Game System
The Magnus Archives RPG (Uses the Cypher System) [Player's Guide is free to download from Monte Cook themselves)

The Pitch
The family has run the Foundation for centuries with each person serving whichever Entity they choose as soon as they come of age. The Usher Foundation has dedicated their lives to keeping balance between The Fears. You will start as Tier 1 character. Your job is to archive/investigate statements and bring back any objects of power you my find for proper storage (or usage). Your characters are related by blood but that doesn't mean they always get along or even know each other. Perhaps you're half siblings, aunt, cousin, adopted, etc. but is family truly everything? The degree to which your characters know each other can be decided at character creation. I'll be running the adventures from the core book so please don't read those ahead of time. If you have, please let me know so that I modify it if need be.

You don't need to know any of the podcast lore as this will be non-canon compliant.

Adult Content or Controversial Themes
This is a horror game. General content warning for: fear, gore, bugs, death, murder, loneliness, etc. I will give each person a consent checklist to fill out so. Once I have everyone's I will set up a rules channel with any yellow or red cards and everyone must abide by those rules. First time you disobey, you will be given a warning. Next time, you're out.

Character Restrictions
None, though everyone will be Tier 1.

Game Duration and Post Frequency
I will be running at least the two adventures out of the core book. After we're done with those, we can vibe check how the group is feeling and see if we wanna continue. Post frequency of at least once a week. If you're in the middle of combat or an intense scene please check back in more frequently but people will only be kicked out if they don't post once a week.

Specialized Software and Resources
Discord text. I have a server set up specifically for this with dedicated channels. I have all the current material and will share if anyone wants it.

Player Experience Requirements
Game is open to all experience levels. I, myself, have never run Cypher System or a pbp game before so I may need a little tips here and there on the format. I'm open to critique.

How to Apply
Please post below with a bit about what you have in mind for your character, your playstyle, and what you're looking for in a game. I have one player already and will take up to 4 more. If there's enough interest I can open a second table.

~Bigots need not apply.

This game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups.

When I saw the interest check I told myself to behave as I have a lot of games. Then the fact everyone is family where I've wanted a game like that one a while...

If you need another player hit me up, but everyone else should get priority!

I have barely any knowledge of cypher. Built a character for a game but it fizzled before dice started rolling.

I think I'd be interested in playing someone that would have The Lonely as a patron (or at least be drawn towards that sort of thing). A brief background idea for the character:

"Once a disaster relief volunteer, Caleb vanished for three years after being presumed lost in a Category 5 hurricane. When he returned, he was changed—gaunt, silent, and obsessively drawn to desolate places. He doesn’t remember where he was, only that "the sea was quiet, and the world had no edges." Caleb now seeks out collapse: condemned buildings, forgotten towns, derelict hospitals. He photographs them obsessively, claiming they "speak when no one else does." His drive is to create a "perfect absence"—a still point in a chaotic world"

As far as playstyle goes and what I'm looking for in a game, I think I'm very collaborative and, in PBP games especially, I tend to prefer the narrative and character development over straight combat. A good story is always what I'm after.

Hmm, I think my character concept is a rich antiquarian who’s obsessed with tracking down Leitner books. I’d need to look at the Magnus Archives RPG to get more details.

I’ve played a little Cypher System but my experience is limited.
