Rich Howards Adaptable Humans (Just in case we go with the humans only)

Darksoul rules seem legit, can't wait to see how everything plays out. I'm excited to play!

Welcome snow and candi. If the other original applicants contact me they can join too but I think 6 is my limit.

Awesome! Happy to be a part of your experiment :)

A quick note about items, xp and wealth...

The first thing is items, you can examine an item at any time with an arcane, history or religion check to determine its properties and a snippet of its story. If you examine an item while resting at a bonfire you succeed automatically.

I will be handling wealth and xp in the same way as the source material does. When you kill enemies you will automatically collect their soul. The soul will have an xp value equal to twice the value you would normally be awarded for killing the foe. Why twice you may ask? Well these soul items are also "worth" an amount of gold equal to the amount of co it grants you. (Conveniently it seems that expected wealth per character level is ~ proportional to xp). So when you collect souls you will need to choose between consuming then to level, and keeping them to trade.

Good to know, was wondering how my character was gonna figure out everything.

Quick questions/comment about the Souls rules --

-- hollowing reduces your maximum hit points, can these be restored in ways other than consuming humanity? (there are abilities that allow you to restore your max hit points).

-- since Estus and Bonfire healing replace hit die, what happens to class powers that interact with hit dice? I'm thinking of the Fighter's Second Wind, as an example.

-- lethality is thematic, but I'm concerned it might create a thoroughly grindy experience. In Dark Souls you have reaction timing and reading enemies as advantages to overcome punishing lethality, but in D&D you have dice rolls and... dice rolls. Without some way to get the edge on foes you are repeatedly throwing your face into, your lowering hit points and their increased damage all but guarantee you'll become mathematically unable to defeat them.

Love the XP / Gold idea.

Are you allowing Unearthed Arcana? I'm considering psion (I'd also be happy to work through a retheme of the mechanics if it's too far off the source material in theme).

1) effects that restore your max hit points (though I can't think of any of the top of my head) can be considered as spells that restore your humanity.

2) I didn't think there were class powers that did that. Second wind for example (at least in the srd which is what I have on hand at the moment) reads:

You have a limited well of stamina that you can draw on to protect yourself from harm. On your turn, you can use a bonus action to regain hit points equal to 1d10 + your fighter level. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

But if there is one we can just have the powers key of Estus use.

3) I'm not using the added lethality suggested in the variant rules. I think a single PC will make things hard enough as it is. The encounters will be balance against 1 PC (at least I'll build them using the table), so it shouldn't be too Grundy. I'll be reasonably liberal with bonfires as well, placing them approximately on curve in terms of encounters per long rest.

Go got it. Psionics doesn't seem too far out of the ethos...

Amazing, you're my favourite GM :) (I'm going the Immortal route, FYI, so no need to stress about the psionic investigation power -- which would cut a bit against your cool lore rules).

1) Cool. Those effects are pretty high level anyway, but I was curious.

2) Well, shows I never play fighters. I know one power that does (psionis get a power that "spends 2 hit dice" - this could restore an estus flask instead -- we can negotiate if I pick it, but I probably will)

3) Awesome!

Upon re-reading I realized you didn't actually give the go ahead -- here are the Unearthed Arcana releases I was thinking of using:

Class Details: http://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/Psionics_and_Mystic_V2.pdf
Feat Details: https://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/UA-Feats-V1.pdf

The specific feat is spear mastery (Variant Human for the feat). If those look acceptable, I can submit the character later today.

The go for it was for the UA stuff. In a game when I'm allowing homebrew I'm almost definitely going to allow the homebrew that wizards did. As for the psionic investigation power (as well as legend lore) these would still operate as written, it's just your gonna be getting a lot of fancy named things and I needed establish a fun way for the actual information to disseminate.

In that case, character submitted!

If you want me to break down the level progression in the notes I can.

All that's left for me to do is fill out the descriptions of powers on the sheet.

Damn, just realized I should've named my character like everyone else in the Souls series: "Name of Place" or "Adjective Name".
Nov 7, 2016 11:15 pm
You can edit the character name to fit that format.
Nov 7, 2016 11:17 pm
Yep, already did it! :P

Hey guys, I know I've been MIA. I'll get it all setup tomorrow or thursday. Likely tomorrow later. I have had three tests in the last week and the last one is tomorrow morning. Sorry for the late start.
