Character Generation

Jan 4, 2017 9:31 pm
Stats: 4d6 drop Low or 2d6+6. Reroll all 1s. If you prefer less RNG, feel free to use the following "good" array (16, 14, 12, 11, 10, 10). You can choose to take the array after rolling, if you'd like.

Level: Start at level 1

Races: PHB Only.

Classes: No restriction.

Character Options (Spells, features, feats, whatever): Any WotC material including UA.

Leveling: Milestone Based

HP: Max first, Roll or PHB values, whichever is highest.

Alignment: Non-Evil. You're all the good guys.

I would prefer fleshed out backgrounds, as they will be coming into play. Once we get all the players in, I'll set a forum up for each of you and we can hash out things like Discoveries, relationships/connections to NPCs, things like that in there.

Go ahead and reroll that 1 Tookie.
Jan 4, 2017 11:18 pm
Quick question. Is this going to be more Roleplay based, or combat. That'll be my deciding factor for a character.
Jan 4, 2017 11:22 pm
Should be balanced. There will definitely be combat but you are fighting against tyranny. There will be a fair amount of social challenge as well.
Jan 5, 2017 12:14 am
Thinking of making a ranger, rolling scores up in a bit.
Jan 5, 2017 12:39 am
I'm thinking Warlock should be fun. Common man makes deal with the Great Old One to gain the power to aid the people.

Go ahead and reroll the stats. Reroll Aces is poorly labeled. It's more appropriately "Explode on Highest" not "Reroll and Replace Ones". Confusing as crud, I know.

Jan 5, 2017 3:04 am
Yay barbarians! I love them.
Jan 5, 2017 3:22 am
I think rather than make a ranger I'll go fighter, thinking more of a battle coordinator.
Jan 5, 2017 3:32 am
Good deal! What we're looking at so far is:

Paladin
Ranger
Barbarian
Fighter (Maybe, possibly)
Warlock

All in all, pretty solid concept. I look forward to all of your submissions.

Something to bear in mind for your character creation: All of you are in the village of Willowdark (circled in red below). You've been sent as part of your affiliation with a group of freedom fighters in Telluria. You may not be from that kingdom, the organization you are part of crosses kingdom boundaries. However, you are there as a team on a mission, but the details of the mission you don't know yet.

Jan 5, 2017 4:58 am
Woohoo! Forgot to ask- can I go with one of the UA primal paths? Specifically looking at Path of the Storm Herald.
Jan 5, 2017 5:02 am
Of course! Are you thinking you hail from Brevia or that far northern village in Valonois? Or are you a Tellurian from the desert town/villages along the southern coast?
Jan 5, 2017 7:24 am
Character finalized/submitted!
Jan 5, 2017 12:02 pm
I'm sorry I haven't submitted yet, yesterday and today's really busy for me, but I shoukd have the character by tonight.
Jan 5, 2017 12:18 pm
Looks good for the most part Tookie. One of your 12s should be a 13. Also, your rapiers should be a +6 to hit (assuming you are using the finesse property with that high a Dex). Also the damage should be +4 if you are going that route (on the main hand strike at least).

Other than that, looks good to go.
Jan 5, 2017 12:23 pm
Valonois might fit my character concept best.
Jan 5, 2017 1:14 pm
That works for me. :)

Im_That_0n3_Guy, please list out your spell choices. Other than that, it looks good at first glance.
Jan 5, 2017 3:18 pm
Wow... I chose a spellcaster, and forgot I could pick spells. My apologies, I'll get on it.
Jan 5, 2017 3:21 pm
:D It's all good! I do the same thing a lot.
Jan 5, 2017 3:23 pm
Haha, at least Im not alone. Is my backstory okay by the way?
Jan 5, 2017 3:26 pm
I just sent you a note in your personal forum about it. We'll hash it out there. :D
Jan 5, 2017 4:00 pm
Is my backstory ok?
Jan 5, 2017 4:09 pm
Heh, Sorry; I mixed up the fighting style vs. feat for two weapon... should be all straightened out now. Corrected to-hit and damage bonus, AC went up by one for the feat. Backstory will be ready this evening.
Jan 5, 2017 4:37 pm
thatguy2, your backstory seems fine, with the minor discussion we already had regarding your current company.

Tookie, it all looks good.
Jan 6, 2017 1:50 am
Hey guys! Just jumped in. I'm looking at the lineup and while it looks a little loose on the magic end, I'm more of a Muggle man myself so I think I'm going to go for a monk. If its OK, Drama, I'll go for UA Kensei tradition if/when we hit level 3; either way, this guy is going to be seriously martially oriented.
@Drama, can we choose to go the "good" way after rolling, or does rolling seal our fate?
Jan 6, 2017 1:59 am
Feel free to roll and say "bah, I hate you RNG" and take the array later. My goal here is to have powerful heroes, because the enemies you face will not be strawmen. :D

Also, I figure adding a 6th gives us some flex so if people have to drop out for whatever reason (pox, plague, grandma on fire, etc), we'll still have a core group. It also opens up the possibility to have your crew do pincer maneuvers. :D
Jan 6, 2017 2:03 am
Awesome. I'll roll away then; rerolling 1s, correct? I wish I could use some rolls I just got for battling NPCs I'm using in my game... I had a monk roll a nat 18 in stats; popped that boy in Dexterity and he's a killing machine now. Also has 22 HP and a possible temporary AC of 19 at level 3... really amazing. Let's hope I do close to as well here.
EDIT:
Yes! Amazing. My rolls are:
17, 16, 16, 14, 13, 11
I'll start work on a character right away. @Drama? What country would be good for having an Asian-type contingency that would have warrior monks? Preferably of a respectable size (so my guy isn't the only one of his kind)
OOC:
Quick Question - I got one 1 total; it was the lowest so I dropped it without rerolling. Could I reroll it, or do I leave it dropped?

You can reroll the 1 if you'd like. If it comes up a 3 or better, you win more points!

Brevia would be your best bet. While they don't have an Asian contingent, so to speak, as the seat of the Empire, and home to the tallest peaks in the world, there are numerous sanctuary temples dedicated to the various facets of The Other, the multi-faceted force that serves as a deity to all. Because of the multi-faceted nature of The Other, there are several paths available to the warrior monk orders that have formed throughout Delmarra.
Jan 6, 2017 2:46 am
Awesome. Could I have more info on The Light? Depending on what its like, Kaio will most likely be a follower of the Rigid.

Rolls

Stat Reroll - (1d4)

(2) = 2

Jan 6, 2017 2:53 am
Sure. The Light is an embodiment of the good and the righteous in the world. Much like Pelor of Greyhawk, with a touch of St. Cuthbert. Cutherbertines would also find solace in The Rigid.

Additionally, if you want to explore a different facet, let me know. The glorious thing about a mutlifaceted entityless entity is that we can make crud up as we see fit!
Jan 6, 2017 3:06 am
Should I do that in my personal feed?
Jan 6, 2017 3:07 am
Let me actually put up a world building forum where we can all work collaboratively on fleshing the world out with things like the facets, geographic things, etc.
Jan 6, 2017 3:10 am
FYI I can see CouchLord's forum. Not sure if that was intentional or not...
Jan 6, 2017 3:11 am
Gah. I'll go take a look.
Jan 6, 2017 3:12 am
Take a look now Moofs?
Jan 7, 2017 12:34 am
Are we playing feats?
Jan 7, 2017 1:00 am
Also, how are we doing initial gear?
Jan 7, 2017 1:06 am
I'm down for feats (both variant human and in lieu of ASI in your class tree). You get the gear granted by background and class as standard. There will be some extra stuff you get near to the beginning of the adventure as befits your relatively new position as members of the freedom fighters.
Jan 7, 2017 1:08 am
Could I sell some of it instead? The Kensei path grants proficiency with extra weapons, and I would prefer to take twin longswords and virtually nothing else. This holds true to his devotion to weapons and battle and his need and desire for little else.
Jan 7, 2017 1:16 am
Not at the outset, since you are starting at level 1. As you don't get your pathway until level 3, you wouldn't have the extra proficiencies until later.

Now, that said, as a monk you don't really start with much anyway. What background were you considering? Acolyte?
Jan 7, 2017 1:20 am
*shakes head*
I'm sorry, my bad. What am I thinking? OK, I'll take the basic then.
Possibly; could I mix Acolyte and Soldier somehow?
Jan 7, 2017 1:27 am
Sure. What're you thinking? I didn't find anything (in an admittedly cursory search) online that seemed to fit the bill.
Jan 7, 2017 1:42 am
Actually, I think I'm going to go criminal. I'm thinking an assassin who was trained high in the mountains of his homeland, then went down into the world to wreak his grim work on the world, ridding it slowly of those who he believes unworthy of life. He is good, but he is chaotic - he cares little for the expectations of the world around him, rather relying on his own finely tuned moral compass. However, he has found ways to obey the letter rather than the spirit of his own moral code, which makes for an interesting dynamic.
Eventually, he will leave this life behind (mostly) for the path of the Kensei, conveniently around 3rd level (assuming we reach that level? How high is this supposed to go?)
Would there be an "Assassin's Creed" he could be a part of? It'd make it interesting if he were a member of a fairly well-known assassin's group. I have a faction in my world known as the White Blades; is there a Delmarrean equivalent?
Last edited January 7, 2017 1:44 am
Jan 7, 2017 1:45 am
That works for me. I usually don't start off with expectations of target levels. As the world is still new, there is much that can be developed, up to and including 20th level play if we so desire it. We shall see where the fickle rolls of the dice take us.
Jan 7, 2017 1:46 am
Amazing! Did you see my note about a faction? Sorry, I think I added it after you had already posted the above.
Jan 7, 2017 2:29 am
There are a few factions like that. In fact, the group that you are all a part of contracts with them frequently ;).

The three big ones are The Dawn's Spear, The Forest Lords, and The Grains of Sand. These are the only three groups that would be considered "assassin's" guilds of a sort. There are numerous thieves guilds throughout the world that have their own assassins on retainer, of course. But these three are the well-known groups.

The Dawn's Spear
A group of assassins in service to the Empress herself. They serve the Gilded Throne and are trained to that position from birth. All of them are removed from their parents upon birth to be raised by Bloodflower retainers in the Glorious Temple of Light. They are the anomaly within worshipers of the Light facet. They balance a pure faith in Light while courting the Dark. The Empress deploys them at will to ensure that the empire is kept safe. Needless to say, they've been a bit busy as of late.

The Forest Lords
A group of primarily Wood Elves from Telluria. They are the reason The Court of the Three Lords isn't located IN the Eastern Copse. They typically operate for hire to oppose those that would harm Delmarra. They are not a massive organization, but they are effective. They are known in particular for their habit of leaving their quarries with a mouthful of acorns and a cluster of dead leaves on their faces.

The Grains of Sand
This group operates on the belief that a true assassin is like a grain of sand. They blend in perfectly and are indistinguishable from anyone else around them. However, when placed in a sensitive area, they can cause significant damage. While they operate primarily along the desert coastline of both Telluria and Markindale, their services are routinely pulled across kingdom borders because of how easily they blend. They are the most numerous of the major assassin groups and the most likely to seek out members from other areas of the world other than their base of operations. They are odd in that everyone knows OF them, and knows generally how to reach them. However, no one claims to know an ACTUAL Sander.

20th level? That would be awesome. I'm honestly getting tired of always just playing the basics. Would love to see my character grow that far.
Jan 7, 2017 3:26 am
I so agree, @That. This place is awesome, but never getting above level 10 or so is a little sad. Let's do it then!
Jan 7, 2017 6:07 pm

I fully support this idea.

@Drama: I updated my character sheet with the Level 1 Paladin spell list because I had some free time. I'm fully aware I do not have access to these yet.
Jan 7, 2017 6:48 pm
Awesome Tookie. :) And yes, a high level campaign would rock
Jan 7, 2017 6:57 pm
I've seen a few people do that, but it's not very common.
Jan 7, 2017 7:07 pm
I'd absolutely be on board for a high-level game. I don't know if I've ever gotten a character above level 8.
Jan 7, 2017 7:08 pm
Wait, are we going to start this game at a higher level, or are we just speculating that we would like one?
Jan 7, 2017 7:20 pm
Just speculating.
Jan 7, 2017 7:23 pm
Cool. I would be totally down for a high-level campaign, though I think I'd still prefer to actually make it to the big two-zero from ground zero.
Jan 7, 2017 7:25 pm
Yeah, for this one I'd like to start low and reach high. I'd be willing to grab a module or something for a higher level one though, if people wanted. Mebbe.

Sep 1, 2017 5:16 pm
14, 17, 18, 15, 10, 18. Not bad actually! That 6th stat is awesome! What is needed in the party?
Sep 1, 2017 5:35 pm
That is one hell of a good array.

Right now for the active folks we have a paladin that runs around with two swords, a warlock that likes to eldritch blast anything he can find in the face, and a ranger focusing on his longbow.

We've got a distinct lack of support and restorative magics as well as a little weak in the "up in their face" meatshield kind of activity. That being said, you can play whatever you'd like. I will be building encounters and such based on what all you guys are rather than around "hey, we have a cleric, fighter, rogue, and wizard" model.
Sep 1, 2017 5:46 pm
Yeah, reading up on the story, it sounds like a pure fighter is needed. I'm thinking Half-Orc fighter champion, who also dual wields two swords. I'd be a DPS/Tank! As a champion, I'd crit with both 19's and 20's, and when I crit, I roll extra damage due to being a Half-Orc. I'm thinking dual wielding because that doubles my chances at critting (fighting style would be 2 weapon fighting) and at level 4, I'm thinking taking the Dual Wielding feat? I'd be able to dual wield Longswords, and deal a d8 of damage, rather than a d6.
Sep 1, 2017 5:56 pm
That sounds good across the whole of it. :)
Sep 1, 2017 6:09 pm
Thanks!
I'll get to work :)
Sep 1, 2017 6:13 pm
Cool. Once you get the character created, go back to the Game Details page and submit them there. I'll approve from there as well. You can roll in here for your level 2 and 3 HP if you'd like. At a minimum, you get 6+Constitution Modifier. So if you roll less than 6, take the 6. :)
Sep 1, 2017 6:19 pm
The more swords and hit points, the better, as far as I'm concerned (but I'm just a stabhappy dual weild Paladin so what do I know). Welcome aboard!
