Viktor was part of a couple of diplomatic missions, one that went horrible and one that went well. Perhaps Hortensius was involved in one of them as well. Was my term 2 & 3 of 5 so his 4 & 3.

Looks like it would have been my 4th or 5th terms:

X - X - O - O - O - O - O |
O - O - O - O - O - O - O |

In his 4th term, he would have been a supervisor and could have easily been involved in arranging the mission. However, since it was a failure, it likely wouldn't have been one that Hortensius was involved with (since he was promoted from Supervisor to Manager in that term, a failure wouldn't have sat well).

However, in his 5th term, he was a manager that got some heat from a defendant because he believed he besmirched his honor and challenged him to a duel. During that term, I could easily see Hortensius navigating courtrooms and such and finding a case file booting a talented person from the scouts. In his capacity as an administrative manager, he reached out to some counterparts in the Navy and ensured that the record of the faulty scout mission was misplaced, ensuring that you got a spot on that successful diplo mission.

That could work.

Aeryn Blackis a retired pirate. She dodged the draft in University, was involved in a gambling ring, spent time in the criminal underworld, got into a feud with a rival criminal organization, and rounded out her career by backstabbing a fellow rogue... twice.

So if there is somewhere that our paths might have crossed, let's figure it out. :)

Well, Mira's last couple of terms were FULL of betrayal and disaster - and I kind of like that your university term lines up with Mira's big scientific breakthrough.
Could it be that you saw her talk during your formative university years - then when war broke out she helped you keep your place. While she probably lost touch with you after you turning to a life of piracy, her last decade of research was dangerous and a bit below-board. Perhaps the two re-connected in her later years as Mira needed space-worthy vessels to perform some of her more dangerous and less ethical experiments.

That sounds good. Aeryn's betrayal and backstabbing of a fellow rogue could have been to help Mira complete her research. And Aeryn would definitely have known people with ships that would take on missions, no questions asked.
