Tolga McLain grew up watching holodramas of daring marines shooting their way on board enemy ships, taking no prisoners. She studied hard, learning how to use ground vehicles, studying electronic systems, repairing things, and most importantly how to survive on her own in the wild. As soon as she was able, she applied to the Marine Academy and was accepted. While there, she worked hard, studying like a rabid animal, although she did spend just as much effort partying with her classmates. In the end, she aced her classes and graduated with honors. Upon graduation, she accepted a commission as a Lieutenant in the Star Marines.

She served with distinction, not letting her exercises lapse. When she sat for her promotion boards, they saw fit to grant her a promotion to the rank of Captain.

Tolga stayed with her combat outfit, and once again was leading troops in combat. As they came over a rise, they realized their intelligence community had failed. They were overrun, and outgunned. Tolga sustained massive injury, injuring her to the point the service saw no need for her to remain. She was ejected from the service, with a conciliatory TAS membership document in hand, a letter recommending her to take classes, and a small stipend of Cr10,000. She took up that offer for schooling, and gained a little more education.

Tolga spends one last tour working on her technology, only to be stricken with a grave ageing crisis! Physically weak, she spent the last of her funds from her Star Marine days to pay for her treatment, restoring her physical self to functionality. When she took her leave of research, she was given a going away gift of Cr. 130,000 from the board of her hospital. Her notoriety saw her bumping elbows with the academically elite. As a final gift, they gave her a lab ship, paid in full!
