Chapter 1: The Arrival

Jan 23, 2017 5:50 am
The Pyramid Desno is in the close distance. The Sand of the Desno desert is hot and the air is dry. The party is drenched in sweat and the sand has gotten in places that you didn't even know you had. You are being lead by Adofo a member of the Society of Historical Artifacts. He is rather small and weakly looking but is really smart. You are a few hours away from Reaching the Temple of Desno.

I tug on my wide brimmed hat and adjust the workaday linen scarf that acts as thin, precious protection against the punishing desert sun. Glancing up at my colleague, Dr. Adofo, I note his wearied, unsure steps - the Board of Governors really must start insisting on more field training as a required part of Society members' study, I think to myself.

Sighing, I quicken my pace to catch up with Adofo, as he looks about to misstep and fall, I extend a hand to grasp his arm, steadying him. "You all right there? We gotta get you out here in the sands and sun with me more often - toughen you up!" At this last teasing phrase, I give him a big wink and playfully punch him in the shoulder with my free hand.

"So, Why's the Society having us truck all the way out here anyways? Didn't they already send a team to research this temple sometime last year?"

I am standing outside with the other two and my spouse, a half-elf, sweat dripping down my face as I talk to them. 'What do we already know about the temple? And how far is it from here?" I then walk over to my husband Aerendyl and hug him goodbye.

Ah yes I am more of a indoor sturdier but you are right Dr. Krantz I should train the body a bit more. There has been studies that show there is a correlation between a strong body need a strong mind as well. I at least have the strong mind part Adofo chuckles They are sending us out because the last group to come back didn't come back all there if you know what I mean. Adofo looks to Paelias The Temple is about a half days walk via camel. As for what we know is very little beside the fact that the Hieroglyphics that we've managed to decipher is that it is the resting place of an ancient King Sati from the Year 15 or 5 B.M. Legend has it that King Sati is one of the first people to deal with magic but other than that we have no knowledge.
OOC:
The year 3587 A.M. B.M. stands for Before Magic. A.M. is After Magic

"The first to touch magic, that gives a very long time to master magic."
Jan 25, 2017 6:48 pm
Ah yes but I believe they tablet we have says he dies very young due to not fully understanding magic like we do. Apparently after his death the kingdom began to strain and it seems that not long after that many people died which is why the Dessert is such a great area for archeological findings. A man approaches you all with a group of camels and hands one to each of you. Well we better get going unless someone needs to pick something up before we leave but it must be done quick because at nightfall the desserts temperature drop to below freezing.

"Alright then. Let's go." I embrace my spouse Aerendyl and mount the camel.

(Nods head, and grins) Off we are.(mounts camel)

The party of 5 travels to the Pyramid in the Desno Dessert.
OOC:
If you would like to talk or do anything during the travels you may. If not I will be jumping the party to the time just before arriving at the pyramid in a few hours

So this tomb is of some ancient king who first used magic?"
Jan 29, 2017 7:36 am
That is correct. This is the first written moment that we know of that magic was used. But we aren't to sure were it originated from. We are hoping that whats inside may give us a clue as to where magic came from and why we are able to use it so easily today. Adofo says as you approach the Temple. You are first greeted by a pair of massive Obelisks signifying you are entering an ancient burial ground. There is many Pillars about some still up other broken down but all have been weathered by time. At the Front of the Temple are two Large Statues of sphinxes flanking the entrance while king or noble sits atop a throne right above the entrance door. We are here The Ancient Temple.

"Alright. We should be careful. Don't know if any traps are still active or not."
Jan 30, 2017 4:47 am
Agreed. I believe the switch is around here somewhere Adofo fumbles around feeling on the stone wall before finally pressing on the hidden switch on the sphinxes leg. The large stone door begins to tremble and shake. Dirt begins to fall as the door slides open. The light barely pierces the interior the air smells stale and cold.

We are currently just waiting for others to post as so they don't get too far behind. If no posting occurs from them I will move it forward in a couple hours.

As the group ventures forth into the darkness Adofo lights his torch. All around the walls seems to inch closer and closer given hardly any room to move. Finally it opens up to to a room two Anubis about 20ft in height seem to guard the door. Their carvings are lined with gold and their eye made of jewels. There long pointed sticks have silver blades that remain sharp. oh my what impressive craftsmanship. They look almost to be alive and ready to remove anyone who dares enters their kings tomb. Adofo laughs a bit under his breath or at least that's what the writing above the door says.

"We should be careful. You never know what sorts of damned traps will be in a tomb."
Feb 24, 2017 10:48 pm
Vadania cracks her knuckles and eyes the Anubis statues warily.

"I say we smash these statues before we try the door, just to be sure."

She prods one of the statues and considers how to best dismantle it.

Halvo holds up a torch to examine the jewel eyes of the jackal-headed statue on the left. "These are quite valuable, as archaeological pieces," the halfling says, "I don't think the Society would want us to destroy them - like the followers of his mother would. If they're magical and attack us, well, then I'm getting me one of those eyes."

Should I roll a perception/investigation check?
