Testing the Legend in the Mist game.

The Far Isles are a small cluster of islands far from any other land. The people live their lives as they have for generations. Most are simple farmers and fisher-folk. Their communities are small and generally follow the law that has been handed down from their ancestors. They are not rich, but for the most part, they are comfortable, with enough security that there is time for leisure.

This is not to say it is a utopia. There are disruptions, raids, theft, greed, poverty, storms, tragedy. All the evils of humanity are present, but small in scope. The spirits, too, are not always the most peaceful neighbors.

And of course everyone knows not to be caught on the Isle of the Dead when the sun goes down.

(keeping it vague, so that world-building can be more collaborative.)

Looking for 1-6 players.

Posting at least 4x weekly.

The game will be open-ended and largely driven by the players choices. I have no grand plot in mind.

Obviously, anyone familiar with the game is encouraged to apply, but it's not in open release yet, so it's not required. The system is pretty simple (PbtA based) and I plan on teaching as we go.

To apply, start with four themes: A THEME is a tag that describes a major aspect of your hero such as their temperament, backstory, or abilities, such as always attentive, goat herder of Milkrest, or gifted archer.

All are welcome. This game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups.

I recently preordered Legend in the Mist as I like the aesthetic of the game. However, I have no idea about the rules. If you are alright having a complete newbie to the game, then I will gladly like to try this game.

I've downloaded the Tinderbox demo, watched a couple of few videos, and I like the "Counter D&D" premise a lot. The narrative style of play is appealing and I would be happy to join your game if you'll have me! :-)

100% ok with a noob. The rules are fairly simple.

Everything boils down to a modified 2d6 roll: 7or higher is a success, 9 or lower has a consequence. Of course, "modified" and "consequence" are the tricky bits, but we'll get into it in game.

What I have seen generally from the Kickstarter page implies that it's a rustic fantasy setting. Something related to folklore, old magic, druids, and fey. I don't know if I am correct, but I don't see much of cities or strongholds; I might be wrong, though. Ofcourse given that it runs with the Son of Oak in-house PbtA-derived engine, we can come up with setting infos. I was thinking of playing a questing knight kind of character who is part templar/ part knight. He is out there on holy quest given by the Holy Orders but he also is very stoic and benevolent man trying to help the common people from any unlawful harm. Will this be an acceptable character?

I just started a world-building thread to deal with the world-building stuff. One thing I love about AW (and the whole pbta family, down to CoM and now LitM) is how collaborative it encourages the GM to be.

Here's what I know so far:

----a) A rural, localized setting. No big cities.
----b) Land, flora, fauna, weather, and the occasional volcano are all real hazards.
----c) Zoom in tight - we begin with the problems of villagers and householders.
----d) There are no "Monsters" for the sake of Monsters. Even the monsters have a reason, a motive, a personality.
----e) Animistic setting, the spirits are everywhere.

And really, none of this is set in stone.

This character will be completely acceptable. A knight would be very much a rarity in the lands I've envisioned, so clearly there's something I don't know. Are you good with doing the world building on his origin?

I can definitely try and come with some setting infos. Then you can veto them.

This sounds like fun to me.
I don't know much about the system, but I do like making up a good story.

I'd like to throw my hat into the ring. It's a cowboy hat as my characters theme would be faithful, rancher, animal-handler who feels obligated to fight on behalf of the weak.

MC, are we selecting tags from the draft list in the Tinderbox Demo or do we invent our own?

The system is pretty simple, but nuanced. And it's nit even released yet. I'm working off the previews from the kickstarter. Anyhow, you're 100% welcome to join!

Feel free to invent, I'll nudge you if you seem to be going astray. If you do want to use the list in the demo, make sure to use the origin themes to begin with.

Just a thought, animal-handler could be a tag under the rancher theme. It could also be its own theme, but it will mean your guy is heavily invested in critters. Not a bad thing, necessarily, but it did strike me as worth mentioning.

MC, how does this sound - Theme: Trickster; tags - Mentalism, Ventriloquist, Stage-Magic, 'another one'

I think the character is called Seth and he has this ventriloquist doll:

... or Theme: Hedge Alchemist; tags - Herbalism, Forager, 3rd tag, 4th tag.

Medb can produce healing potions, psychotropic concotions, and poisons with aplomb

... are these ideas on the right lines?

OK, maybe I need to look at what you're looking at.

You should have 4 THEMES. Each theme is a tag, and you would have two additional power tags (positive) for each theme.

So Hedge Alchemist (theme tag) and herbalism, forager would be the power tags.

and/or Trickster (theme tag) with Mentalist, Ventriloquist as the power tags.

The Hedge Alchemist is a perfect bullseye for the setting I've proposed.

The Trickster can definitely work as well... the nice thing is, the setting is far from set in stone.

OK, I'm looking at the pregens from the demo. They have 4 or 5 tags per theme. Only two are checked off. This is so you can add new tags as the character advances. For now, you'll only need two per theme... you can come up with new ones as needed.
