[Player Thread] Broadsword story?

Quote:
Seeing the broadsword made Bronz think of his old crew—sometimes, just showing you had teeth was enough to avoid a fight. But looking at Lu-Yam, it was clear he wasn’t built for that kind of blade. He’d never wield it right, not in any real scrap.

Still, Bronz’s eyes flicked toward LC. Maybe there were other ways to make a weapon like that useful—ways that didn’t involve swinging it.
OOC:
If Lu-Yam doesn’t mind what does everyone think of mounting the broadsword in a common area. Something to give the passengers to talk about and help make our ship stand out against the others. Originally, I was thinking that we could change the story at every port, but it is probably better to stick to one good story (i.e. for example we won/acquired the ship from a pirate).

OOC:

Copying this from the other thread in case we want to follow up with the idea.

Possible Options are:
1) Lu-Yam wants to keep his broadsword and we do nothing

2) (New Idea) We mount the broadsword and if someone asks we say it came with the ship but give no explanation. We simply use this to engage with the passengers and let them come up with their own stories - which we neither confirm nor deny. :)

3) (Bronz's original idea) Say we won the ship through a wild set of circumstances involving an extended shore leave of the crew, a poker game and unexpected heart attack of the captain. You know the sort of story that sounds too good to be true but is... :)

We also mention that is the reason for the ship to change its name and as "proof" a "real" pirate, Bronz will show off his tattoos (he came with the ship). And end with 'maybe we just mounted the broadsword on the wall ourselves but there is a reason we don't go 'x' jumps from 'x' sector.

It doesn't matter if most passengers don't believe us, which is partly Bronz's intent as if they don't believe the story they won't believe that he was once a pirate either - which is exactly what he wants. Also, being not entirely believable ensure that the wrong crowd isn't attracted by the story.

--

The whole intent of the story is to help give the ship character and make it stand out against all the other free traders flying around.

Other options/Comments?

Perhaps the miss Fortune of the ship was running into this crew, who captured it to the Miss Fortune of pirates....

Comments to Bronz:
The ATHELSTONE seems to be well known at least on Fornice and in our starting system so we have to be aware of this.
Changing the name of the ship is an option as long as we don't drag too much baggage with us.
Any suggestions for a new name?
It's pretty cliché but , I like Nova. We can dress up Nova with a descriptive like the Orion Nova or Nova Orioni or something more related to commerce like Mercury.
I like Nova for the implied "newness", dynamics & power. Mercury was the Roman god of Merchants and the name implies speed. Nova & Mercury are from Ancient Earth but the memories may have lasted for a few millennia.
I'm open to anything.

Actually, there is a discussion of the name change in the 'Drafting the Merchant Charter -musing by a player' thread and a poll of current suggested names on page 2 of that thread. While there is a tend towards one name feel free to make an argument for your suggestions. These can be added to the poll (I think) and maybe someone will want to change their vote.
