Posting "Standards"

Nov 28, 2016 7:00 pm
To keep things running smoothly, and to make things an easier read, I've got a particular set of standards I try to apply to my own postings. I would appreciate if you could try to follow the same patterns, if at all possible.

In short:

Your characters actions are posted in unadorned plain text. I try to keep these in third person, present tense.
Quote:
The towering man draws the massive sword from his back, setting his stance against the upcoming rush of kobolds.
Your speech is done in bold text.
Quote:
Come and taste my steel! the barbarian growls, feeling his rage flow through his veins.
Internal thoughts are handled through green italics. This is a minor change from previous games I've run, based on feedback from a player with dyslexia. This gives multiple ways for people to spot the change to internalization. :)
Quote:
Dirty kobolds. Vile creatures. I would as soon bed a devil as I would to see a single of these vermin roam free. the sorcerer thinks to herself as she feels the wisps of poison start to coalesce in her hand.
Information about the spell you are casting in red font. I also try to include a link to the spell in the post, but I don't ask you to do that if you don't want. Just a quirk of mine so I can get to the spell details quicker.
Quote:
Casting poison spray. DC13 Con save or take damage.
Anything out of character is posted using the OOC tags.
Quote:
OOC:
The barbarian really hates kobolds. I'm not sure if this would give him any kind of advantage on the strike? Are there any other rolls you want to see?
DM Information I try to post in this color.
Quote:
Feel free to roll a Nature check to learn more about Kobold lighting preferences. Billy, do so at advantage because your mom is a kobold.

If you have any other suggestions or things you think make sense, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'll leave this thread unlocked so we can capture/communicate that all here, but I'll update this post with anything we agree upon. :)

Perfect! Thanks for the clarification, I like being on the same page as everyone as far as formatting.

I have one to add for Awakened Mind (can also be used for the message or sending spell):
Mix between internal thoughts and talking, sent as a note if you want to limit the ones that hear it.

note=sorcerer "Kind of odd that billy's mom is a kobold huh?" .endnote

@HypCo - Absolutely. I was using Bold Green Italics in a different game for the same kind of thing (telepathic communication). Just something to make it stand apart from normal thought and normal speech.

Would it be easier if it were in a different color from green? *shrugs*. With a moment of contextual/supporting text entry alongside it, the message should be clear.

"Does this work?" I just went with green because it deals with thoughts in a way.
Edit: Nope, "light green" doesn't work. Edit2: No space. Edit3: Color test. Edit4: ew.

Multi-word colors you have to remove the spaces. So light green becomes lightgreen, dark red becomes darkred

How about grey?
