Hey all!

I've had the .pdf for this game floating around for a while now, and I've been wanting to kick the tires and take it for a spin. Figured I'd see if this was something I was alone in, or if others shared the interest.

For those unfamiliar, Everyday Heroes is essentially Modern 5E. That is, most of the mechanics are based on D&D 5th Edition (2014), but they've ditched swords and sorcery for... well, the modern day.

I was thinking of a having 3 to 4 players, with the overall theme of taking a bad section of town and working to keep it safe. For inspiration, think of somewhere between Burn Notice and the Marvel Comics shows from Netflix (sans outright superheroism, of course). Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Punisher, etc. That dark setting where PCs are a meager light in the darkness, dealing with bad people in a grimy city. And the PCs probably won't be saints themselves -- breaking laws (assault, theft, intimidation, breaking and entering, and so on) may still be the lesser of the available evils... but how far are you willing to bend that line?

Probably be a little more adult-themed, without turning into a play-by-play torture simulator or anything. Bad things can and will happen to good, innocent people though.
Alright, seems like there is enough interest to get this set up.

Once I get it set up, I'll send out invites for those who expressed interest.

In the meantime, if anyone else wants to toss their hat in, feel free!

I'd be up for giving this a shot for sure

Honestly, I have the PDFs (picked them up in a Humble Bundle last year), and my interest was piqued. But... it's 5E, which I really don't care for. If you don't get enough takers, consider me, but if you have a full table, I'll give it a miss.

I don't have the system could I still play? Sounds alot like I could using information from 5e.

That's fair, and thank you. I know 5E isn't everyone's cuppa, but it is a ruleset that's pretty well known at this point so I figured it would be easier for people to jump in. I only have the core book though, so you're probably in a better spot with the game than I am. 😂

We might have to find you some Quickstart rules. I know they've been a free share in the past, so I'll see what I can find. I'm not entirely sure how much we can share on the site before it's an issue...

The rules themselves are based on 5E, so it should overall feel very familiar, but enough has been changed that you'll still need the Modern creation rules to build a character.

Of course! I'm on at least once a day for the most part, but we can settle on a pace as a group if this kicks off.

Well, if Nebula is the last person... 🤔

No no, it was a joke.
Like a classroom where one kid really wants to answer a question, and the teacher seems to look at everyone but that student.

i really like the theme, but dont have much/any experience with the systems.

Switched this to a recruiting thread, since there's enough interest to get this kicked off!

I'm pretty comfortable with the bulk of the D&D 5E rules, and while I haven't played this particular spin on it I've read most of the book so I think teaching wouldn't be an issue. Happy to bring in some new blood!

This sounds awesome! I dig the Netflix/Marvel take. What'd you have in mind for the length of the campaign? Is it a one-shot, or long term kind of thing?

I'm thinking a little more episodic. I could easily see it going for a while, but if we use smaller arcs to shape the overarching narrative it should (in theory) provide a rich experience for players who stay around long term, while being easy for others to come and go -- as play-by-post is wont to do.

That said, I do want to give characters time to grow -- both narratively and mechanically. The system tops out at Level 10.

The episodic approach also allows us to wrap up early if we just end up not feeling it. We can finish an episode, write up an epilogue, and put it to bed.

yes yes yes yes yes I literally signed up to this site just because I've always wanted to play this system and just saw a chance opening (because I saw another thread dealing with some technical issues I'm having). Never played d20 modern but I have the CRB and I just love the idea of modern roleplaying!

If we can build a ch then it won't be hard to play. Although my ch would have a trench coat ponytail black clothes and a samurai sword and probably a 45cal.

Depending on the kind of party... A few concept comes to my mind.

- A modern thief, like those in red notice movie.

- A doctor or scientist doing something morally dubious who got pull into adventures / mess

- Typical unarmed martial artist naively trying to make the city a better place

Thinking of something that would blend in the modern world and not try to wander the city with a sword or assault rifle and expect to get away with it. :D

Ideas I was mainly exploring were:
-A stuntwoman/mechanic whose the party's designated bodyguard.
-A down-on-their-luck scientist in between jobs.
-A H.E.M.A. or S.C.A. enthusiast living out there fantasy.

Well hell. Recruiting is closed, invites are out.

Seven is a bit more than I planned on, but considering how PbP usually works we can start a bit more full than anticipated.

I’ll just huff in the corner and sulk until someone drops out.
