Our normal Wednesday night game is a Savage Worlds horror campaign that I run called Shadows of New York. Tonight, though, we were short four players. So tonight I took my group on a journey across time and space, to a Friday night in 1981. I (re)introduced them to BECMI D&D! Two of them were too young to remember it when it debuted, and for the others, it had been quite a while since they had played it (several decades, at least). A good time was had by all, though! Peals of happy laughter rang through the night as they explored the mysticism of descending armor class, lack of criticals, and death at 0 hit points.
