Interest Check: Necessary Evil (Savage Worlds)

System: Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE).

Genre: Superhero, War Story.

Number of Players: Four or five.

Posting Rate: Two or three times per week.

Game Duration: Probably about a year.

Experience: Those new to SWADE are welcome. The system is easy to learn. Prior experience with the system is great but not necessary.

Mature Content: There will likely be violence and coarse language. At times, the game may explore the horrors of superhuman warfare.

Resources: A copy of the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition is required. I will provide any other needed resources.

Character Restrictions: Character creation restrictions and rules will be addressed in one of the game threads.



The Premise

Earth is invaded by an unstoppable army of extraterrestrials, the V'sori. In the ensuing conflict, nearly all of Earth's superheroes are killed or captured by the aliens. Humanity is in desperate need of superpowered muscle to fight back against the conquerors. But as nations fall to the aliens and their vastly superior technology, the question becomes: Who will save the day?

Supervillains, of course.

Necessary Evil picks up a few years after the aliens have secured an iron grip upon the world. Your character is a supervillain who has managed to survive the initial invasion and superhuman purges. You have teamed up with other evildoers in a bid to resist the invaders. You are the only ones left to fight them, and failure will ultimately mean your death or enslavement. While some villains have unwisely chosen to serve the extraterrestrials as traitorous collaborators, many superpowered scoundrels have alternately decided to stand against the V'sori. In an ironic twist of fate, these self-serving misanthropes, criminals, and madmen represent the Earth's last, greatest hope.

You are still villains, however, and you each have your own agendas. You and other "bad guys" have banded together for mutual protection and to save the world, which is in everyone's benefit. Yet in addition to self-preservation, you might have other motivations for battling the V'sori: Pride, revenge, profit, entertainment. Maybe even redemption.

I'm interested. I've played several SWADE games but none of them lasted long, much less finished. I'll have to dig until it again add it's been a while.

I'm interested but it will be a couple of weeks until I'm able to commit to the posting rate. If you have enough others grab 'em and go but if not I'm here for it (or will be when I'm home.)

I have a little but not much SWADE experience, and playing a villain doing heroics for wrong reasons sounds great. I am interested

Wait, there is an EVIL supplement?

Wasn't there? Or was it the plot point campaign? I also have to say that I don't have the super powers supplement.

What's the tone? Gonzo silver age weirdos? The Punisher?

As long as we are not classic cartoon villains, lots or apparent power, skill, gear, but always loosing before they can pull off their big move, then we have some hope. I though the comment about suicide squad was the intended tone. Step 1: get rid of Waller, oh wait, the aliens already did that. Right?

There are a few Necessary Evil books. But I’ll provide any needed info in the char creation thread.

The tone is somewhat serious. Going for a gritty war story. There will definitely be room for humor, but I want to avoid anything too campy or kitschy.

In terms of power level, the characters will be mid-power four-color villains. You’re stronger than street level villains, but you also aren’t cosmic level threats, either.

What power level would we be playing at? Any level is fine but with a global issue I assume we are Four Colors or Heavy Hitters?

You’ll be Power Level III. 45 power points.
