I've been kicking around an idea for a game. Does anybody recall the video game Fantasy Empires? It came about around 1990 and was set in the Basic D&D world (Mystara) and it was a wargame in which players vied to conquer the Known World. I've been kicking around the idea of doing it here on GP, using the War Machine rules from Rules Cyclopedia. There are some things I need to figure out how to handle, but does this sound interesting to anyone?

Not familiar with the rules, but I love a good boardgame.

I don't know the War Machine system, but willing to learn. Is it PvP conquer or co-op?

It would be PvP, though alliances are permissible. War Machine is a set of rules for handling mass combat with a few die rolls, but it also allows for player character actions and strategy.

Certainly sounds interesting.

This is very interesting. Couple of notes:

1. Fantasy Empires is currently on sale on Steam (in the UK) - £4.25 (50% off)
2. Are you familiar with the Play-By-Mail game, Forgotten Realms? This is a war game set on the Savage Frontier and you may get some inspiriation from their rule set (its been running since 1994!)

Also, if anyone is interested the Rules Cyclopedia is available on the Internet Archive as well as other sources
