* This may not survive two days, but this will be a basic overview of the setting, the game, the plans whilst understanding that it may all change due to character decision. :D *

Growing up on the boundaries of civilsation. A world that is being colonised. A world still dangerous but exciting, most people either settle and dig deep or dream of flying. Getting a ship and running exciting trips, exploring, trading, seeing more than just your 10 kilometre plot.

By some way, the characters have been in the right place at the right time, the death of one of their grandmothers. The matriarch of a trading guild, who needs you to do one more run for her before she leaves the ship in your hands, with some caveats.

What brought you to that fated trading post on that day. How did you meet her grandchild, and what agreement will hold you together in the first step to freedom?

Apologies if this is the wrong location for this thread. If it isn't, let me know and I'll delete it.

What sort of game do we think this is going to be. Are we aiming for something a little like:
- Star Wars?
- Firefly?
- Dune?
- 40K?
- Something else?

Any media reference points for style and feel that we want to hit?

Super good question. So far I am thinking a little 'Speaker of the dead' a little expanse (through a gate) a little starwars in the sense of adventure and cool different worlds. A little dune in the sense that there are big powers out there but we will be starting on a little back water. So thinking weird creatures, old but usable tech but the possibility of awesome tech.

Does that help? Also, players can definitely influence this. I think that will be the attraction of PbP as well for sure.

That definitely helps. I get the feeling it's a little frontier, away from more civilzed world. Maybe even a wild west feel, but with the threat of bigger powers at play.

That sounds great to me if I'm on the right track?

Perfect summary. Frontier with a threat.

Ok. This will be a short overview of the "world" we are coming from. I will add detail as I get character information and of course if you have feedback on how to make the back story better please say. I would like this world to be alive and influenced by us as a group.

To begin.

Your characters live on a world called "Whulpul". It is a part of the "Triangle hub" which is mapped in most peoples mind as a figure of eight made up of 12 triangle sectors around two large sun-like stars. Most of the 8 has not been totally explored. Whulpul and another human settled planet is in the same triangle sector surrounded by space stations and a few planets with "intelligent" or not intelligent beasts on it.

Whulpul was originally settled by three teams. A farming research settlement team. A military and mining team. And an underwater settlement team. These have all grown and changed and linked up with the traders union as all teams have been quite successful in their goals. There are three main "beast" tribes that are still being researched. The world itself has a huge ocean, a huge caustic swamp and a solid mountain range.
Most characters would have grown up in Camskoast. a back water farming, research and quarry town, long ignored by the traders union because of newer "more hip" settlements on the other side of the ocean.
Whulpul is seen as a backwater as well due to how far away from the main power of this corner of space is on the other side of the closest sun. But the dream has always been there. To get off world. To explore. To make a lot of credits and retire in the mountains, or the sea, or some other planet.

@Li can either be from one of the frontier military towns researching one of the beastial tribes. Or can be from offworld brought in to help with some projects here and there and before heading out will join this job.

@Veya can easily be a trade union drifter, or a mining dropout or an undersea researcher or a mix of all who can become the pilot very easily.

When the others send in their characters I will edit this but for now, the grandchild will be called to the transport hub in the mountains, a place where jobs can be found or good times can be had. The grandmothers will can be written and this crew will be signed on for that last job.

Hopefully thats clear. Any questions, suggestions, further worldbuiding for your direct characters?

And as far as I understand, "offworlders" is a simple rule set that will mainly look at "get that shipment and you get 50 credits" and "go explore that forest full of aliens and we will give you 50 credits" and we may not need much world building. But I thought I would throw some simple context in that we can use or not use and build as we go. If thats ok?

Then as I am here. Post format and schedule.

There are some formatting guides on this site that will make PbP easy if you have never done it and can't find it yell. But it is basically:

Bold for character talking
Italics for thoughts

and then convention seems to say "OOC: la la la" is when you want to say something out of character.

But we shall also have an out of character banter forum which can be used also.

THEN - schedule. I will set it like this and we can change as we go.

I will post a "what is happening now" (this will be determined by current events i.e "for the next 6 hours" "for the next week" "the next 10 seconds" and then each character will post what they are doing during that set.

Then 48 hours from that post, I will post again and who ever has not posted during that time will be skipped / not heard etc. Unless you tell us before hand that you will be in Tasmania for 3 weeks and then you can give us your strategy for the character or allow one of us to play your character.

But, lets say that I post at 7am GMT+3 and somehow everyone posts within 4 hours of that post, I can and probably will post again at 11 and then the 48 hours resets.

Is that clear? So we can post as much as we want as long as everyone does or once every 48 hours.

again thoughts ideas?

Hope easter was good.

Easter was good, thanks!

Post schedule makes sense to me. Of course it's gonna flex as things happen in your life, but it's a good target. I like the "next 6 hours" / "next 10 seconds" idea for bracketing. Gonna steal that.
