pretty?
Jan 2, 2025 10:08 pm
Plok, for his part, wasn't over the apostrophe yet. He also wasn't fond of double negatives, and That's no moon that does not belong here strayed fully into level two brow knit territory for the Rodian. Of course, it was hard to tell when his bumpy green brow was knitting, but he knew and that's what mattered.

On the journey Plok had told everyone about the Hutt angle with the pirate, and the preposterously on-the-nose name of the red-headed human in the gang. Now seated at the ship's weapon station, the little alien asks, "Dar abh ti gloda bu tooda mef te zamtam tidi?"*

* So are we going to search for the pirates first?
Jan 2, 2025 10:58 pm
"Oh dear. Plok, I do believe the sensors will provide us with more pertinent information before we make a decision on which path to take. AC-D3 is already diligently working on it. Now, do you suppose those dreadful pirates are aware of the base? Perhaps we could... oh my... sell them information and use them as a distraction as we catch Ado Thorsh! Although, I must say, I’m ever so prepared for diplomatic measures... However, I cannot shake the fear that they might double-cross us and hand us over to the Empire! Such treachery is always a possibility!"
Jan 3, 2025 1:48 am
AC-D3 appreciates PQ's call for patience. These sensor readings were taking a long time

"Look, this is not the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy."

"The pirates seem like a good option if their defenses are a match for Hss'kss' utility knife."

"But, maybe Ado Thorsh is just sitting there all alone, writing her diary 'Woe be told, I have committed so many crimes against the galaxy, if only some brave team of rebels would swoop in her and make me pay for my crimes, I would be ever so grateful.' No need to get the pirates involves and make things complicated! Let's give it another minute, at least."

He clanged his manipulator arm against the sensor console to hurry it up (hey, it works sometimes).

The Meridian Astra's central console lets out a put-upon trill, as it works hard to bring all the data to the crew's attention in as quick a time as it's dinged up, old hardware would allow!

CP-4Q and AC-D3 turn the attention of the ship's scanners and ocular instruments to the dark-blue moon below. The first thing to throw up a warning on the holo-map are the large chunks of blasted moon rock that are orbiting your destination even now. Pieces great and small are floating around and away from the moon in all directions, troubled little by the moon's weak atmosphere.

A little fiddling with some dials, and the scanner is investigating a large, still-smoldering crater on the surface of the Imperial moon. Zooming out and scanning more of the surface, the ship's scanners begin to come across dreaded Imperial architecture. Imperial shield towers, and many of them, pepper the moon. Scanning one, two, three... a dozen of them, and you're sure that they are all destroyed.

More scanning and searching the surface of the moon, and your thoughts turn to the base itself. The computer picks up some signatures a ways away from the blasted crater, and investigates.
https://i.imgur.com/lzgqKmN.jpegAs if the Emperor himself was sticking his tongue out at the rebellion, you see it! More twisted metal and floating debris surround the entrance to the Imperial facility. The Meridian Astra strains its scanning equipment to see that the static shield, the entrance to the base and what keeps its atmosphere livable, flickers on and off every few seconds. The communication paraphernalia and life support systems peppered about the base itself look in equally bad shape.

The whole base looks to have been through a rough go of it. And there, in the hanger, the Meridian Astra pings another ship. A busted up old patrol vessel out of Naboo.

"You wanna wipe me, laser-brain? You come on over and give it your best shot! The only thing around here getting wiped is this floor - with your kriffing ass!"

The results of the sweeps start coming over the screen but AC-D3 isn't paying attention. He snaps his utility knife out of its holder and wields it, menacingly, dancing from foot to foot as if ready for a boxing match.

"Scum and villainy..." Hss'kas muttered in the faraway voice that was now familar to the others, still semi-lost in his trance to see what else he could perceive of this unnatural situation. It was hard to tell whether he was referring to the clouded vision of what appeared to be a derelict imperial base, or a reference to the possible raiders in the pirate ship, or simply the unwashed altercation developing between AC-D3 and Plok, with wide-eyed Knibbec looking on underneath his hood.

Instinctively, with eyes still closed, Hss'kas hand extended its digits and made a waving motion, as if to disarm the puny knife that AC-D3 brandished "... keep the balance..." so that both parties were equally unequipped.

Plok is staring blankly at PQ (well, more like at two slightly divergent places on either side of PQ) when AC-D3 gets huffy and squares up, only taking about fourteen small, whirring, mincing steps to accomplish that.

He'd fought killer Gonk droids before, the bounty hunter had, and he knew all he really needed to do was tip the thing over, or climb up on top. "The pirates are what?!" AC-D3 exclaims from his upside-down vantage point. He had the Rodian just where he wanted him (or so he told himself) but he decided to call it off, on account of the mission.

"PQ, get me back up! Stop fooling around, Plok. We got a job to do!"

Once PQ helps get him back on his feet (a not-inconsiderable feat), he waddles to the scopes to see what the heck is going on with the Imperial base.

Jan 6, 2025 9:43 am
C4PQ’s photoreceptors flickered with a mixture of frustration and disbelief as he turned to witness the chaos unfolding.

"Good heavens! Wiping? And now… brawling? I cannot imagine a more undignified spectacle."

He hurried to AC-D3’s side, his servos whirring as he bent down with a barely audible sigh of exasperation. "Really, AC-D3, must you always resort to theatrics? I understand your, er, vigorous stance on the sanctity of our circuits, but such behavior is hardly conducive to a productive working relationship with organic counterparts. Might I remind you that diplomacy is one of my primary functions, and this situation is decidedly undiplomatic!"

C4PQ braced himself and began the laborious process of righting AC-D3. "Plok, you might want to consider phrasing your inquiries with more... care. Suggesting a droid be wiped is akin to suggesting you have your memories erased and replaced. Can you even imagine the trauma? Oh, do hold still, AC-D3; you’re heavier than you look."

"Now, then," C4PQ said, brushing nonexistent dust from his chassis with a dignified air, "I suggest we focus on the matter at hand—the pirates. Oh dear, it seems the pirates have already reached the base. I suggest we land near the Outlaw Toledo and investigate the area. This could be dangerous. Who is piloting?"

All eyes fall on the delicate C4PQ when talk turns to who would pilot the Meridian Astra down to the hanger bay. With hands more suited to punching in a flight path than righting an overturned Gonk Droid, C4PQ is pressed into service and sets the ship off in the direction of the flickering hanger.

In the time it takes C4PQ to weave between the bits of moon rock floating in low orbit, the rest of the crew watch as the hanger bay shield flickers on and off at least half a dozen times. The atmosphere, in the hanger at least, would prove to be difficult to deal with.

The ship is brought in smooth, and C4PQ sets it down just beside the Outlaw Toledo. The ship is sleek and gold if not a little beat up. A sword is emblazoned across the side of the ship - the mark of the Sword Smugglers?

The hanger itself is huge. As the Astra extends its landing pads, you get a good look at the place. Besides the flickering static shield sucking the atmosphere out of the place at regular intervals, the hanger is a ruined mess of supply crates and worker droids.

Crushed bodies of droids misfortunate enough to have been put to work by the Empire lay all about the form of a tipped over Imperial T-4a. Ado Thorsh’s distress beacon made more sense, given that it would take a group effort to get the thing righted again.

Knibbec can't help but laugh at the shenanigans between rodian and droid. He points a clawed hand and tee-hees. "I'm not old enough for my piloting license yet," Knib says matter-of-factly. "But we gotta do it quick. 'Crashing spaceships is no way to go through life', as my dad always said." Finally the tall droid is resigned to be a pilot and brings them into the hangar.

"Well I'll be a bantha's uncle, this place is screeeeewwwwed. Do you think it's safe? Looks like an adventure at least! Let's go!"

Did the imperial shuttle land badly, or more likely, was it unable to take off despite the efforts of the worker droids? So far they had only witnessed destruction.

"Let us get to the bottom of this mystery." The Trandoshan headed towards the shuttle first.

One might expect AC-D3 to sulk a bit after losing a round with the Rodian in such a humiliating manner, but he's got a thick skin - literally. PQ gives him a mouthful, but that's just what a Protocol Droid does. He admits it's not the time and place to settle that acore - but that Rodian is on his shit list!

AC-D3 strides out into the cargo bay, enjoying the breeze of the air seeping out into space and goes to explore what's going on with those droids. "Hey, any of you operational?" he calls to the worker droid corpses, giving on a nudge with his toe for good measure.

Plok makes rude gestures behind the backs of both AC-D3 and C4PQ, wondering briefly about the need for the Rebellion to include rude and overly-sensitive droids in its ranks. The ship will need spare parts at some point, so there's... that.

As they come in for a landing, he busies himself with getting ready for the excursion by retrieving his stun-prod, his ray shield belt, and his pack. The one he's going to use on AC-DC if the droid gets mouthy and knifey again...
Plok leaves the ship last, closing the ramp and locking up as they move to investigate the thin-atmosphered bay, and the station beyond. The Lambda had seen better days, certainly...

Alliance High Command had clearly chosen their squad very carefully! The Rebels that made up the crew of the Meridian Astra were made of sterner stuff than the Imperials who had operated this moon base. Each of you is more than comfortable operating in a low-atmosphere environment and you adjust your breathing to account for the failing static shield.

Hss’kas and the two droids march over to the tipped over Imperial bird, and the scattered remains of the Imperial droids that had been working the hanger bay when whatever happened happened.

AC-D3 cuts through the silence of the huge room with his question. The only response the droid hears is the frazzled, electronic guttering of a quickly fading droid. Many tiny footsteps bring the gonk droid to the ruined body of a KX-Enforcement Droid, which continues to try and speak through its ruined vocal projector. Sparks shoot from the thing as it over exerts itself, and AC-D3 sees the power finally fade from the things eyes. The Meridian Astra had arrived just in time to witness the Imperial security droid’s final moment.

Hss’kas examines the keeled over Lambda. The paint had been scratched up in the fall, and the tip of the ship’s nose had been caved in on one side, but it looked like it could still fly! If he could get to the control panel, he could use some of the hanger’s machinery to get the Imperial space craft upright again! It would take the Jedi some time…

Speaking of control panels, C4-PQ investigates the north sector of the room, and the door that would surely lead further into the Imperial base. While the door seemed functional, there was a second console nearby that was sparking dangerously. On the monitor, the protocol droid can see the words:

Atmosphere: Critical
Did the deft-fingered droid want to spend time trying to repair the console and get the static shield back up and running? Or did C4-PQ want to make that the Empire’s problem… when they finally arrived?

Knibbec and Plok close up the Meridian Astra and take in the chaos of the scene around them. They watch from the base of the closing ramp as the others spread out and conduct their various investigations.

Something itches Plok’s brain as he stands there in that hanger bay. A sense honed by years of bounty hunting and pure instinct has him listening for something beneath or beyond the hum of the failing static shield. The sound of scrambling nails on rock.

Knibbec sees it then, just as the static shield blinks out of existence once more. Nails on rock become nails on strained imperial metal as Plok and Knibbec watch a large beast clamber from the moon rock and into the hanger bay just before the static shield fires back to life. http://i.imgur.com/5BM4SSV.jpegIt sizes up the tiny Knibbec with its four black eyes. In Plok’s estimation, the Jawa looks to be about the perfect sized meal for a Nexu such as this one. It makes a high pitched and angry growl, before slinking forward towards the snack sized rebel!

At the sound of commotion Hss'kas immediately circled back to where the others were, to find a nexu had charged in and bowled Knibbec over completely! The Trandoshan leapt forward, but only pulled out his knife in defense, for he was loathe to end any sort of life form if he could help it, even if they were aggressively predatorial and looking for their next snack.

"AC, get that shield up. PQ and Plok, let's drive this nexu back and out of there. When we reach Knibbec, drag him to safety." The orders came naturally to the jedi, experienced as he was in the time of the clone wars. Hss'kas moved forward with a feint to try to direct the beast away. A quick slash across its snout ought to do the trick.

Hss'kas should've known better than to try to give their feisty gonk a direct order. Still, he trusted their bunch to know what to do when threats arose.

The nexu seemed determined to stay its course despite their attempts to drive it off. It was deadly, and could finish them off easily, as evidenced by poor Knibbec. It was time to defend.

The familiar kpissh, followed by the purple glow that gave the bay a different illumination, was followed by the hum of its blade scything through the space between Hss'kas and the beast.

"A gash in space." Hss'kas murmured as he found their weapons less effective than usual, still musing about the disturbance of this misplaced moon.

The beast's significant bulk and momentum had bowled over the two of their more diminutive members, knocking the wind out of both the jawa and the power droid. But now the jedi stood in its way. Hss'kas had sworn not to pull out his weapon unless under the most dire of circumstances, but he could not hesitate in the face of great risk. A wide arcing swing followed his speedy leap forward, severing past the spikes and teeth to slice the nexu across the face. He had no wish to cause the creature any more pain than was humane, and ended it as quickly as he could.

The purple glow retracted, and disappeared back into the folds of his robe.

"Better to get the shield up. We are attracting unwanted attention from the fauna." The beast had come from outside, looking for its next meal. The pirate ship though was oddly silent throughout the fight, which must mean that there was no one on board as well. Now they had two ships to investigate, and the first priority was to quickly give the Lambda shuttle a once over to see why it was damaged so.

C4PQ stumbled back, his photoreceptors flickering wildly as the Nexu finally slumped to the ground. The sight of the fallen beast made his servos jitter in alarm, and he clutched his stun baton like it was a precious heirloom rather than a weapon.

"Oh dear, oh my circuits!" he exclaimed, his voice climbing into a frantic, high-pitched whirr. "That—that was a Nexu! A Nexu! Do you all realize the statistical improbability of surviving an encounter with one of these savage creatures without proper weaponry? And you, AC! Charging into battle like some deranged Mandalorian? You’re a power droid, not a gladiator! What if you’d been permanently disabled? Or—" He paused, his photoreceptors narrowing. "—worse, what if you’d been eaten! Do you know how difficult and messy it would be to retrieve your memory core from the digestive tract of a Nexu?"

Finally, C4PQ straightened up, his voice softening as he took in the battered and exhausted group. "Still… I suppose we’ve all survived this dreadful ordeal, and for that, I am relieved. Let’s—oh dear, look at my plating! It’s scuffed! My beautiful plating!"

He began fussing with a polishing cloth he produced from a hidden compartment in his arm. "Well, I certainly hope the Alliance appreciates what we endure for their cause. If I had known joining the Rebellion involved this many… predatory encounters, I might have reconsidered. I will… perhaps... ensure that the static shield is operational before something worse comes through. Can I help, AC?"

"We would do well to arm ourselves with what we can find. A particular general spoke of hokey religions and ancient weapons being no match for a good blaster." Hss'kas mused. The droids looked banged up, but serviceable. So Hss'kas looked to see if Knibbec was worse for wear.
Jan 12, 2025 1:39 am
"Well, really, AC," he began, laden with concern. "I didn’t charge the Nexu because I thought it was the most logical course of action. I did it because someone had to act! That someone, I’ll have you know, just so happened to be the droid with the nerve to do so. And while we’re on the subject, my stun baton may lack the dramatic flair of your retractable arm-knife or Hss'kas’ elegant lightsaber, but it has served me quite well in a pinch."

He leaned closer to AC-D3, lowering his voice. "But you, my friend—charging in like a malfunctioning battle droid? AC, you’re not built for combat! You’re a power droid, not a frontline warrior! What if that beast had mangled your servos or crushed your core? I may complain about your antics, but the thought of losing you…" He hesitated, his servos whirring faintly as he gestured awkwardly. "…it’s unthinkable."

Straightening again, C4PQ glanced toward the ruined KX-Enforcer Droid AC had mentioned, his voice regaining a note of determination. "That said, you’re absolutely correct—this ragtag group of ours is in dire need of proper armaments. Very well, I shall scavenge the remains of that KX unit and the nearby area for anything useful. But not because you told me to, AC. I’m doing this because someone has to ensure we’re prepared for whatever horrors come next."

As he began striding toward the broken droids, he tossed a final remark over his shoulder. "And for the record, I would appreciate a little acknowledgment of my bravery. A protocol droid storming a Nexu? Why, that’s heroic!"

AC-D3, when not getting fawned over by his longer-legged ally, jacks into the console! Trills, beeps and boops ring out as the small droid identifies the problem and gets to work on fixing it! A moment later, the static shield comes back and a stronger hum fills the room. You watch and wait for it until you’re sure that the thing would hold this time! While the air hadn’t been a problem for the group before now, even still you can breathe easier knowing that AC-D3 resolved the atmospheric issues on the base.

Unfortunately, as C4-PQ goes over the ruined remains of the droids, he finds them quite destroyed. The Jedi himself peers into the tipped over imperial starcraft. The vision he had had from the force of violent and sudden movement returns, and the Jedi puts a hand to his pained forehead. This cruiser had been a victim of that great wrenching also, and had been pulled free from its docking when the moon moved suddenly…

The bird looked operational, and empty! It was simply at a poor angle for suddenly shooting off into space. If the rebels wanted to have an imperial vessel under their command, they could do no better than the one before them.

At the same moment, Plok is investigating the rival ship that has set down in the now-breathable hanger. A small, ball-shaped computer blinks to life on the underside of the Nabooian ship! It twirls around to face Plok, and then begins a sudden and urgent sounding series of beeps and thrills. https://i.imgur.com/Thp6ZhO.jpegPlok both watches and listens on as some back and forth is clearly taking part between the ship’s droid and an unseen third-party. Hss'kas was shaken out of his reverie again by the sudden appearance and disappearance of the repair droid, but didn't consider the need to try to stop it. "If there were security, they would have restored the shield, or investigated these destroyed droids, or appeared while we were fighting the nexu."

To Knibbec' question, "Leave the ship, unless we need it for some purpose. Let us press on to find the source of the distress call, and also be prepared to encounter these pirates." Hss'kas looked at the smaller door to their right, even before they contemplated opening the main hanger door.

The stormtrooper boot is ejected at suitably heroic speeds, and shoots through the quickly closing door in the nick of time. As the heavy metal doors shut behind the thing, AC-D3 sees the boot connect and knock the mouse droid off balance.

It beeps and boops in protest, as it tries to right itself behind the metal doors that C4PQ or Knibbec would have to fiddle with to re-open. AC-D3 is certain that the thing had been made useless, unless help was in the very next room.

The faint sound of binary complaints squeak from the other side, even as Hss’kas brings his blade up and forces it into the metal door off to the side! It would take time to cut through a door like that, but even now the metal was heating and beginning to glow orange.

Plok hears a low, satisfied and guttural laugh from the Gamorrean as he stands quietly for a moment:

Glarc
"Ehh ehh ehh! Putaa skakka!" but it sounds less like a barb, and more like an obvious, expected reaction at the pirates large size and imposing grunting.
"He must be scared!"

You wait and watch as Hss’kas goes through the arduous work of cutting open an Imperial security door with his outlawed weapon. Even setting the thing to life would send ripples through the Force that might endanger the Rebels present and their precarious mission.

Plunging it into the door, you see the metal begin to glow and bubble and fall away in large clumps; only to quickly cool on the metal floor of the hanger, and form into crumbling bits of twisted metal. The Jedi cuts away a space big enough for his bulky form, and low enough that AC-D3 could scramble through with little difficulty.

Peering inside, before ever setting foot, you’re basked in an ominous red glow. https://i.imgur.com/avTFpwj.jpegConsoles beep furiously somewhere further in, as if they were signaling their distress and alarm to any who would listen.

More than that, however, is a sound much closer and approaching. At the end of the immediate hallway the Rebels were peering down, they see a red orb swell to life. A second later and it’s gone, only to bloom back into sight a moment later…https://i.imgur.com/S00Wqni.jpeg

Knibbec, AC-D3 and C4PQ
As the trio banter among themselves at the large metal hanger doors, they begin to hear the approaching beep, beep, beep that has the Jedi slowly stepping away from the other door, and back into the hanger.

C4PQ taps away at a console just to the side of the hanger doors the mouse droid has sped through, and the things swish open with in a smooth, threatening Imperial fashion. The mouse droid is tipped over, still protesting its predicament. Behind it are another set of doors, which open a second after the first set do.

Beyond, a dark and windowless room. A faint blue light, as if of a hologram, shines further into the room. It’s quiet, and the droids don’t feel like the mouse droid’s security alert reached anyone to bring them here!

Hss’kas
… beep, beep…
… beep…
… beep, beep…

Far from clearing the group’s back, Hss’kas has introduced a new threat upon opening the side door of the hanger. No good deed goes unpunished.

If the Jedi expected to come under blaster fire in that moment, he was sorely disappointed. He steps back, his weapon held up ready for an attack. As he retreats, the thing trundles forward and advances on the Jedi.

It falls under one of the red hazard lights about half way down the corridor, and the Jedi sees that he is faced not with a superior battle droid, but rather a construction droid. And a badly damaged and presumably malfunctioning one.

It trundles onwards, even as the rebel droids slip through the main hanger doors…

Plok
The Gamorrean chortles as Plok lists off the bounties he had brought in in his time. The laugh is only slightly mocking, and otherwise unthreatened.

The large, pig faced pirate turns to someone out of view and speaks in its thick tongue:

"This one thinks he’s Fett or Ferrine…"

Ferrine, while not the most feared Mandalorean bounty hunter in the galaxy, he was certainly up there. If Ferrine was on your case, you were as good as done.

"Hurry up! We want to be gone before the Emp…" comes the response from a pirate out of view, but the words are cut short! A strangled, panicked sound replaces the end of the sentence, and it doesn’t take long for Plok to see why.

From his position in the hanger, and looking through the now steady static shield, Plok sees the massive form of an Imperial Star Destroyer suddenly blink into the system. The size of the thing is just devastating, despite it having arrived a ways off; nearer to the planet Humo than the Imperial moon base.https://i.imgur.com/BDHYB32.jpeg"Business. Yes. Maybe." the Gamorrean says, in sudden and broken galactic common, before the hologram fades out. The arrival of the Empire had taken the laugh out of the pirate…
Jan 19, 2025 9:18 am
Thankful that it wasn't a greater threat than expected or necessary, Hss'kas felt it wouldn't hurt to give the droid a simple instruction in case it was capable of following it, "See if you can right the shuttle craft, and attend to the fallen droids." He did not expect anything more untoward to happen.

"I will do a quick scan of this room," the jedi called out to the others, although he could not imagine the pirates being there. The atmosphere of this moon was indeed playing tricks with his perception of the Force that surrounded them all.

Jan 19, 2025 10:56 pm
Plok hustles as fast as he can after the others, babbling the whole way. He waves his short arms to get their attention as he comes jogging up, then a stream of seemingly incomprehensible words flow out of the alien.

The jedi was unfamiliar with the fact that the Imperials now had self-destruct sequences built into their construction droids. Unless someone had booby trapped it. Hss’kas
Hss’kas creeps through the twisted door, and over the blasted wreckage of the odd construction droid that had by now ceased its beeping. The Jedi moves down the red-lit corridor, and can’t help but notice an acrid smell to the air - like the scent of burnt hair or flesh.

Coming into the room proper, the Jedi looks around. This was undoubtedly the control center of the base, and where one might expect a distress signal to have been sent from. However, Ado Thorsh was no where to be found. In her place, the Jedi notices the charred remains of Imperial engineers laying about the room. Several lay slumped on their seats, bones and their Imperial uniform the only remnants of the people they had once been.

From the center of the room, Hss’kas can see out into space, and he sees the massive Star Destroyers that Plok had warned of. Even now, they were spewing tiny specks into space; presumably a fleet of Imperials set on rescuing the Imperial scientist just within reach of the Rebel band.

A solitary monitor blinks within reach of the Jedi…

While the brave Jedi dusts himself off and head down the corridor to scout out the side room, the rest of the Rebel crew stay focused on their mission. Plok’s warning of incoming Imperials pushes you forward, before retreat became impossible!

You enter the next room, with C4PQ dispatching the annoying little mouse droid as he goes. It was some relief that you couldn’t see the looming mass of the Imperial Star Destroyer from this windowless room. The room has seen heavy use. As you comb over the benches, you see that it has all the components necessary to make power couplings!

There’s the distinct smell of blast powder in the air, as you circle the space. A moment later, and it’s clear why! Someone, presumably the pirates that had gotten here before you, had tried to blast open some supply crates and had been found wanting!

In the center of the room, a holographic image of the very moon base you stood in was being projected for all to see. Far from the blasted, desolate wasteland you had arrived to, the surface of the moon was rich, dense jungle. Perhaps that explained the aggressive, out of place Naxu a few moments earlier…

"Anywhere away from that murder droid!" Knibbec says. "Although that means meeting up with the LIAR who didn't tell us about his secret purple sword!" Clearly Knibbec is still miffed about this fact being hidden from him.
Jan 22, 2025 4:18 am
The jedi witnessed the scene gravely. There was no love lost between himself and the Empire, for he had chosen to distance himself from how the Trandoshans had allied themselves with the imperials. But the sight of the dead sickened him nonetheless. Something had killed all these men, and presumably also whomever else was on the base.

But with the arrival of the star destroyer, it was urgent to at least delay them somewhat. Hss'kas looked to see if he could cancel the distress signal, or at least send another one to communciate an all clear, or to suggest that it was unsafe for the imperials to land. Anything that could buy them time. If need be, he would go get C4PQ to communicate this, or even AC-D3 to code such a message perfectly.
Jan 22, 2025 4:21 am
AC isn't that interested in the power couplings, but does take note of them. He's more interested in hacking into the door for the research lab. If there was anywhere you were going to find an Imperial scientist, it was their research lab. These types aren't big on work/life balance.

AC examines the door and test it to see if it opens, and if not, he will jack into the controls and try to open it.

When the Jedi asks for help, he insists "Sounds like a job for a protocol droid to me."
Jan 22, 2025 5:03 am
Knibbec loiters until everyone else has left the room. Then he casually saunters over to the power couplings with an innocent whistle and swipes them into his pack. Who knows when you'll need some power couplings? To barter or trade if not use. With that done, he follows AC-D3.

It’ll be a DC12 Tech to override the doors! Remember your Destiny!
You stand before door to the Research Lab, and find it shut against you. At the same moment as Knibbec is pilfering Imperial goods, Hss’kas rejoins the group, and adds to Plok’s warning about the looming Star Destroyer that has just jumped into the system.

The clock was ticking. Anyone unfortunate enough to have ever heard a TIE Fighter zoom overhead could, even now, hear them setting off from their own hanger and zipping towards the moon base. It was a sound you never forgot; especially when the Imperial pilots swooped down to fly right overhead in an attempt to intimidate the populace.

You remember why you are here: what you are fighting for… and against. AC-D3 jacks just below the comms console, and Plok has to lean over the small droid to work the console. The small droid zips and beeps as he searches through the door’s systems for the code that would pry it open. Just as the droid gets to work, a face comes to on the comm screen.

Ado Thorsh
"Good. That was almost impressive! Pirates ha…" Ado Thorsh starts, perhaps expecting Imperial Stormtroopers to be on the other side of the door. She stops up short when she sees your crew on the other side of the comm-feed. Waiting a moment to consider, she rolls her eyes:

"They sent you for this? Oh, the Moff is a brave man!" she says, clearly irritated and so hinting at possible fissures in high command.
Jan 24, 2025 5:25 am
Plok tries to smile, and oh boy is it creepy. Glancing left, glancing right with those glassy wide eyes... he looks at the holo and suddenly looses a lot of unintelligible-sounding words. Probably too many.

*Hello! Hi. Hello. Yes, we are here to rescue you, Ms. Thorsh, absolutely to rescue you. Stand by for rescue! Our stupid power droid malfunctions all the time, but he will have the door open any time now. And then we will rescue you.
Jan 24, 2025 6:20 am
AC-D3 gives Plok a lot of side-eye for that comment, which does take some effort for a box on legs. He continues to works the door mechanism, which is much less friendly than most door mechanism systems, wondering if he could convince it to close on Plok's head as he passed through. All these extra thoughts seem to distract him from getting the job done right!

As Hss'kas stood in front of the command console, he realised it was too late to try to cancel the distress signal or fake a new one, for the Star Destroyer was already inbound, and deploying its TIE Fighters. Nonetheless, he flipped various switches so that they would send conflicting signals into space, hoping to cloud all transmissions with a flood of nonsensical messages and relays. Hopefully this would fog up whatever communications between the moon and space. He wasn't about to use his abilities to sense who might be on board that Star Destroyer, it wouldn't do to give away the presence of a Jedi on the moon.

He then quickly rejoined the others.

A moment later and she tuts when no CD-34 is forthcoming!

Her eyes narrow, as Hss’kas enters the holo-projection behind Plok. Another alien, but at least this one’s species had the good sense to join the Imperial ranks, much like the Chiss.

You move east, with AC-D3 tightening his grip on the mouse droid with each step. The first few chirps and chimes are defiant, if not muffled from within the power droid. Claims are made that the mouse droid would never turn Ado Thorsh over to… well, whoever you are!

You’re not Empire, that’s for sure!…

AC-D3, persuasive as ever, tightens the screws a little further, and defiance turns to muffled, strangled confession. The beeps and whoops become more panicked, erratic… scared.

She’s… buying time. You… idiots! She can see… everything. There’s security everywhere. Look… Right up there…

AC-D3 looks up, taking a closer look at the ceiling of the room his companions were rapidly departing from. Sure enough, the power droid spied a second, secret security panel in the ceiling.

She knows… Empire is coming… Waiting you out… come some final, pleading chimes from within AC-D3…

The doors to the elevator shaft swish open, and you find yourself on a catwalk. Either side of the platform falls off into a dark pit and there are no railings to stop you from falling an unknowable distance downwards. The center of the room is supposed to hold an elevator, but the shaft is hissing and you can hear electrical circuits frying somewhere out of sight. No elevator is obvious…

All that is secondary to the figures within the room, however. Four stand in a circle around the central platform, while a fifth floats nearby. All five seem to be peering down into the darkness!

As you arrive into the room, they all look up at you, and blasters are trained on the Rebel band within seconds. Plok recognizes one of the five as the large, pig faced Gammorean he had spoken with through holo-comms earlier.

The Gammorean chortles as he sees the plucky, though not exactly fearsome band wandering into the room:

Glarc
"Geeta grunta chaak’halaa!" he says, and the others laugh. It’s mocking, but not exactly mean spirited. You had made a pact of mutual aid quite quickly once the Imperials had arrived!

ZS-24
"This is the one you were talking to earlier! My! Very fearsome, aren’t they?

Can any of you climb?"
the oddly dressed droid asks then, looking about at your crew!

"Only…" he says, and invites you to listen at the center of the dark pit.

"Help! Help!" comes a pathetic, sheepish voice from somewhere below!

Ivey
"Trapped Imperial!" one of the other pirates says, with a good deal of glee in its strange, watery voice!

"Who are you?" comes the voice from below, but it comes out desperate and sad rather than authoritative!

It wasn't just Plok who recognised them. When C4PQ had searched their database on pirates, these were the very faces that were displayed at the top of their search.

"Came from the Fringe." Hss'kas observed calmly, speaking to no one in particular but making sure all five of them heard it. In particular he kept an eye on the fifth one that was hovering. "We were wondering who had gotten here first. Some business with the Empire?"
Feb 3, 2025 12:39 pm
When the spectacularly dressed droid asks if someone can climb, Knibbec raises his hand. He was a young jawa, and despite his short arms, he enjoyed climbing like most non-adults. Where did that droid get such a cool cape? he thinks. Followed by, And how can I get one?
Feb 3, 2025 7:08 pm
AC-D3 decides to stay quiet. The pirates don't know he's not just a regular gonk droid, and that element of surprise might be handy. He watches like a hawk shuffling his feet.
Feb 4, 2025 2:41 am
Plok's chest swells as he walks into the room, swaggering. He walks right past the tall lizard, seizing the reigns of the conversation. Which he starts in on, full force, babbling incessantly as he points to the pirates, the hole in the ground, the arriving Imperials, Thorsh, the Jawa, himself, and the power droid.

* ...in closing, I believe there is a mutually beneficial relationship to be had here if we cooperate. Our Jawa can climb down the lift column... and you can keep the droid if you have spare blasters to trade. We will need them when the Stormtroopers come!
Feb 4, 2025 5:14 am
Hss'kas cracked a slight smile to himself under his hood as Plok took over; he could trust the bounty hunter to be totally at home negotiating with scum and villiany. Whether he could trust the bounty hunter as part of the Alliance, well, they did agree to volunteer for this mission ...

When the tiny Jawa raises his hand as an accomplished climber, they look at each other. They erupt in another round of laughs, and then human pirate, Redd, beckons him forward.

Redd
"Thats the spirit, kid!" he says, hunching down to clap the Jawa on his robed shoulder!

C4PQ’s photoreceptors flickered as he kept unusually silent. He was a protocol droid, designed for diplomacy, negotiation, and, if necessary, fast-talking his way out of trouble. But this situation required observation, not chatter. The pirates were unpredictable, the deal shifting like sand beneath metal feet.

Knibbec’s eager acceptance unsettled him—though he understood the appeal of additional armaments, he also understood the nature of bargaining with outlaws. For now, he kept his vocal processors offline, watching the exchange with uncharacteristic restraint. There would be a moment to interject, and when it arrived, he would choose his words very carefully. By that time, it would be more than just a few words. He'd need a lot of words. Too many, perhaps. Every syllable would matter.
Feb 5, 2025 12:16 pm
So Thorsh was holed up well and good; the pirates couldn't get to her either. Which meant they themselves needed the code to get through the door. Which meant they'd have to come to some terms for the code, or fight once they got hold of it.

"Before our dear jawa friend kindly takes up your offer, perhaps we could have some insight on why you haven't gone down the shaft yourselves. After all, that hoverchair would be a much more efficient means of traversing downwards." Hss'kas lightsaber had been tucked away safely and out of sight. No sense to reveal his hand just yet.

All eyes fall on the large Rodian, who was the leader of this band of pirates (if your central computer was to be believed). Would he take offense at the implication that his size was somehow an issue…

He floats ever so slightly towards the large Jedi, their gazes almost at matching height as he sat upon his floating chair.

"Debris!" he says simply. He throws a large hand towards the hole, inviting you to look inside. And then the human, Redd, pipes up again!

Redd
"Right! Right! The elevator sort of… caved in and the chair won’t get down there that easily! You think we’d be standing round here if we didn’t have to be?" he scoffs, as he starts to tie a rope around Knibbec’s waist. He pulls on it hard to ensure it’s secure.

"Brave Jawa!" he adds, for your benefit.

The pirates are decently armed! Blasters hang from their hips, and Glarc is armed with a menacing looking axe. Redd, the human, is armed with a sleek bit of gear. A blaster, certainly, but not standard issue!

The chair is very nice, though almost certainly stolen. It looks fit for the upper crust of Coruscant. Plok watches as his Rodian pirate counterpart rests a large, jiggling hand on the controls. Damaging that would surely send the thing careening around the room…

Still, like Plok, the jedi was ready to act at a moment's notice.

Now that they had located exactly where the pirates were, and what they were occupied with doing, Hss'kas weighed the matter and considered that their own ragtag Alliance team would be able to preoccupy them further in their extracting of the code and the negotiation and likely betrayal over the bounty. He gave the rest a look that he hoped meant Distract them.

This meant he now had the opportunity to return to where Thorsh was, and from there attempt to the door. The first thing he did was to take out the surveillance cameras, before getting to work on the door console.

It was not to be so. The machine was meant for the upper crust of Coruscant, which meant security expected by that same upper crust. The bio-metrics had been keyed to the fat, wanted pirate, and no amount of fiddling by some bounty hunter was going to break into the machine.

Hss'kas had taken out the lights and cameras earlier, which plunged the room he was in into darkness, except for the central console which displayed the map of the facility. He took a moment to flip through the settings, punching the buttons to cycle through as many distracting displays as possible. Then he shoved a bunch of shelves and equipment parts nearer to his reach. No point barricading the door, but he could surround himself with junk and buy himself some precious time.

Then back to work again carving a hole through the door...

Blaster shots ring out from droid and chair, which sends both rebel and pirate alike ducking and dodging! No screams ring out, which must surely mean that the thing had been fought to a draw.

Knibbec, for his part, only gets half way up the hole, as the rope moves this way and that! AC-D3 was a stocky droid, and his fighting off the pirate was tossing the slight, young Jawa around the elevator shaft! It would take more time to clamber out of the hole Knibbec had crawled into!!

Glarc and ZS-24 look like they are about to race back towards the center of the room and join the scrap against the rebels who had turned on the pirates.

Then, there backs are against the door frames, and they both draw blasters. They hunker down, clearly hearing something you don’t. Another moment, and you hear the comms chatter bouncing around the quiet, burned-out room that Hss’kas had broken into earlier.

"This way! Sounds like a fight!"
You watch as Glarc suddenly spins around the door frames, and fires off several blaster shots into the dark room! Red streaks of light briefly illuminate the white armor of the Imperial Stormtroopers waiting within. The large, pig faced pirate is back under cover in a second, but already preparing for another volley!

You watch as ZS-24 rummages through their pack, and pulls free a small grenade. Similar to Glarc, he spins out of cover, and tosses the thing into the room! It erupts, but the droid is already on the receiving end of Imperial firepower, and blaster shots ring out from the dark.

The shots take the grenade-throwing hand off at the elbow, and the droid’s appendage sparks terribly!

ZS-24
"Hit!" the fanciful droid screams, as he slumps down behind cover, cradling his ruined arm! The grenade had at least quietened the blasters for a moment, though the Imperials inside were surely only stunned!

Greeg
Polk watches as the large Rodian winces; his blaster shot going wildly off the mark! Rather than lining up another shot, Plok sees that it is the pirate’s intent to ram him with the massive chair, and his massive bulk upon it! He bears down on the plucky bounty hunter, seemingly happy to ignore the cries of his comrade by the doorway!
OOC:
DR12 Defense from Plok, and then you’re free to attack back.

Ivey
Given that C4PQ had been brazen enough not only to steal the pirate’s blaster, but to fire it in anger at its former owner, this was personal. the squid faced pirate momentarily looks to the door, and C4PQ thinks he might run to their aid.

No…

Instead, the pirate reaches behind themselves, and pulls a wicked looking blade from somewhere. Not as effective on droids as it would be on biologicals, it still looks brutal enough to take pieces off of the protocol droid…
OOC:
DR12 Defense from C4PQ, and then you’re good to fight back!

Redd
Redd, perhaps made of sterner stuff than his comrades, does actually pull away from his tussle with AC-D3.

Whether it’s the sturdy droid’s unwillingness to move, care for his co-plunderers, or fear of the blade suddenly being wielded by the Gonk Droid!

He races to the door, and unleashes a nasty volley into the dark room, and then races to ZS-24’s side!

A scream rings out from that blackened room, as Redd’s shot finds armor, and a stormtrooper slumps to the ground dead.

There would surely be no mercy now, for pirate nor rebel alike…

"Eyes peeled. We’ll take them by surprise!"
Hss’kas hears them say, as they scan the room, and move to complete the pincer attack on the elevator shaft.

Just as they are about to slip into the next room, something alerts them to the Jedi’s position. Was it the smell of the door melting in its frame, or the flicker of light and roasted metal?

"Come out, pirate scum!"

C4PQ barely had time to register the glint of metal before the Quarren lunged. The wicked blade slashed through the air in a crude, brutal arc, and though C4PQ attempted to step back, he wasn’t built for speed. The blade bit deep into his chassis, sparks flying as delicate servos and wiring were sliced through.
OOC:
Took 3 damage.
"Oh dear—!" C4PQ gasped, his voice crackling with static as the impact sent him stumbling sideways. His left arm jerked, servos misfiring from the damage, and a garbled string of Binary escaped his vocabulator as he struggled to remain upright.

Still, he wasn’t programmed to simply give up. With an awkward, jerky motion, he swung the stolen blaster up and squeezed the trigger. The shot went wide, searing through the air just inches from the Quarren’s face. The pirate flinched, his tentacles twitching in alarm, but it only fueled his rage further.

C4PQ’s photoreceptors flickered as he recalculated. "Ah… That was regrettable." His mechanical fingers adjusted their grip on the blaster. "Perhaps I should try again?"

There was no way to disguise the glow and hum of a lightsaber, so Hss'kas had hoped that the holomap display in the middle of the room, turned up to maximum brightness, was a good enough distraction. It wasn't to be. Hss'kas was convinced that they hadn't fully seen him and what he was doing, for if they did, they wouldn't have called out a warning first, not when dealing with the most wanted persons in the galaxy, more so than pirates even. The empire hunted Jedi, but thankfully these stormtroopers still thought he was a pirate hiding in a corner.

Hss'kas held his position. He was almost done carving through the door. Now he waited, either for the fusilade, or for some trooper to come towards him past the barricade he erected.

In the chaos, it doesn’t take long for the whole thing to play out! The Quarren steps forward, intent making one of the droids pay for attacking him, despite his beckoning you in close!

But then C4PQ’s blaster rings out, and the pirate slumps dead. Singed flesh stings those with nostrils to smell it! The pirate dies instantly, slumping down so that C4PQ has to pull his feet free from beneath the now-dead body…
Feb 26, 2025 9:28 am
C4PQ stood motionless for a moment, his photoreceptors flickering as the scent of singed flesh wafted through the air. He glanced down at the crumpled Quarren beneath him, his servos humming faintly as he wrenched his feet free from the limp body.

"Oh dear," he muttered, his voice jittering. "I do hope the Alliance doesn’t require too much detail in my mission report… Such violence is so uncivilized."

His photoreceptors tracked the struggling forms of Plok and Knibbec just as the massive Rodian pirate toppled into the shaft with a final, warbling scream.

"Oh my—this mission is rapidly spiraling into barbarism," C4PQ declared, joining his companions with its new found blaster at the ready.

Knibbec scrambles out of the way just as the large rodian tumbles down the shaft.

"The bigger they are, the faster they fall. Until terminal velocity anyway."

Now back on solid ground, he pulls his blaster out and hides behind the rodian's hover chair for cover. "Two down! You all should give up and join us! Or at least retreat."
Feb 26, 2025 3:56 pm
It was not the Jedi way to cut down the retreating stormtrooper, certainly not out of fear of failure or anger at being discovered. If Hss'kas had to fight his way out again, he would confidently do so, but at this point it was crucial to get to Thorsh. The Trandoshan let the trooper go; instead he swiftly ducked into the lab that Thorsh had holed herself up in, surveying the room to see if he would have to deal with anyone else inside, and more importantly if there were any other exits apart from the one he entered through.

"Hello there," Hss'kas remarked laconically, observing to see what Ado Thorsh was up to, whether she was pointing a blaster in his direction. Could he tell what the lab work was all about, that was so important to the Alliance for them to want her? And were they closer to understanding how this outpost came to be here?

PEW-PEW flashes the chair blaster, sending heavy bolts of energy down that corridor! PEW-PEW! If he manages to take out a troopers or two, or a probe droid — great! And if one of the pirates flanking the door happens to get in the way, well…

Knibbec tries to land a shot on the last Stormtrooper, even as he turns tall to fall back to the hanger. Both shots go wide, and both Knibbec and Plok enter the room proper and see the carnage that had been wrought by Rebel and Pirate alike.

Four dead stormtrooper, and one slinking back through the hole that Hss’kas had earlier cut open, only to unleash the malfunctioning droid.

"Fall back to the Hanger! Cut off their escape!"
Ado Thorsh
"The Alliance! A Jedi and a Rebel. They should have made sure to get you when they enacted Order 6…" but by then it’s clear that she has no intention of coming willingly, and so Hss’kas brings down a heavy blow on the side of her head, knocking her out instantly.

The Jedi does well to catch her before she hits the cold, Imperial floor of the strange station… As Hss’kas stoops to catch the Chiss, he sees some words on the monitor Ado had been at when he first entered the room:

Planetary Hyperdrive Malfunctioning
C4PQ watches his ally, his friend, go down in sparks and smoke. The droid is about to turn his blaster on the troopers, ignoring AC-D3’s dying wish, when the comms from the one surviving trooper on the other flank comes through.

"The Pirates have the target. Falling back to the Hanger! Call reinforcements!"
The four remaining Stormtroopers could surely dispatch of C4PQ easily enough. Perhaps they should… But they have a mission, and maybe they thought a Protocol Droid didn’t have it in them to really strike back against the Empire, even after they’d just gunned down his fellow Rebel!
Mar 4, 2025 3:30 pm
With Thorsh temporarily lights out, and what sounded like the stormtroopers retreating, Hss'kas took a moment to quickly check the other exit to see where that led to. Then, back out again through the way he came, to see the aftermath of the firefight and the fallen form of AC-D3! "C4PQ, will you be able to see what can be downloaded from Thorsh's computer banks?" The Jedi walked over to the power droid. The Force surrounded all things, both living and inorganic. Now Hss'kas summoned its power to envelope AC-D3.

The ancient texts spoke of only one who had power to cheat death, and it wasn't something the light side meditated on, for the Jedi believed in rejoining the Force when their time came.

That said, life was precious, even those of the inorganics. Hss'kas did not bring AyCee back from the dead; he merely persuaded the blaster bolt to focus on the mouse droid instead. The Jedi had proper respect for droids, and this power droid was as feisty and hardy as they came.

"This station's malfunctioning hyperdrive explains why they are here. Perhaps it is tech that the Alliance could benefit from."

The look of glee on Plok's face at the Jawa's question fades as he putters the repulsor chair over towards the others -- and sees AC-D3 getting up. He unleashes a babbling stream of strange-sounding words as they join up with the rest of the group.

*I did see that. I did! I was sure he was a goner! Those Stormtroopers really are terrible shots!

"Press that button Plok, it has a translator." Hss'kas saw the Rodian float back their way, and couldn't resist pointing out the obvious: the communicator function built into the hover chair.

Checking the room beyond the Lab, Hss’kas finds himself in the Shield Array room. Each console seems to correspond with each of the destroyed shield generators the Rebels had passed on their way in. Destroyed, in whatever mishap had occurred during Planetary Hyperdrive…

And then you are all gathered over the form of AC-D3, as the droid seems to shake off whatever electrical current had run through him when the Mouse Droid was blasted.

Speaking of how good a shot the Stormtroopers were, the Pirates seem to be taking the fight to them in the hanger even now; desperate to get to their ship and get away before the inevitable reinforcements arrive from the Star Destroyer.
OOC:
You can grab up Thorsh, but your ship is in the hanger! To get away will require getting through the fire fight. Do you wait until it dies down, or do you join the fray?

C4PQ’s photoreceptors brighten with something close to joy — or as close as a protocol droid can manage — as AC-D3 stirs and rises from the floor.

"AC! You marvelous, stubborn little spark plug! I knew they couldn’t keep you down!"

He claps his hands together once, a sharp metallic clink, before stepping forward and giving AC’s dented dome a quick pat — gentle, for a droid with his strength.

"Between your luck and my eloquence, we may yet make it off this station in one piece."

Without further ceremony, C4PQ swivels and strides toward the terminal where Ado Thorsh had been working, his fingers flexing as if to prepare for the delicate work ahead. His servos whir softly as he reaches for the terminal, his hands hovering over the controls for a moment longer than necessary.

"Let’s see what secrets you were so desperate to keep, shall we?"

He begins interfacing with the system, his fingers moving rapidly over the keys. As he works, he narrates — mostly for himself, but also for AC, who he’s certain is listening.

"Logs, manifests, command overrides… planetary hyperdrive schematics, maybe?"

For all his diplomatic flair, there’s just a hint of malice beneath the surface now. The Empire, after all, had already taken enough from him today.

It explained the misplaced fauna, and the ravaged landscape. The console in the room you now stood in had once shown a lush jungle planet, before Hss’kas had altered the display to hide his doings from the troopers…

You had seen no such foliage on your approach. Whatever malfunction, whatever tear in the force that Hss’kas had felt earlier, had left the moon bald and barren, and made charred husks of the Imperials stationed here. All, save for Thorsh and the man in the hole…

In the few moments before Hss’kas had cut through, it becomes apparent to C4PQ that Thorsh had been hard at work deleting her work and covering her tracks. To understand what had occurred, the Rebellion would have to take her alive, and make her talk!
Mar 7, 2025 3:59 pm
While some of the others work on the console to pull what data they can, and presumably work to secure the mean Imperial lady, Plok cruises the (very) light repulsor-tank towards the door that leads to the hangar. The hangar, their ship, and escape -- if they can manage to get past the Imperial tractor beams!

PEW-PEW! fires the chair tank blaster. PEW-PEW!

Hitting the Stormtroopers from both sides should do the trick, picking them off as they fight the pirates from the other direction!

"We need her alive," PQ says. "Whatever happened here, whatever twisted this place into… this, it’s locked inside her head now. The files are gone — she made sure of that — but her memory…"

He steps back from the console, gesturing toward the Jedi and the prisoner. "We cannot afford to lose her, Master Hss’kas. Not to the Imperials. Not to the void. Let's get out of here."

If we are unable to fight against the stormtroopers, PQ will check the corridors leaving room 9.

How did Thorsh survive, that was part of the mystery. Knibbec had ended the other Imperial in the elevator chute, so there was no way to interrogate him. The Jedi had the beginnings of an explanation in his head: the failure of the shield generators meant that the life on the moon was not protected from the warp. But now was not the time to test his theory by interrogating the knocked-out Thorsh. 'Then we must leave with her See-Forepiqueue." He handed the living database over to the droid.

Could they get away from the Stormtroopers, and then subsequently outrun the Star Destroyers? Hss'kas stared at the shield array. Could they turn it back on? That would prevent further reinforcements from arrving, and protect against attack runs.
OOC:
How about it? Any chance we can put the shields up?
Mar 8, 2025 10:41 pm
"If those shield generators can turn on, I can power them," AC-D3 suggest. "Blink 'em in and out for us to fire through, just like back on Cadomai Prime," he says, recalling an earlier mission they survived.
Mar 9, 2025 12:16 am
Hss'kas nodded, marvelling at the power droid's resilience. "Only if you've fully regenerated from that last blowback. Let's quickly look at the shields."

At the same time, Hss'kas kept an ear out in case Plok and Knibbec needed an extra hand with the skirmish.

Plok and Knibbec whooosh into the hanger room once more, firing blasters as they go! The three pirates are hiding behind the frame of the door which Hss’kas had cut through earlier; releasing the explosive droid out into the hanger.

Two stormtroopers already lay dead on the hanger floor, mixing in with the broken and battered droids scattered everywhere. Plok bears down on one more with heavy chair-laser fire. The trooper lets out a quick scream before being thrown head over heels to the hanger floor… dead.

Knibbec catches yet another in the back, as he runs to take cover behind your very own ship. He tumbles over immediately, and his blaster goes skittering across the hanger floor.

Only one trooper remains, under fire from both sides. Seeing the shocks of white now littering the floor, he tosses down his blaster, puts his hand up a moment in surrender, and then turns tail and races for the TiE Fighter he had flown in on…

Thorsh is thrust into the arms of the protocol droid, C4-PQ. It now lay on his shoulders to get the Chiss scientist to safety! The droid enters into the hanger just as the last Stormtrooper flees for his ship.

Stormtroopers would be the least of the droid’s concerns. Plok has the right of it. There was still the Imperial Star Destroyer out there; though at a distance. It would take some skill and a little luck to escape without getting caught by that terrible warship.

Hss’kas and AC-D3 hang back, to further examine the ruined mess that was the shield generators. They would help the Rebels escape, if they could be made operational. It would at least shield them from the heavy fire they would surely come under, once the Imperials realized that re-securing Thorsh was not an option. Better to kill her than have her fall into the Rebellion’s lap.

Whatever they were about to do with these fried consoles, they’d better do it now!

"What do you think AyCee? The pirates can risk the Star Destroyer as they fly off. But we can certainly shield ourselves first from the expected barrage before getting Thorsh away safely." Hss'kas moved around the consoles with some familiarity, but deferred to AC-D3 for the proper workings of the shield generators.

AC-D3 saunters up to the damaged machinery and begins his analysis of the the shield generators. "I got this one, Hss'kss." The Jedi might understand the force, but the droid understood power.

Alas, he is unable to find a working solution. The generators are too far gone!

"We'd better get to the ship... these aren't the generators we're looking for."

"There's one more place we can try, to keep the TIE fighters off our backs, and perhaps even drive off the Star Destroyer. The command room. I found the troopers dead, but the various systems should still be functional." Hss'kas was of course referring to the room whose door he had opened, the one right next to the hangar where the booby-trapped droid originated from. The Jedi nodded to AC-D3 when the power droid could not get the shield generators to work again, and then led the way back towards the hangar in order to reach the command room.

Plok joins in Knibbec’s yodeling, not quite sure what he’s saying as he glides the very light repulsion tank towards their ship. He barks out more gibberish as they make their break.

C4PQ, Knibbec, and Plok all race for the ship, lowering the ramp and throwing themselves aboard. At the same moment, you see Redd, Glarc and an injured ZS-24 do the same. They don’t hold their blasters on you in that moment. You suspect it’s a race for who can get out of hanger first, and maybe slip the notice of the Imperials in favor of easier pickings.

A task made more difficult by AC-D3 and Hss’kas trying and failing to get the shields up. They enter into the hanger, just as C4PQ ties and secures Ado Thorsh into her chair.

Hss’kas, for his part, makes for the old burned out command center. Plok and Knibbec has just come through that way, and left Stormtroopers in their wake…

The Jedi frantically searches for an operational anti-aircraft system!
OOC:
Same roll. Advantage, if AC helps you!

"Go go!" Hss'kas urged the others on to get to their ship. He ducked into the command centre, almost certain that he saw some kind of defensive system to repel aggressors, apart from merely the shield generators. If there were, they could be used to hold the TIE squadron at bay, or even drive them off!

One panel caught his attention as he dashed in, the one he missed earlier because there were dead troopers slumped over the panel, the controls for turreted autocannons! The Jedi punched the coordinates quickly to aim the guns and hoped for the best, and re-used the fallen bodies to hold the firing buttons in place.

Then with the speed of the Force, he flew out of the room towards their ship!

C4PQ moves with methodical precision, dragging Ado Thorsh toward one of the passenger chairs. He isn’t gentle, but he isn’t cruel either—just efficient.

He produces a length of synth-cord from a compartment in his chassis, looping it around her wrists and securing them tightly behind the chair. Another coil wraps around her torso, pinning her firmly to the seat. The droid tugs at the bindings, testing their strength. Satisfied, he steps back and tilts his head.

"Comfortable? No? Good." His voice carries no malice, but there’s no mistaking the underlying satisfaction in his tone. "I imagine the Rebel Alliance will have quite a few questions for you. I do hope you’ll be… cooperative."

He turns on his heel without waiting for a response—she’s still unconscious, after all. There’s still a battle to win, and a ship to get off the ground.

Tense moments pass! The crew of the Meridian Astra stall and stall, waiting for Hss’kas to re-emerge. The pirates board their ship, without so much as a goodbye. You watch as the ramp is pulled up, and then the engines spring to life.

The thing lifts off, hovering for a moment in the hanger, before whooshing off and out of the shield barrier you had stabilized earlier to return atmosphere to the Imperial base.

The TIE fighters are still too far to intercept the escaping pirates, but they are approaching fast. More moments pass, and the small squadron is growing larger and larger the longer Hss’kas fiddles with the machine. You’re sure that they will be on you soon; surrounding your small ship.

Just when your thoughts begin to weigh up whether you should leave the Jedi behind to secure the Imperial Scientist, heavy blaster fire begins to pour down onto the TIE fighter squadron. From somewhere on the periphery of the base, Hss’Kas has pumped life back into the base defenses, and they are turning their weapons on to the approaching craft.

Several of the TIE Fighters burst into shrapnel, while the remaining two peel off and keep their distance.

Hss’kas returns to the ship, and the ramp closes behind him. Just as the Jedi boards the ship, and final preparations are made, you lift off. C4PQ notices a yanking against the restraints he had placed on Ado Thorsh…

Ado Thorsh
"You fools will pay dearly for this!" comes the bitter words of the bound Imperial.

Mar 13, 2025 10:58 am
The moon was still something worth investigating, but Hss'kas had run out of time and opportunity to fully explore the facility, for the Empire had arrived to reclaim what was theirs. It was dangerous technology, one with far reaching consequences, if the Empire were to be able to move entire planets across the galaxy. For now, the Rebels had a slight advantage; in capturing Ado Thorsh, they could stymie the advance of this research. Whether or not they could themselves put this knowledge to good use was something else to explore for a later time.

The Jedi would travel with his ragtag team back to base, but after that he would have to disappear again until required by the Alliance. The Imperials now know where he was last sighted, and Tragen Foul would surely pick up his scent again. These were still dark times for the Order, what was left of it ...
Mar 13, 2025 11:53 am
C4PQ sat in silence, his photoreceptors dimming slightly as he processed the events that had just unfolded. The Meridian Astra hummed beneath his feet, its engines carrying them away from the Imperial base, from the chaos they had narrowly escaped. He cast a final glance at Ado Thorsh, still bound to her chair, her eyes burning with fury.

He knew the Rebellion would want answers—secrets pried from her mind to halt whatever dark ambitions the Empire had been chasing on that forsaken moon. But for C4PQ, the mission had been more than just another act of defiance against the Empire.

For all his meticulous planning, for all the calculations running through his circuits, nothing had prepared him for the split-second choices that had defined their survival. AC-D3 had nearly been lost. Hss’kas had taken risks no Jedi should have. And C4PQ himself had fired a weapon in anger—a deviation from his protocol that he would archive but never analyze too deeply.

There was no time for self-reflection. He had data to compile, mission reports to dictate, and a prisoner to monitor. The Rebellion would move forward, with or without Ado. But for now, he would play his part, ever the dutiful droid, ever the unseen piece in a game that stretched across the stars.

For now, that would have to be enough.
Mar 13, 2025 12:54 pm
Knibbec is cheerfully stunned silent. "We...survived?" He looks at the others. His facial expression is unreadable for obvious reasons but his joy is easy to read in his body language. He draws both blaster pistols and pretend pew pews into the air. After several moments he twirls the blasters and puts one back in his holster, the other in his leather jacket pocket. "So, what adventure awaits us next?"
Mar 14, 2025 3:57 am
Polishing the exterior of his new ride, rubbing out blaster scorch marks and various stains left by its previous owner, Plok ignores the jabbering Imperial. He gives AC-D3 a begrudging wassup lift of his chin when the droid trundles by, then the little bounty hunter says something chirpy and warbly to the celebrating Jawa.

*You know, if you get tired of carrying two blasters, I still need one. A blaster I mean. You have two, but I — I don’t have any. It’s just that if we get into a scrap again it might be nice if we’re all armed and dangerous. For the Rebellion! And any bounties we collect along the way!

Seriously. I’m okay with the one you prefer less!
Mar 14, 2025 2:26 pm
Knibbec nods. He hands over the Imperial's blaster. It was probably tainted anyway, not that he'd mention that to Plok. "Yeah, here you go. Although you owe me another blaster whenever we find one."
Mar 14, 2025 11:11 pm
AC-D3 hunkers down on the deck of the Meridian Astra at PQ's feet. He gets his friend to help him begin repairing the blaster holes in his armor, handing him the odd spanner. "Another one we pulled out of the shitter, PQ!"

AC-D3 was pretty annoyed at how under-powered the whole unit was. He addresses the team. "We got sent in here with box cutters and steak knives! We need to change things around here. Arm up. Not just blasters. Missile pods, turbo laser cannons, jet packs, you name it. Maybe get one of those AT-STs. Armed to the tits!"

After all, life was all about power.
