What's in your Avatar?

Thought this would be jolly appropriate, a place to declare what is the meaning of your avatar, let me start...

This ancient one reflects that I am an ancient gamer. I also played a whacked drunken master with him in the early pbp years. It's just a casual and lighthearted way of all these new companions and fellowships to know that you are dealing with someone that hid from the 1980's in a D&D boxed set. There hoping that the Russians would press the button and thus condemned to play Gamma World for generations to come!

You're right, Matt, it is a cool image! I like this thread!

When I'm not stalking these forums I am a chef running my own cake business. We like making geeky cakes. Here's a D&D-themed one, and here's another. :-) That's where the beholder avatar is from.

Edited to fix wonky links.

As much as I love being on my computer and gaming, I have a greater love for being in the mountains. The sense of wilderness and exploration and wonder that I encounter on every hike is a source of inspiration for my gameplay. I found the basic emblem on the web somewhere and tweaked it.

Mine is my favorite fictional character.

"My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. I'm a wizard. I work out of an office in midtown Chicago. As far as I know, I'm the only openly practicing professional wizard in the country. You can find me in the yellow pages, under "Wizards." Believe it or not, I'm the only one there."

I'm a forever DM in most of my RL games, so I thought something suitably DMy would work, and I'm always drawn to the sinister hooded types personally...

One of my favorite games growing up :)

Mine just struck me as a cute image. It works on a few levels, but the book and quill turned into a tabard seemed an appropriate mascot for a gaming situation.

Also, Jabes...those cakes are beyond cool.

I had no avatar for months before realising I was the only one who didn't .. So I picked a transmutation circle from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, a show that I started watching years ago but only recently got around to finishing. No special significance, just liked how it looked!

My picture is of Volibear: The Thunder's Roar. He's a LoL Champion, and a pretty awesome one at that if you like armored bears. Which I do, a lot. He's also a fair bit like me personality-wise, and he's really powerful. I was also in a sort of homemade RPG at the time I found GP in which we picked characters from popular media as our characters, and I was Volibear in that, so when I came here I just kept it. He's also my favorite League champion, though Nocturne is a close second.

Voli used to be my go to! I'm definitely a support player, with top being second I'd say, and back when Voli was an effective tanky fighter top, I loved him. I don't think he fills that role very well anymore, unfortunately, but I still play him in the right team comp.

My avatar is from when SW:The Old Republic came out on PC a few years back. My youngest son (then around 3) had a hooded bathrobe that was black that made him look like a little Sith. We were playing through one of the Sith character stories together and I took this photo on my phone. Notice the lightsaber resting casually on the desk...

Since I was focused originally on FFG Star Wars games, I thought this would be thematically appropriate. Where it's hideously inappropriate (e.g. Middle Earth) I've adopted a 'player' known as Falryx for the game where I use a different avatar. :)

That's brilliant!

Have been thinking of changing mine for something generic, since I'm now running a Star Trek game, but I'll just steal your technique there and make a generic GM character that's more appropriate :)

My avatar is me with a Viking helmet I got from one of the players in my real-life group :D Ran it through an iPhone app called Prisma for artistic effect.

At the Gaming table when you're face to face there are four games during a session, the system, the story, the vibe of the table, and the social interactions between players (not characters).

I think Deadpool's frame of mind of knowing everything going on in his reality and the meta and talking to himself embodies how I look at gaming in a face to face group. (Plus I like Deadpool). I could go into what I mean by the four games but that's pretty meta in and of itself.

I feel exactly the same. I get a lot of inspiration while hiking. Did the upper section of the PCT two years ago, got a national parks pass last summer and hit Yosemite, Badlands, Mammoth and Arches. This summer I plan on exploring more of the parks in Utah before my pass expires. I always thought it would be a blast to do a weekend hike-in camp and play a game based on the hike/environment.

Jabes cakes and Cancerman's paintings look freaking great.

My avatar is a random old school deity pic from the internet. I have been yearning for old school art these days so I tend to use those types of images for my avatars.

I am a digital artist by trade but have rekindled my love of all things analog. In my Seafra game I use many of my ink and pen drawings as images. Here is one of my drawings

I am a rabbit who rides a snail with the head of a monk. I couldn't believe my luck when I stumbled across this image.

Really, I just like the playfulness of the image. Medieval monks drew rabbits committing violent acts on humans into the margins of manuscripts as a sort of world turned upside down inversion. The images revealed the cowardice of the person getting pummeled by the rabbits.

Mine's a picture I took while out on a photo hike. The crow was flying into a tree and it was overcast but still bright so you cant see any detail on the crow except the outline. Still one of my favorite photos to date.

Mine is a picture of me at Machu Picchu, Peru.

I chose this Avatar because I am running X1: Isle of Dread, which is a D&D wilderness survival game in the jungle. My only experience surviving in the jungle was when I walked Peru's Inca Trail with my wife in 2009 and got really sick. I couldn't eat for four days, and had to walk all day for miles up steep mountain trails. By the end, I was a little loopy and had a really beautiful experience in the lost city that deeply affected me for the better. On the flight home, the sickness turned out to be viral, and it attack my heart and almost killed me. It was one of those "Is there a doctor on the plane" moments you see in movies. Fortunately for me, there were two cardiologists who were celebrated experts in their fields returning to Canada from a conference! I rolled a few more 20's and came out fine on the other side.

I figure walking through a jungle, battling starvation, and nearly dying pretty much sums up the Isle of Dread!

My avatar is me!

In the early '90s I did model photography for an artist friend of mine. He did a number of full-page B&W drawings for the first Vampire: The Masquerade, including one of me in a cemetery. My copy of the book is in a box somewhere, so I have no idea which vampire I'm supposed to represent. The drawing got taken out in a later edition (along with my photo credit) for some reason. I got drunk at GenCon one year and badgered the poor guy at the White Wolf booth wanting to know why I was no longer in the book.

Ok, I'll resurrect this thread with the story...

I was invited to play in a high-level Pathfinder game and created a Human Paladin with such a kick-ass backstory that the DM let me have an adult Silver Dragon as a Paladin Mount/Cohort (it's ok, you can be jealous... we all know that Paizo absolutely hates the idea of anyone riding a dragon so they totally made it RAW impossible for it to happen by twisting the "balanced" designs like turdballs).

The introduction of the two characters (the Paladin and the woman's form that the Dragon usually wore when not "working") was so well crafted by both me and the DM that the players still cheer about it years later. Even the folks who care about "game balance" accepted the team because it was played so well.

Fell in love with the circumstance, so I have a thing for dragons...

Keleth's note: Just a reminder, the public forums are PG-13, so just be mindful of the language used :)

Edit: Ugh... I'll make a pass over all my posts to clean things up. Apologies

My avatar is about a decade old, drawn by another artist friend of mine back when orly owls were a meme and she was drawing variations of our signature characters in similar poses. I've kept it for most places I go to since.
