I am wondering if you have any historical campaign* games?

* i.e., you run a country and aren't beholding to what they would do, or did in history. For example, what if Catherine the Great had dispatched troops to help keep the Brits protect her American colonies from French, Spanish or Indian attacks? What if in WW2, Japan didn't try to take China, but would support the central gov't against the warlords and Communists?

Hello and welcome!

This post might be better suited for the Games Tavern if you're looking for something specific to play.

Hello and welcome! There have been a number of games based on history, quasi-history, alternate history, fantasy-history (what if ...) that have been played here. That's often tied to what game system one would be playing to go with the setting.

Welcome! I think someone had talked about a Night Witches game on here before.

Night Witches is heavily based on the real history, not alternate history (the book is worth reading just for that:). The campaign in the book follows the stations and actual missions the 588th Night Bomber Regiment followed during the war. It has some possibility for 'spookiness' but that was part of the regional superstitions and beliefs. History does not tell us about individual women in that monstrous regiment, so we are free to roleplay their lives around the historical events.

Not meaning to hijack too much, but yes I was part of the Night Witches game that CESN ran. Our wonderful GM managed to evoke the sense of the era, the mood of wartime, as well as the cultural atmosphere of the Russian air force then.
