Gauging Interest: Modern Day Chicago, CoC 6e

I'm toying around with the idea of running a Call of Cthulhu 6e game set in present day Chicago. The storyline would be borrowed somewhat from the Arkham Horror Card Game that was recently released by Fantasy Flight games.

Drop a note on this thread if you have some interest.

I have no experience in Call of Cthulhu, is there anywhere I can learn about the edition you'll be running?

Chaosium has the 7e quickstart rules. I think it would be easy enough to talk you through the differences during the game for 6e

I'd love to get in on a CoC game, but I'd have to use the 7e quickstart too.

Well, I've been wanting to try a modern setting game for a bit, so if you need a spot filler and don't mind the lack of knowledge, I'd gladly fill it but I won't be offended if you'd prefer more experienced players over me.

I found the quickstart for the 6e rules as well. I'd prefer to use those as I don't have 7e.

Yay for more Cthulhu! I have two running so not sure I have the sanity to jump in but good luck with it!

I've had good success with 2 or 3 players for CoC games. Hypco and Bull, go ahead and create a character and we'll take a third if someone expresses interest. Please use the 6e rules that I posted above. Remember, modern day Chicago. Pick any profession that you'd like and I'll sort out the introduction based upon what you come up with.

And do we use the 7e character sheet or custom? Or am I missing the 6e one?
Dec 20, 2016 8:43 pm
The biggest difference in character sheet seems to be the Stats being % based in 7e and 3d6 in 6e. I'll take a look between the two and see if it will fit the bill. We can also use a mix between the two if need be. Custom would be a pain to have to write out all of the skills.
Dec 20, 2016 9:26 pm
Where do you want us to roll the stats?
Dec 20, 2016 9:27 pm
You can roll them in this thread.

Adjusted the permissions of this thread to allow rolling :)

Thanks Naatkinson.

Rolls

STR/CON/DEX/APP/POW - (3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6)

3d6 : (113) = 5

3d6 : (426) = 12

3d6 : (514) = 10

3d6 : (513) = 9

3d6 : (352) = 10

SIZ/INT - (2d6+6)

(45) + 6 = 15

EDU - (3d6+3)

(525) + 3 = 15

Forgot 1 SIZ/INT - (2d6+6)

(24) + 6 = 12

Here's mine, waiting for a little more info about the campaign before I decide on the rest.

Edit: Should be in the library now

Since Arjen isn't the/a GM, BullOctorok, you have to add the character to the library in order for him to see it.

I just made the game thread and invited you both.
Dec 22, 2016 4:14 am
I'd be interested in playing.
Dec 22, 2016 12:48 pm
If you could use a fourth, count me in. I have the 7e books, but there is a conversion to/from 6e included so should be able to figure it out (with the quickstart rules).

I'm going to keep the game at three for now. Merlin, you were the first to respond so go ahead and set up a character or pass to Qralloq.

Thank you both for the interest.

Ok rolling character... but I don't have high hopes because I always think the auto die roller rolls low.
OOC:
Wow! That almost perfectly fits my character concept.

Is there a Gamer's Plane character sheet? I just noticed the CoC d20 looks like a DandD character sheet. Should we use 7e?

Crystal Parks - TV Celebrity
Crystal Parks is well known in Chicago, because she is a presenter/ interviewer on the local TV station. Although diminutive, she is stunningly attractive, and very talkative... traits you would expect from a TV presenter. Crystal has proved herself to be very knowledgeable about current affairs, and often challenges guests with insightful questions, and intelligent cross examination. Her success has also been due to her other talents that were nurtured in the drama academy at DePaul University, recognized as being one of the best in the USA. She can sing and dance, and often appears on entertainment shows in the evening TV schedule.

However, despite her prominence in the public eye, Crystal does have a secret. Her inquisitive mind, and her awareness of current affairs has peaked her curiosity about the occult. From time to time strange articles appear that catch her eye, and she spends her spare time researching these strange phenomena...

It looks like we can use the 7e sheet and fill in the 6e results without too much trouble.

I like the character concept! I'll look to get the game started on Sunday at some point when I have the time.

I read through the introduction and the little Dutch boy story sparked an interest. I've never played before, but wouldn't mind if you want another player. :)
