As the sun rises the next morning the extent of the damage caused by the overnight raid comes into clear view. Just about every dwelling in the town of Greenest has been burned, looted, or both. Corpses of those who couldn't take refuge in the keep are found lying in the streets and alleyways.

A grim and determined Governor Nighthill approaches you with a proposal. "I need to know why! Why were we targeted? For what purpose?" His voice rising in pitch and his face burning red with rage he pauses momentarily and takes a few deep breaths. "This wasn't the work of a mere raiding party, this was something else. I need information, I need to know if this is going to happen again."

With that he offers each of your 250GP to follow these raiders back to their camps and determine as much information about them as possible. "They left towards the southeast and their trail should be easy to follow, considering their numbers. If you're willing to take on this task, we will provide what provisions we can in order to help."
OOC:
If you offer your services the townspeople will provide ammunition for bows and slings and non-magical weapons of your choosing. Three potions of healing will be offered as well.

Nighthill wants to know the following information:

Where the camp is sited.
How many raiders there are.
Who there leaders are.
Motivations for their attacks.
What their next target might be.
Jan 9, 2017 2:22 am
Ygritte will step forward gingerly. She walks steadily if slowly, attempting to show no signs of the injury she took.

She nods at Nighthill. "My sword, my life, my faith, are at your service." She kisses her medallion to Bahamut and whispers. "Guide me this day, o great one. Our work continues. I won't let you down again."
Jan 9, 2017 8:39 am
Triana now fully rested stepped forwards "These are also things I wish to uncover. I would also wish to see justice done and the innocent avenged friend or otherwise." Triana glanced at the Paladin the time would ome that she would seek out this woman's story. She had alrtheard scattered tales of the Paladin Yrgrittes defence at the end. It was certainly a puzzle why she had not assisted before.

She turns as Yrgritte finishes her prayer "Good to meet one of high morals, my name is Triana, bard, performer and swordswoman".
Jan 10, 2017 12:46 am
Ygritte says only, "Well met, Triana. I am Ygritte Tarot, sword of Bahamut." Ygritte is well thewed, a strong woman with a daring eye. Her armor and weapons are of sufficient quality, but not overly well kept.
Jan 10, 2017 12:55 am
Tayleron walks out from the inside rooms. "Triana, glad to see you again. How many reached safety? I'm afraid that Mogguth didn't survive the encounter. May Sylvanus take her into the green forest." He pauses a moment when he sees the warrior. "We've not met. I'm Tayleron."

Triana turned to Tayleron as he emerged "I was only able to get one group to the keep, on my way back I was not so lucky and was overwhelmed. To be honest I'm lucky to be alive. I got back here, I believe after the raiders had decided to end the raid."
Jan 10, 2017 10:18 pm
"It is good to meet you, Triana," Kettyr says. "My name is Kettyr, from the village of Janden. I am relieved to hear you made it. I arrived after much of the commotion and spent the evening aiding a family with finding their child. It is my hope that I can be of assistance in tracking down these raiders, if you all will have me."
Jan 12, 2017 12:28 pm
"Any and all help is welcome. These are bad times that we are facing. More friends to help ward off danger is better." Tayleron eyes the two newcomers while he refills his quiver with arrows.
OOC:
Was that 3 potions total or 3 each?

As you gather your supplies and prepare to set off a young man walks up to you, limping heavily on his bandaged left leg.

"I hear that you intend to follow the raiders and find where they've gone. I'd like nothing better than to come with you, but in this condition, I'd just slow you down. In the midst of this tragedy, there's no reason you would have heard about the fate of my master, Leosin Erlanthar, but it's important that you know. He is a monk from Berdusk. He disappeared last night after we fought a particularly savage battle against the raiders. A few others and I fought our way to the keep, barely. Leosin didn't make it at all. We went back this morning to look for him, but all we found was his broken staff and choker, which he always wore."

Pausing for a moment the man shifts his weight to his bad leg as if to test his wound. He let's out a slight grimace and disappointedly shakes his head.

"Anyway, Leosin has been investigating these raiders for months. I fear that he may have tried to infiltrate their group when they retreated, or worse, was captured and carried away as their prisoner. No one understands these bandits better than he, and his knowledge will be invaluable against them. When you find their camp please look for any sign that Leosin is there. One of my brothers has already departed for Berdusk to bring help, but it will be many days before it arrives. Anything you can do before then would be a godsend."

The young man introduces himself as Nesim Waladra.
OOC:
Three total potions. I ain't that nice of a GM! :-)
Jan 13, 2017 1:09 am
Ygritte holds her hand on her pommel as the young man addresses them. When he appears to be finished, she says, "Could you describe this man for us, in case we see him from a distance?"
Jan 13, 2017 2:50 am
Nesim describes the missing monk as an elf with dark hair which he wears parted to one side. He also has a goatee and "if it weren't for his ears you'd have a hard time telling that he's an elf."
Jan 13, 2017 3:57 pm
OOC:
When you says monk is that warrior monk or scholar monk?
Tayleron looks at Nesim with a grim expression. "We are heading into the mouth of danger but we will keep an eye out for this person. May the gods grant us luck and help to find him alive and well."
Jan 13, 2017 11:38 pm
OOC:
I think it's safe to assume warrior monk as Nesim had mentioned the group engaging in battle with the raiders.

If there are no other questions for Nesim we'll move this little party along.
Jan 14, 2017 1:48 am
OOC:
No more questions from Ygritte.
Jan 14, 2017 2:18 am
Kettyr flinches at Nesim's desperation to find his master. It reminds him of his academy days, and it makes him want to find Leosin even more.

"I am ready to go now," Kettyr says, motivated adrenaline flowing through his veins. He has no problem disregarding any more preparatory steps. "Need we delay?"
Jan 14, 2017 7:36 am
Triana considered the information they had been handed and made a mental note of it. "I think it is best that we make haste but we should be careful. That dragon may still be with them."
Jan 14, 2017 7:29 pm
Fully stocked and eager to get on with the task at hand you leave Greenest and head southeast along the same trail that the raiders had taken the night before. It's obvious from the beginning that you'll have absolutely no problem following the trail. The raiders have trampled a wide swath of grass through the rolling grasslands and although it's impossible to get a precise number it obvious that the ones that you saw were but a small portion of the total force.

The trail leads south about twelve miles, to a more rugged region where steep sided, rocky plateaus replace the gently rolling grasslands. The land between the plateaus is largely flat, broken only by outcroppings and wandering streams in steep sided gullies.

In the distance, just over some hills, the smoke from some sort of fire is clearly visible.
Jan 15, 2017 1:28 am
Ygritte scans the area for scouts. "Any of you sneaky? I'm pretty direct, even without the heavy armor."
Jan 16, 2017 12:04 am
Trying not to climb the hill so high as to be seen, Kettyr watches the smoke and inches closer, trying to listen for voices...

Listening for voices (Perception) - (1d20+4)

Jan 16, 2017 12:14 am
Kettyr can hear several distinct voices in the distance, catching an occasional word here and there, but can not make out what is being said.
OOC:
You may just have to crest the hill in order to hear what is being said. Whoever chooses to do so will need to give me a stealth roll.
Jan 18, 2017 2:23 pm
Using his mask of the wild, Tayleron lashes some grasses to himself as camouflage. He then attempts to crest the hill remaining prone to avoid detection. Then he looks toward the smoke and voices.
OOC:
Used stealth to hide

Down in a low spot between the hills are a group of four humans and eight kobolds standing near a fire. It appears that the humans and kobolds distrust each other and are bickering a bit back and forth on the proper preparation of prairie hens and their respective cuts from last night's raid. The human are unarmed, their weapons placed against a rock, out of easy reach. The kobolds, however, are armed, their weapons hanging from their belts.
Jan 20, 2017 12:57 am
Tayleron slips back to the group. As he passes Kettyr he taps his shoulder and motions to the others. "There are four humans and eight kobolds. They are distrustful of one another. Arguing over spoils and how to cook some game birds. It would be to our advantage if we could somehow get them fighting one another." With that brief statement he looks around and waits for some ideas from the others.
Jan 20, 2017 2:42 am
Ygritte harumpfs. "A misdirection? Or the placement of something worth fighting over?" She looks at the others and shrugs. "Nothing I have seems worth anything."
Jan 20, 2017 8:23 am
Triana considered the options at hand, "Perhaps of anyone had anything iffy we could soip something into their pot?"
Jan 21, 2017 12:26 am
"What if I set fire to their food and supplies?" Kettyr asks, clutching his spellbook with a wicked smile on his face. Fire bolt, that's all it would take. "It will seem as if the campfire spread."
Jan 22, 2017 2:33 am
"That's could work. It's not flashy and liable to give away our position is it?" Tayleron rubs a hand across the back of his neck. It's obvious that he is resisting the urge to just charge into the kobolds group.
Jan 22, 2017 3:03 pm
"I am quite skilled," Kettyr says, stepping forward.

He moves his hands in the somatic sign of Fire Bolt, says his incantation, and releases the spell toward the campfire.

Rolls

Firebolt (No damage, not hitting anyone) - (1d20+4)

(19) + 4 = 23

Jan 22, 2017 3:41 pm
Ygritte quietly draws her sword and prepares to charge once the evil doers have wounded themselves.
Jan 24, 2017 12:46 am
The bolt slams into the fire, sending hot embers and flames out in all directions. The two humans closest to the fire jump back, the bottom of their robes now aflame. The spectacle of the two frantically jumping around and swatting at their flaming clothing is more than enough to elicit high pitched cackling from the assembled kobolds.

Insults are quickly hurled back and forth between the two groups and things escalate. Punches are thrown, kobolds are kicked, thighs are bitten. It's an all out brawl!
OOC:
Everyone was kung fu fighting! Those kicks were fast as lightning!

Sorry... So all of the baddies are having at it!
Jan 26, 2017 11:26 pm
Tayleron readies an arrow and watches the fighting. Still restraining himself from firing on the hated kobolds.
Jan 31, 2017 2:00 am
"When do we want to crash in there and finish them off?" She pauses, "Or we could just pick them off from here."
Jan 31, 2017 8:56 am
"I suggest we strike while we have the chance perhaps just the Kobolds I can bluff our way in."
Jan 31, 2017 11:08 am
Having waited as long as he possibly could Tayleron nocks an arrow and let's fly at one of the kobolds."Suffer not, the evil to thrive!"

OOC:
You can all have an action before the brawling brawlers will react.
Feb 1, 2017 12:30 am
Ygritte regrets not drawing her bow, and instinctually releases instead an incantation. "Bal mae intra sune!" Crackling energy flies from her outstretched fingers to strike at a kobold.
[ +- ] Eldritch Blast

Eldritch Blast - (1d20+4, 1d10)

1d20+4 : (15) + 4 = 19

1d10 : (5) = 5

Feb 2, 2017 3:54 am
The brawling participants don't seem to notice the Tayleron's arrow as it zips past the melee. Ygritte's blast of energy, however, does catch the attention of everyone involved as one of the kobolds cries out in pain and drops to the ground.
OOC:
Kettyr and Triana can take actions still.
Feb 3, 2017 3:31 pm
Triana sighs and draws a knife she picks a target aims and tosses aiming for one of the surviving Kobolds. She looks to the others "leave the humans for now guys I can work with humans."
