Isle of Dread is a top notch module from the past, one of my favorites as a DM, and definitely works within the Low Fantasy game setting. Best part is that I don't remember any specifics about it, so it'd be like new to me.

I have heard of it but have never played it. Sounds awesome! Let's do it!

So, we have 4 players that applied and all of their characters look awesome to me. Unless we have more people apply I'm thinking of letting all 4 players join unless you guys have any misgivings about anyone.

Jabes your characters look great ... which one do you prefer? Both are awesome in terms of story and RP potential. Here are your answers to your mechanics-focused inquiries:

For Kaxaon, I'm going to say no to your custom chain weapon as is, but we could do 1d8 bludgeoning with just Reach. That makes it a bludgeoning longsword that trades versatile for reach, which seems reasonable. Honestly, it is a tad bit stronger, but it won't break anything. If you want to do trip attacks, the Battle Master archetype has the appropriate mechanics to make that work. As you are probably aware, to dual-wield these weapons you'd need to take the Dual Wielder feat as the proposed weapons do not have the light property.

As for Jarveena, I didn't allow the Sharpshooter archetype for other folks so it would be a bit unfair to allow it for you now. I think you can create a solid archer that aligns with your concept without unearthed arcana material: steady aim is just 1/2 of the sharpshooter feat plus extra damage, so you can do just as well with Sharpshooter feat and the precise attack battle master maneuver, plus have 2 other maneuvers to add versatility. But, if you really feel the Sharpshooter archetype is essential, I'm willing to be persuaded if you lay it out for me.

1. Yes, everyone's character looks great! :-) Would be glad to have everyone on board! Honestly, I can't decide whether to play Kaxaon or Jarveena!

2. Kaxaon: Yeah I think I got my editions mixed up when I mentioned the Trip weapon property. In 5e anyone can attempt to Knock Prone, can they not? If I do end up playing Kaxaon I would be content with his chains being reach weapons dealing 1d8. Yes, I fully intend to take the Dual Wielder feat.

3. Jarveena: After studying the mechanics further I think Battlemaster would be more advantageous anyway. For one thing, Steady Aim is limited use, while the Sharpshooter feat's benefits are always on.

4. Full disclosure: I came up with the concepts for these two PC's for previous games that ended up being as short-lived as Vignette #1. But these are ideas I would really like to explore and so I'm taking them off the ahelf and dusting them off. I realize Jarveena's backstory ended with her being in prison - a relic from the game she was originally written for. I apologize for forgetting to edit it.

Of the two characters I think Jarveena would be the bigger RP challenge so yeah maybe her. Can save Kaxaon for a later vignette unless I overstay my welcome! :-D

What's this PIRATE doing without even a level of ROGUE?! What was I thinking?! :-D

Sounds great Jabes! When you are ready, go ahead and post her in the game recruitment thread so the other players can see what you are going to run :)

As an RP challenge I'd like to give Jarveena a small mechanical disadvantage as a result of her maiming. Like maybe reduced speed (25 ft) and disadvantage on Dex checks that don't involve shooting a bow.
How do you feel about this? I wonder if you might have any different ideas for how her maiming might be translated into a mechanical disadvantage (but just enough to be a challenge without putting me at TOO MUCH of a disadvantage).

I am totally fine with you playing a character with a mechanical and rp disability. Disadvantage on any non-bow Dex check sounds about what you described - a challenge, but not too hard I think. Your party might groan if you spoil their stealth checks from time to time but they'll be happy to have someone who runs slower than them when running away from ravenous T-Rexes!

Here's Jarveena multiclassed (Rogue 1, Battlemaster 4). Oh, and edited backstory: character sheet.

Hey, that's great! There may be some re-tweaking of the last part of your backstory depending on what we as a group decide the party's motivations for visiting the Isle of Dread are. Shipwreck is definitely an option, and you could all have been crew members on the Sea Witch.

Hmm, looks like we're going to have more than 6 players and their characters to choose from...

So, does anyone have any input on any of the players or characters that they particularly like or dislike? I have never gamed with MoMo, but he was the only player to read the requirements for posting closely enough to make note of his play style.

Also, Ezeriah, it's time to submit your character!

I have had MoMo as a co-player and as a DM. Excellent roleplayer, IMO.

I've never had the opportunity to game with deadpool_qc before so I can't comment on his play-style or consistency.

I've been going over the character submissions and I think they're all great, but I must say I find the relationship between Elspa (CancerMan) and Rygnar (HypCo) particularly interesting.

Among MoMo's submissions, I like Tove and Ygne, though I'm a little concerned Tove would be too similar to Jarveena - I mean in personality, not just because they're both archers. I'd vote Ygne.

Baracus cradles the small stone in his massive palm and gingerly sets atop another stone. For the past three hours, he has create a small tower of riverstones, each precariously balanced upon the last. The arrow comes through the window and thumps into the ground, send a subtle shockwave through the ground which disturbs the delicate balance between the stones. The tiny cairn holds for a moment, then topples.

Baracus's eye twitches.

He rises from his seat in the hay, his meditation in shambles. He strides towards the door, his muscles flexing and heart beat gaining speed. He reaches the door. His blood is hot. His rage is upon him. There is no turning back. He grabs the door and flings it open in a show of great strength and strides into the sunlight.

His voice is a defining roar:

"I PITTY THE FOOL
WHO INTERRUPTS MY DEEP THOUGHT!
ROLL INITIATIVE!"
