Whulpul. The unthought about back water that breeds only criminals and hack scientists. But in the minds of it's residents, they scrape by with hard work, the occasional discovery and a hope and dream that one day, they will be comfortably rich.

On one side of the ocean Li was paid to help try to figure out the best way to interact peacefully with the tree dwellers in the thick forest. They weren't aggressive, but they also weren't quick to interact at all. Given a week off, Li returned to the THE HUB for some down time.

Veya was on the run again from her good friends in the Undersea Settlement 2C. She had taken on a job in their engineering squad but apparently some her more colourful behaviour was not "professional" enough, so she decided to head back to THE HUB to see if she could land a co pilot job to get her off world finally. She had finally saved up enough to maybe bribe her way on in "borrowed" artefacts.

And after a busy season Bowie Nye had been given a few days off from her canteen at THE HUBs support settlement and she was quickly drawn to the hall of trading. To watch all the different traders come in and barter or deliver.

All three characters find themselves in the same corner in the giant hall of trading. The hall is surrounded by different sized shipping containers. Some of them are there permanently, used as storage both temporary and long term. Some are shop fronts dealing in local produce and trading for off world treasures. Three of the bigger containers serve as the customs office. At this time of day there is a line of 12 different groups waiting to be allowed to trade for the day, or stay for weeks.

In the corner where the three characters sit, are 35 tables sat at by a collection of students, pilots and workers involved in a myriad of activity. Eating, studying, planning, laughing and some sleeping. People come from far and wide like a sports final to watch the carnival of happenings. Others come for work or as their only meal of the day. The hall of traders acts as an off world trading hub and a local gathering point.

The three characters sit and watch and see and think.
OOC:
Please describe your character, add anything to their journey to the hall of trading, and anything they have or are seeing in the hall of trading to world build a little more. Any questions please don't hesitate to use the other threads. And remind - the next post I make will be after everyone posts. And then that post will start the 48 hour clock. YAYAYAY. We begin.

Li eats coconut rice with fried onions peppers and egg on top. It's a nourishing and satisfying meal. He savors it along with the sparkling water that he sips from a refillable metal bottle.

He looks at the other two people at the table. Two women. He decides to not bother them. But maybe say: "Hi. Enjoying the scene? I'm Li."

Li glances a couple tables over at the two very tall and slender people in brightly-colored clothes, whose tentacular limbs and elongated heads suggest they'd be more comfortable underwater than here in the trading hall. They're currently having some kind of silent luminescent conversation, little bubbles of light popping on their faces.
Apr 22, 2025 2:22 pm
Bowie sits slouched over the table, her long lanky frame uncomfortably folded into a space that should fit her just fine if she wasn't actively trying to make herself smaller. Her locs are pulled back away from her face as if she were working today, and her black-framed glasses sit perched at the end of her nose as she pretends to read the book in front of her.

The trading hall is the one place where she's more interested in what's around her rather than the next page. There's a lot to take in, a lot to possibly glean from overheard conversations and the array of products on display.

Old Junker is one of her favorites, always shilling random odds and ends and still managing to pull in customers for his broken and tarnished goods. Today she's been particularly fascinated by one of the people waiting in line at the customs office. They're dressed like some kind of businessman, all smart and shiny. But their manner is decidedly shady and she's curious how big of a bribe he's planning to pay to get permission to trade here.

She glances quickly at the person at the table when they introduce themselves and wonders if they actually bought their food here or brought it from home, then thinks they may not be from here.

"Bowie," she says, briefly gesturing at herself. "Wouldn't say enjoying, but it is interesting. Buy all of that here?" She nods at the food in front of Li, then makes sure she hasn't lost sight of the shifty businessman.
Apr 23, 2025 3:17 am
Veya relaxes, stretching way back in her chair and propping her boots on the table, sipping kelp beer through a straw.

"It's the best!" she exclaims to the table. "Nothing like a port on the go, right? It's always fun here."

She knows she should be keeping a low profile — there’s bound to be someone on her case, asking annoying questions like, "Where did that consignment of Lumi-pearls end up?", "What happened to the OmniScan we ordered?", "Hey, where are the credits you owe?"

But, keeping a low profile was boring. She finishes her drink with a loud slurp.

"Hey, anyone want one?" She holds up the empty bottle. "My treat — just off a job, got some credits, and I'm pretty sure the next one's going to be worth big credits."

"That's how it goes when you're starting to build a rep. Things just start getting better, right?"

She kicks her boots off the table, wobbling it dangerously, and gives her companions a sharp look — suddenly interested.

"That looks good! Which stall did you score that from? Whatcha reading? Must be tricky — you haven't turned the page since you opened it."

The sounds, the sights, the smells of the trading hall continue around them. The tall slender Esherukas are seldom seen outside of their ocean deep kingdom, but these must be the trader emissaries seen in the trading halls every three months. Their visits are always very busy so they can return home as quickly as possible. Their out of water conversations are always visually entertaining for the land dwellers, only two of them have learned to to be interpreters to the outer world.

Old Junker has been a mainstay in the area both as a public secret black market first port of call and also as a passionate negotiator. The three main staff never want to sell at the first mentioned price. They find trading to be more an entertaining game than putting food on the table.

Bowie glances at the shady business man a few more times and sees some oddly shaped packages exchange hands.

Veyas regular look out gives her the nod of all clear - communicating that her attempts and keeping a low profile are somehow working and there is no one in the area that will be asking after her.

And as the traders and travelers and tourists continue to mill around the table, the three continue a conversation.
OOC:
Please feel free to role play a conversation back and forth for a little bit for character development, world building and such. You can include any NPCs around you and I can do dialogue for them. Bu feel free to directly respond to things happening at the table and I will interrupt at some stage.

"My … friend packed it for me," Li answers. He smiles shyly. "Here, would you like some? It's vegan." He picks up a spare wooden spork from the carousel in the middle of the rectangular plank table, and gestures vaguely toward Veya.
Apr 23, 2025 8:59 pm
Bowie looks at both of the people sitting near her, wary but surprised that she doesn't mind the conversation. People don't often speak to her when she goes out, and while there's a twinge of anxiety she doesn't feel overwhelmed.

"No thanks, I'm good." She waves her hand to turn down the offer of food and drink. "I don't eat out much."

She motions to her book. "I've read this before. Besides, when I come here I'm often too distracted to concentrate anyway." Her eyes flick back over to the businessman, intrigued by what he's trading, before returning to her table.

"Are you two local?"
Apr 23, 2025 11:55 pm
Veya gives a nod and a quick wink to her lookout friend. The signal might be hard to notice from someone a way off in the crowd, but it's pretty obvious to everyone at the table.

Cookie was reliable enough. The trade hall was one of his regular haunts, and he'd be able to smell out trouble if anyone could. But Cookie's help didn’t come for free. Somewhere down the line, he’d want a favour in return — and Cookie’s asks were often excessive, even for simple lookout jobs.

"Hey, thanks." On her companion's invitation, she grabbed a spork and shovelled an overly generous helping of the dish straight into her mouth.

"Mmmm... veggies are good. Plus-good with the beer. You're missing out." She continued to speak with her mouth full. "Beats basic protein paste, that's for sure."

"You can bet, after my next paycheck, it’s going to be nothing but high-grade vat-meat for me. For sure, my next job is going to be a high-skill, high-risk, straight-up steely-nerves, iron-guts, ship-jockey gig."

She leans back, swallowing the noodles, contemplating her bright future — and another possible sporkful of her companion’s noodles.

"Am I local? I guess I am now. Been around here long enough. But I'm station-born. Was a teenager before I ever got mud on my boots."

"Still feels weird to be on a planet. In a big bubble of atmosphere held together by hope and gravity. Kind of unnatural, if you know what I mean."

"Veya’s my name — or at least the pronounceable version. Or Vee, if you like"

As she shoveled noodles into her mouth, Veya felt the weight of the letter in her shirt pocket. Maybe these would be the people to get off world with her and finally get a chance to make it big.

Bowie's last glance at the businessman confirmed that his shadiness had grabbed the attention of more of the customs agents than would normally be needed. He had placed the suitcase down on the ground and was looking in his pockets for paperwork maybe.
Apr 24, 2025 11:58 am
Li shoves the thick paper bowl around on the table a moment, trying to think of what to say next. "I'm an offworlder, originally," he volunteers. "This is the most recent place I've tried to retire. Can't keep still I guess. From Lemma Dxit originally. You probably haven't heard of it; another off beat place like this." He glances where Bowie is looking. "Oh. That might be fun to watch."
Apr 25, 2025 1:57 am
"People like that make me nervous," she says under her breath. "Sometimes it's cool but most of the time they're nothing but trouble."

She gives a slight laugh, looking a little sheepish. "Guess it's a good thing I'm not in security. I can pre-judge as much as I want and not hurt anyone."

Giving up the pretense of reading, she slides her book into her bag. "I do like watching people, though. Seeing people come and go sparks the imagination, especially when things are quiet. I've lived here my whole life, only been on a ship a handful of times."
Apr 26, 2025 4:12 am
Whatever the business man had been hoping, was not going to plan. After more customs agents were alerted and the papers he was looking for were not presented, some yelling had begun. "Look, I just need to get off world. I had my papers but someone must have stolen them. You need to find the thief. Why am I being treated like I am guilty? I haven't done anything." AS he yelled he began gesturing wildly. Pointing, holding his arms out like he was appealing to some crowd, scratching his neck a little. And then suddenly he ran for the gates.

Without realising, during the dramatic scene unfolding a non-descript man with dark goggles had walked up to the group and nodded. "Veya, you got the letter. Is this your crew? Maybe we should get going whilst the the gates are dealing with that"
He points to the businessman who was now swinging his fists at one of the agents as if he never been in a fight.

The dark goggle man motioned for them all to follow.
Apr 26, 2025 11:58 am
Li stands up, still holding his paper bowl and spork. "well, Vera, do you know this guy?"
Apr 26, 2025 12:10 pm
"Yeah, yeah, we're all good," Veya said to the man in the goggles, swallowing the last of the brew and noodles. "And, yes these guys are totally my crew."

She turns her back to the man and makes a desperate plea with her eyes to to Play along!

"Like family! This is Li and Bowie. Solid, Two of the best. They're coming"

She turns back to face him. "Lead the way! So you're from Dec? Do we have to worry about trouble getting to him?"

Dec was her cousin, the author of the mysterious letter.
Apr 26, 2025 12:42 pm
Li thoughtfully sporks a last mouthful of rice and onion. "Nice to meet you Mr. Goggles," he says solemnly while chewing. He moves toward the rubbish receptacle and drops in the bowl. This puts him on the other side of Goggles from Veya and Bowie. He gulps down his mouthful. "Lead on," he says to either Veya or Goggles.
Apr 27, 2025 12:20 am
Looking back and forth between Veya and Li, Bowie thinks about the cramped box she shares with two roommates, the job she'd practically sold her soul to get that breaks her down every day, the few belongings she'd worked hard for but isn't sure were enough to keep her tied to this place. She didn't really have any roots beyond the years of a life, and most of those she spent wanting to be somewhere else, anywhere else but here. But was this crazy?

She unconsciously touched the side of the bag, all her books secure inside the datapad she'd just put away. Was that really all she needed?

Bowie takes a deep breath, grips the edge of the table a little too hard as she stands. "Yeah, let's go."
Apr 27, 2025 10:14 am
Mr Goggles nodded, looked around to understand more of the situation and motioned to follow. The suitcase man was now on the ground being held by multiple agents, a nearby agent seemed to be having a heart attack nearby and smoke was coming off their uniform. Mr Goggles quickly walked in a wide circle around the pile on, slipped through one of the unmanned side gates a broke into a light jog until they were around a corner and into one of the giant hangers.

To the left and right sit 16 large and small ships of different shapes and clearly different purpose. Some giant mining ships for shuttling back and forth between different asteroids. Some people ships, - the cruise liner of the sky and the transport between worlds. And then further down the line the traders and the fighter ships. Turning to them and slowing them all up to a stand Mr Goggles sees that some of the party have never been here before.

Quite a sight isn't it? We should be fine with the guards from now so we can walk the rest of the way. Veya filled you all in? Ready for a very questionable adventure?
Apr 27, 2025 11:14 am
"Semper paratus" Li answers.
Apr 29, 2025 12:08 am
The circumstances and the speed of their movement makes Bowie question how legit all of this is but once they slow their pace she can't help but study the ships around them. She'd been able to get her hands on some old engines and parts over the years and enjoyed tinkering with them. But the idea of seeing one in action, fully installed and powering one of these vehicles is exciting enough she dismisses some of her concerns.

"Which one is yours?" she asks Veya as her eyes pan across the nearby ships.
Apr 29, 2025 11:23 am
"Yep, everyone's up for anything," Veya says a little to quickly, "And I'll get them all up to speed as soon as I know a little more myself."

"Not my ship" She says in answer to Bowie's question, "but we're looking for the one in 14B."

A little family job. I'm sure we'll get the details there."
Apr 29, 2025 2:50 pm
Mr Goggles nodded "That's fair. The letter was quite light on details for a reason. We will have a meeting on the ship in about an hour if you need to get anything before then, we should be on ship all night just to avoid any over flow from whatever that was"
He pointed back to the gates. And then if you agree to take this on, you'll be away in less than 24 hours.

As he walked along speaking the surrounding ships we covered in different people and machines, refueling, fixing, painting, loading. On either sides of the giant hanger were shops and suppliers, trucks and trailers and storage depots.
Mr Goggles stopped pointing at a medium sized dark blue ship 100 metres away. That one might be your future ship. We will meet there in an hour, I just need to get some more stuff ready. Keep your heads down enough not to be noticed but.... get anything you need. Theres a giant clock up there if you need it. He pointed to an oddly designed analogue clock. Not a style that is used often. And walked away.
OOC:
What will your characters want to do for an hour? Huge freedom here. If you would prefer you can all just follow him to the ship and sit outside.
Apr 29, 2025 6:47 pm
Li's quarters are only about fifteen minutes quick walk away from the 'port. That would give him twenty minutes to gather stuff, plus a cushion. But …aside from his light armor and his phaser and his phone with all his photos, which he always wears and carries, there's not much in his quarters that he values. Maybe his harmonica? Yeah, sure. "Folks, I'm gonna get my harmonica. Never know when a blues riff might lift the spirits on a space cruise. See you in 40."
Apr 30, 2025 1:23 pm
Well, that went about as well as I expected, Bowie said to herself as she rushed from the canteen toward her home.

When she left the group she'd headed straight for work, playing out different scenarios the whole time. She debated with herself whether it was utterly foolish to give up steady income for something that seemed decidedly disreputable. Was she truly willing to leave everything for the chance to get off world, possibly for good?

At the canteen, she'd asked Carl for a few days off, and wasn't at all surprised when he refused. Despite being a reliable employee, she knew she was easily replaceable. She paused for a moment, thought how easy it would be to play it safe, and then gave her notice. No going back now.

A quick glance at the clock when she got to her room told her she didn't have much time. She swiped her things off the bathroom shelf, stuffed her bag with whatever clothes were readily at hand, then hesitated for a moment before carefully folding Tau into it's casing and sliding it in with everything else. She'd finished the drone only last month. No sense letting it be sold for scrap by her roommates.

Almost as an afterthought, she took the small gun out of it's hiding place and tried to hide it within the unorganized mess of her bag. It wasn't unusual for people to walk around with weapons, she herself had a knife on her at all times, but it wasn't the norm for someone like her to own a gun and just carrying it made her a little nervous. Why she'd stolen it years ago, she was never sure. But maybe now it would finally come in handy.

After scrawling a note on the wall ("I'm gone. Paid up through end of month. Take/sell what you like. Bowie") she rushed out the door back to the hangar, never looking back.
OOC:
I think she gets back at pretty much exactly one hour.
May 1, 2025 12:32 pm
Veya has her gear stuff in a locker at the port. It always paid to be packed for a quick get away and she always travelled light anyway. She grabbed the worn dufflebag containing her small cache of worldly possession and then returned to the main hall.

She signalled covertly to Cookie that she wanted a word with him.

"It looks like I'm shipping out in a little bit." She says when the young man made his way carefully towards her.

"Probably going to be gone for a while, but it might be a pretty good score."

She punched him in arm in a friendly manner.

"You keep your head down while I'm gone, yeah?"

Even if their relationship with mostly transactional, that didn't mean she wasn't fond of cookie. Hell, in the world she ran in, she was fond of anyone who didn't imediately try and scam or doublecross her.

As you all returned to the ship, you were met by Mr Goggles who motions you all on to the ship. Climbing the ramp you realise very quickly that most of this ship was the shuttle hanger and storage. It definitely isn't a new ship. but it seems to be a very well maintained ship. Entering and turning a sharp left, Mr Goggles starts an impromptu tour.

I'll take you straight to the flight deck and we will get down to business, but to your left are most of the cabins, the kitchen and the workshop. Upstairs is the shuttle controls and extra storage.

After continuing up a good sized corridor you enter a large room with an even larger window that is half screen half actual window, able to see all of the other crafts in front of the ship. Sitting in different chairs are two other men in black non-uniforms and a woman dressed in a power suit.

Please sit. Mr Goggles says motioning to a temporary looking bench seat in front of desk showing a hologram of the ship itself.

Quick introductions for those I am not related to, my name is Tristan but everyone calls me Mr Goggles, the two in black are two of my associates, they would prefer you not know their names and this is a lawyer I have recently met called Ms Noname. Apparently that is her legal name and not some hilarious joke. She doesn't seem to be much of a joker. What I am offering you Veya and by extension the rest of you cannot leave this room. If you accept, my associates and I will leave and you will complete the task and be paid quite handsomely and be set for life as traders and deliverers. If you refuse, then you will be legally required to not speak of this offer to anyone, especially not my name or who I am associated with, due to it's sensitive nature. So I will need you to sign these contracts before I go on. Does everyone agree to sign, and do you have any questions before I go on?

He hands out pieces of paper with simple language binding the signed to a non disclosure agreement linked to the larger trades unions of this trigant (a measurement of space).
May 1, 2025 4:23 pm
OOC:
Bowie is definitely reading the whole thing before signing. Is there anything that might give her pause or something that seems to contradict what was just said to her?
May 1, 2025 5:01 pm
FoxRafer says:
OOC:
Bowie is definitely reading the whole thing before signing. Is there anything that might give her pause or something that seems to contradict what was just said to her?
OOC:
Not at all. It seems too simple. Very basic. If you do not agree and share any of what is told to you, you will be chased by the assassins of the union. Ones you know to be quite ruthless.
May 1, 2025 5:24 pm
OOC:
Thanks!
Bowie hesitates as she walks in, surprised to see people already on the ship. She glances at Veya, and not seeing any reaction, sits as instructed.

The document isn't long, but she would've made them wait even if she had to read an entire novel of legalese. She makes several mental notes as she reads each clause. Despite it being from an official trade union, she's still convinced she's about to become a criminal all for the sake of getting off this rock. Deciding it was worth it, she fishes a pen out of her bag and signs on the dotted line.
OOC:
I'm guessing that Veya would have a good poker face regardless of what she was thinking or would simply take all of this in stride. If Veya really does react, we can chalk it up to Bowie not reading people well.

If after Bowie has read the entire document no one has given Li a pen, she'll pass hers over.
May 3, 2025 12:21 am
Veya's eyes widen when she sees the ship. She follows along barely paying attention to Mr Goggles, her focus is on the ship.

As they proceed through the inside, she delays, sticking her head through every bulkhead she can, stopping to examine the ship in excruciating detail, her eyes as big as saucers.

"Is this one of the original Thalassa class researchers? I wasn't even sure there were any of these left. She's been refitted as a regular merchant, but the scanners, and the original research equipment are still on board. Amazing!"

She listens distractedly to Goggles legalese explanation.

"Uh, huh. Don't tell anyone, sure, no problem."

Veya barely looks at the document presented to her before she scrawls a signature carelessly.

"All these Thalassa class ships had a skiff. Does she still have one?"
OOC:
Lol, actually my vision of Veya is that she's anything but a poker face. Far more into the outlaw shenanigans than outlaw careful dealing. She's also a ship nerd.
May 3, 2025 6:49 pm
As Mr Goggles watches the signing and the pen sharing and the ship nerding out he offhandedly says "Oh yeah, the... skiff? as you call it, it is the newest part of ship. They upgraded it after the...."

And then he caught himself about to go into story mode. He clearly wants to spill the beans on everything but is trying to be above board. Waiting until the last signature is placed, Ms Noname also seems impatient. But she seems more impatient to get off the ship and return to her boring office back on world.
OOC:
I was out all day and I will give Li time to add anything he wants otherwise I will roll out the scene in the morning.
May 3, 2025 7:28 pm
Li scribbles the ideographs for "Bored Monkey" and hands the pen back to Bowie.
May 5, 2025 1:50 pm
Excellent Mister Goggles says whilst picking up the signed paper and handing it to the lawyer. After checking it and putting it in her bag, she nods to everyone officially, places a business card on the table in the middle and leaves.

"I have never liked lawyers but, they serve a purpose I guess" Mr Goggles sits at the table in the middle of the three newcomers to the ship and takes a breath.

I will take questions at the end but for now I will tell you what I know and what I need from you. Veya is my cousin. We aren't the closest family due to my mothers.... career, but, we had an ok childhood. My mother trusted her most of all the cousins because Veya always had..... her own way. My mother has been sick for a while, and as stubborn as she is, she refused to slow down and listen to any doctors so she has worked herself further into sickness. One of the reasons she did this is because she was about to hit a pay load like she never thought possible. For a long time now, there have been three major scientific schools of thought when it comes to limb regrowth. One - the robotic"

Mr Goggles motioned for one of his associates in the back who un-sleeved his left arm to show a very rough robotic hand.

"Robotic was never beautiful, but it was strong. Then you had plastics, which were beautiful but not strong, and sometimes made the lost limb rot. And the last was organic. To regrow the arm using plants or other meat based forms. The main genius in that school was a man they called the butcher. As he built his own space station offworld to experiment to his hearts content. For some reason.... well... because of money, my mother started a trade relationship with the butcher, providing him with such stuff that I asked her to stop telling me, but it was lucrative. So lucrative that the butcher began to trust her with more than just trade. She found out how far along his research was going, and just as she started getting sick, rumours started that his ship has been raided. So no longer received orders and with sickness on the horizon she had other things to do. But one of her last trips, she went past to see if she could tell what had happened. She reports that it was clear that their was a lot less life on that space station and some suspicious debris outside. And thus, our business proposal.

My mother wants an almost untraceable team, to fly out there and check. Anything. If the butcher is still alive, reconnect a trade agreement. If the butcher is not alive, find out why and find out where his research is up to. She has a few ideas of where he could hide it if he was getting raided and if his research is still on the ship, she knows who to sell it to to make enough money to retire everyone involved instantly.

You are that untraceable team. I understand how under the radar Veya lives her life on official channels. And if she has chosen you two, probably similar. The deal is. You take my mothers ship. Do some recon, bring back either information, research, a trade deal or a mix of all three. And you walk away with my mothers ship and 20% of whatever you find there.

We think this is a good deal as my family has set up the trade lines to make this possible, but you are risking the mystery of what happened so you deserve a large chunk. I also understand that Veya would kill to be given a working ship.

The last part of all of this is sad. My mother died last week. This was her dying wish, to assist the butcher further or to make sure his life's work goes somewhere. She didn't really care about the money, but she cared enough about our family that she wanted to set us up well.

So... are you interested, any questions?
OOC:
Hope that all makes sense, feel free to ask questions in or out of character for clarity or to add things.
May 5, 2025 2:35 pm
Li looks very serious. "Certainly." he says.
May 6, 2025 8:29 pm
"Ok, ok." Bowie says slowly, collecting her thoughts and trying to decide if she was content dying young for the chance to do something more exciting than exist at this outpost. "Sorry about your mother," she says awkwardly, before giving Veya a glance. "And your aunt." She grimaces a little, never comfortable with social norms. "I do have a few questions."

"So, on the off chance this butcher is still around, is there something you can give us that makes it clear we're not there to be part of his 'experiments'?"

"Any idea if this raid was connected to the government or a rival?"

"When you say 20%, does that mean of any profit that might come from selling this research?"

"And untraceable often means expendable. If I walk away now and never speak about any of this to anyone, I'm free and clear, right?"
May 7, 2025 10:11 am
"What can I say?" Veya admits, "I came from a big family."

"So, if I've got this right. We visit a creepy space station where a guys called 'The Butcher' has been performing secret experiments to do with transplants. If he's alive, we make nice with him. Get him sweet for some new trades."

"If he's dead or gone, we rip off whatever we can from the station and split it with you 80-20 and keep the ship."

"Well, I'm in!"
May 7, 2025 1:03 pm
Mr Goggles quietly nods at Li, points at Veya with two index fingers and yes "Exactly"

And turns to Bowie thoughtfully and puts one hand on his face to tap his nose thoughtfully.

"You ask very good questions which makes me think you have a quick mind that has thought of many things you aren't asking about. But I will answer the things you did ask about. Mother thought about what happens if the Butcher is still alive and left you these."

Motioning to one of his henchmen he collected a package of what looked like papers.

"Look through these. If you need to use some to convince him that mother sent you please do. It's trade records and love letters. The raid, was most likely a disgruntled assistant trying for a power grab or just straight up revenge. He had many assistants throughout the time and wasn't known to make a lot of friends. As far as I know, no local governments know of the extent of his research. He was officially a lecturer at a modular university. 20% means whatever profit we collectively make from any of the research taken off that ship. If you find a gold pocket watch or find someone to buy the entire station, that's yours to keep."

He laughed a little to himself. "Untraceable does mean expendable. But, you are free to go if you do not want this. We have a few back up plans but mother wanted to keep it in the family. And I can't be tied to this at all."

If you need a moment alone to talk it through we can go upstairs for a moment.

The business card has her contact details on it, an office number etc. Bowie recognises the offices to be a part of the more successful lawyer type businesses on the planet.

The papers in a quick look range from what looks like emails, to health report records, to some diagrams of plants and limbs, and receipts. Like tax invoices.
OOC:
Feel free to ask any direct question about the papers or the lawyer, as you are not limited by time specifically you could read anything, just easier if I can answer direct questions. The papers clearly connect the mother with the owner of the research.
May 9, 2025 10:19 am
OOC:
Sorry, I wasn't clear. She's not really reading anything. I meant she wants to just move the papers around as if she's looking them over, mix the card up with them, and then pick up the card with the papers. Basically, she wants to take the card without it being obvious. I didn't know if I needed to do a kind of sleight of hand check or something.
May 10, 2025 12:48 pm
Bowie collects the papers and sits back in her seat.

"I'm good. Let's do this."
May 11, 2025 6:39 am
OOC:
Oh. Yeah. fair. And all good. no roll needed. The card was left for the group, and no Mr Goggles. Unless she needs it not to be known that she took it, then yeah roll on agility please. But no need unless really specific
May 11, 2025 7:48 am
"Seems like we've got ourself a crew.", Veya says cheerfully.

"Creepy space stations or not, I have a very good feeling about this. I'm get good vibes of this ship. We can set off as soon as we get the details don't you think."

"I really want to see the cockpit too."
May 11, 2025 4:51 pm
Li looks around the room. "Isn't … this … the cockpit? I mean there's screens and stuff?" he shrugs. "I'm NOT a pilot, though."
May 12, 2025 7:49 am
Mr Goggles smiles and nods.

"That is a great observation and also shows that my cousin has been on certain ships, and not on others. This is indeed what we call the bridge. As it is not just a cockpit but also a ship management area and meeting point. This isn't the largest ship around, but it is bigger than others.

He quickly sketches the ship.

This is a really rough drawing of the ship. You will explore it at your leisure and there are better maps in the system and downstairs. And you can of course change things around if you need to after it is yours. But the basics are these.

F - is the fuel. This will keep you in the air for some time but don't push it.
1 - The engine room.
2 - The cargo area with your extra smaller ship.
3 - Bunks enough for 4 comfortably and 8 uncomfortably. You can also use one of the bunk areas as a prison if you need to. Its reinforced as mother needed it a few times.
4 - Living spaces. Kitchen, bathroom, gym etc.

I'll need one of you to put your finger print and eye scan into the computer so that you can set passwords for everyone. There is a great tutorial on its use that was set up for noobs. And I assume at least on of you can fly?

OOC:
In your next replies, mention in OOC what your character would like to do the moment Mr Goggles leaves the ship as he will be doing that. And then we can mix all the narratives together so maybe give me your plans for the hour after he leaves. I will create a much better map of the ship and as a part of world building is there any aesthetics you would like in the ship or equipment that isn't game breaking you would like included that would probably be included in a ship like this?
May 14, 2025 11:48 pm
OOC:
Quick questions on the ship: Is that half circle the cockpit? And is the square on the right side of the living area (on the other side of the wall from the bathroom) the gym?
May 15, 2025 11:46 am
OOC:
Yeah. Sorry for the unclarity. the halfcircle in the middle is the bridge/cockpit/ main computer scanner thingo. yup that is where the gym is.
https://i.imgur.com/yC6LWq6.jpeg
May 15, 2025 1:13 pm
Li checks out the gym. Are all the weights there? Is the chin up bar solid? He does a light set of dumbbell RDLs. Then he does another set telekinetically.
May 15, 2025 2:40 pm
Li is impressed at how complete and compact the gym is. Everything is solid but made in such a way that it can be packed down to save space for whatever reason. The chin up bar is very solid, there's cables, dumbbells and bar bell plates for a whole range of skill levels and a play back camera for checking form.
OOC:
Just for future reference, what weight can he telekinetically RDL?
May 18, 2025 12:25 am
Veya rolls her eyes at Li's comment, but doesn't say anything until the formalities are concluded and her cousin has left.

"I know what a bridge is!. Sure, I may not have gone to an 'accredited' pilot school, but i can fly circles around most of the drones they called pilots in this sector,"
she snorts.

She starts rummaging through the panels, compartments on the bridge. "I want to see what this old girl really has and I wanted to wait until we had some privacy to do it."

"Well she's pretty wysiwyg. The lab has some pretty fancy tech in it - that must be left over from it's old survey days, and that Shuttle looks like it's got a bit of push to it."

"I definitely what take her out for a run"
OOC:
Nothing really to add or assert about the ship. Just banter.

I'm thinking telekinesis is just as strong as physical and no better. So Li is at +1 Str, I imagine he's a bit above "novice". https://strengthlevel.com/strength-standards/deadlift suggests 336 lbs (153 kg).

As Mr Goggle gets one of you to scan fingerprint and eye into the computer, you set passwords for all of you to be able to access the computer. Mr Goggle says that you can change its name when you wish but for now the computers name is BeefBeef Md but it answers to BB if needed. Computer gives you access to everything on the ship, an impressive library of media and the longway communication system. Quick with text, Slower with video and audio.

As you all get acquainted with the ship BeefBeef MD has already been keyed in to make its way to the butchers station. The computer has set course for there many times will begin setting up for take off. It advises everyone straps in for the first hour and then the journey will slow down somewhat.

Veya takes over the controls to position the ship into the take off lane and gets instructions from the take off commander in the offices at the side of the exit dock. Veya recognizes the voice from a time before memory but thinks nothing much about it as she stresses a little bit being "at the wheel" of a new ship. Everyone straps in and gets comfortable for a quick one hour trip toward the station.

As the Sargasso glides silently through the vastness of space, its sleek silhouette cuts through the starlit void, a testament to advanced engineering and design with an added bonus of the occasional creek a sign of it age and experience. Engines hum softly, a rhythmic heartbeat that propels the vessel forward. After a fast 1 hour and a what feels like a slower 4 hour journey the BeefBeef MD comments "We approach"

Through the viewport, you begin to see the Mesininkas Alpha, a not giant but definitely not tiny sprawling space station orbiting a large dark rock. Its structure is adorned with shimmering solar panels and a main docking port. As the Sargasso approaches, navigational beacons do not flicker to life, guiding it toward one of the vacant docking bays. It seems that there are no lights on at all.

BeefBeef MD robotically mentions over the PA "We will now commence docking. But it seems the bays are deserted so I will need assistance from one of you"
OOC:
If your characters would like to do something in the 5 hours of travel, please describe that. Otherwise the ship will dock with assistance of one of you, please roll on your driving skill if you have one. And describe the strategy to docking in a possibly deserted docking bay. I will add to it after the roll.
May 19, 2025 2:37 pm
"We may need to spacewalk," Li says during the first hour. "As soon as we unstrap I'll look around for suits."

He does that during the monotony of four hours gliding through the void.
May 22, 2025 9:54 am
Veya’s practically buzzing with excitement at the helm — new ship, and this time she actually owns a share of it. Anyone lingering on the bridge quickly becomes a captive audience to her nonstop commentary: how the Sargasso handles, engine quirks, bridge decor choices, and endless speculation about whether the food machine will actually produce something edible. If no one’s around to listen, she just talks to the ship’s computer instead.

As the station looms closer, she runs a quick check over her gear — sidearm included.

When the Sargasso chimes in to announce docking procedures, Veya answers instantly, "What do you need, Beef?"

Then, to her companions, with a spark in her eye: "Why don't we fire up that fancy science bay and see what we can pick up on the state of this station?"
May 22, 2025 10:44 am
During the discussion with Beef, Veya very quickly learns a lot about the ship. How it moves, it's limits, how to track fuel etc. The scanner can be controlled from the bridge, but Beef explains that sometimes it gets stuck so to be careful and slow when maneuvering it.

Li finds the spacesuits very quickly. There being 12 in a locker packed away and the generic sizes should fit everyone on board. They are very straight forward to use.
OOC:
A few things. Can Veya roll on INT to see what she understands the scanner say. and then agility for how she flies the plane? Remember because you have the skill you can reroll one of the dice if you want. So just do two posts. Bowie please still post today if you have time and then we will run the docking scene :D
May 26, 2025 4:48 am
OOC:
Both rolls are here. If a re-roll for pilot seems needed, I'll make a subsequent post.

INT roll is a partial success. Rerolling lowest die for pilot in next post.

Understanding the scan results - (2d6+0)

(61) = 7

Flying the ship - (2d6+2)

(13) + 2 = 6

Adding a reroll for my Pilot. Rerolling the '1' of course. Final result looks like 3+3+2 = 8 (Success at cost / reduced effect)

Reroll for pilot - (1d6)

(3) = 3

Logging into the computers scanners, Beef start to comment on some things. Beef has been to this location a few times and they cannot help but point out some differences.

"Currently there is very little life on board. Some. But not as much. Last time we were here, in human terms, it was a hot house of activity. Not it seems more like a few tents in a snow storm. Ships are missing, there is some damage to the far side of the station. A lot of damage. But the scan shows that the area has been isolated. There is debris floating around the main dock, you will need to be careful there. But, the docks to seem clear to land, you may not get much response so you will have to land it further in for me to anchor.

Secondary scan shows a ship left very quickly from this area within the last three hours."

Beef quickly guides Veya how to dock using the override. She has used similar controls before on smaller ships and as she glides toward the docking bay, the crew begin to hear some of the debris bounce off the outside.

"Don't worry about those, they sound worse than it is.... I hope" Beef says. The ship gliding further toward its goal.
Li, already into his space suit hands the other two theirs.

"Those suits are a good idea. I am not sure what their air systems are like now, but if the damaged part of the ship is damaged any further, these suits will give you 2 hours of air before you..... don't have any more air I guess is the polite way to put it, Veya can take a earpiece to stay in contact with me. I can access the scanner and the ships computer for you but cannot do anything outside of the ship while you're away"

Beef then directs Veya further who deftly lands the ship into the dock and runs it as close to the inside wall as possible and is then direct to clamp it to the ship.

Outside the main windows the crew sees a worrying desolation of gear and debris. Like a battle between groups of commandos was fought and then deserted. In the dim light of a few LEDs at the edges of the large hall they see shapes that could be anything. Ones imagination would find elephants dead on their sides or a pile of human bodies. A ship smashed to the side and in pieces and some black spots from explosions.

As the ship starts to power down for now a silence descends on them. What has happened here? And where to go first?
May 28, 2025 10:23 am
OOC:
This docking space is the size of a football field. There are cranes, and storage and 3 other ships. 2 of them smashed apart, one of them seems complete. at least two thirds of the space looks trashed. there are 3 doors on each side that seem to be closed. The space around your ship is clean enough that you could land but maybe ten metres to the side it gets trashy.
May 28, 2025 1:51 pm
"Ah … ok," Li says calmly, "we've got our suits on. Little known fact: phasers work in vacuum. Anyone else have a weapon? I think this place is deserted, probably, but just in case."
May 31, 2025 2:14 am
"Yeah, it definitely doesn't look like we're the first to get here. Maybe this place has been picked clean."

Veya muses out loud as she moves from the flight seat to the locker containing her suit and gear.

She fixes the holster of her slug thrower to the outside of her suit. "This will work it a vacuum. Old-fashioned chemical propulsion, no oxygen needed. Heat build up might be an issue. Wouldn't want to get in a long gun fight in no atmosphere. But then, nothing to breathe probably means a short fight anyway."

She checks her own suit and does an eyeball of Li outfit.

"I guess we're ready."

As you all suit up and leave the door of the ship you descend to the floor and look around. Big but not huge, this station seems like it would have the capacity for a lot of different things, but as a research ship you understand that it has a lot of influential power in whatever industry it would be in. But this also reflects on the damage. Someone wanted to damage this ship and cause as much suffering as possible. The two ships are in pieces and Veya at least understands that the intact ship is not going anywhere any time soon. There are burn marks up the storage units and the crane on the other end is twisted somewhat. There are two doors close and one very far away. The far away one looks the most damaged but still closed.

What would you like to do?
OOC:
Hopefully the map makes enough sense. Your ship is the circle in the bottom left.
Jun 2, 2025 3:57 pm
Li fumbles with the suit radio. Eventually he gets it to transmit. Hopefully on the right channel. "I don't want to climb through rubble and wreckage in a pressure suit in vacuum," he says. "Puncturing a suit would suck. Let's go through the door to the right of our ship, at this end."
Jun 4, 2025 7:56 am
Veya whistles as she takes stock of the hangar.

"Someone really did a number here. Almost seems a little vindictive, but maybe they just wanted to make sure that no one was getting off the station."

"That could be good for us. It might mean that they weren't confident they were able to completely clear out the station."

In response to Li's suggestion she adds, "Makes sense. Let's go easy and let me go first. I got a nose for trouble and a knack for dodging it."

Checking that her slug thrower is still secured to her suit. Veya edges towards the door that her partner had indicated.
Jun 5, 2025 12:08 pm
Edging toward the door, the silence is deafening. The door looks scratched up and a little warped but seems to be sealed enough as it should. There is a key pad next to the door. Normal number pad with a green button and a red button and a microphone button. What would like to do?
OOC:
We will just play that Bowie is there with you and she can jump in whenever she wants
Jun 5, 2025 1:37 pm
"I think I got this," Li says confidently. He starts pushing buttons on the key pad …
OOC:
Tech skill ftw — fwiw?

Rolls

Tech skill - Int - (3d6h2-1)

(112) - 1 = 2

Jun 5, 2025 1:38 pm
OOC:
I just realized that "roll again and keep the result" ≠ "3d6h2". Sorry.
Jun 5, 2025 1:53 pm
Li starts to poke at different buttons, the other two watching understand that, he has done this before, he has some type of system to is mayhem and after pushing 12 different buttons, each with a piercing beep, the key pad starts flashing red with a lower beep to it. The screen on it begins also to flash "Error" and as the door begins to open, all members hear a distinctive metallic release sound, as if there was something behind the door being armed or triggered.
OOC:
Everyone please describe how they respond to this event and roll on the attribute you want to use to do that. I.E jump, slam, jimmy, etc - Agility, Intelligence etc. And try to phrase it as a 6 second moment. 48 hour rule starts now so that everyone has a chance to respond to the event otherwise I will roll my own dice to determine what each character does :D
Jun 5, 2025 3:18 pm
Li immediately puts a Force Wall across the opening of the door.

Rolls

Force Wall + Will - (2d6+2)

(66) + 2 = 14
