Chapter 1

Feb 22, 2017 6:59 pm
It has been a hard winter for the Village of Norwich. The winter snows came early and stayed late, but things were finally looking better. Spring had come and people were beginning to recover when the worse news came.

A boy from one of the farms furthest north came riding into the village square. He was covered in dried blood and had ridden his pony nearly to death. The village elder, Jonas, helped catch the boy as he collapsed out of his saddle. When asked what had happened they were able to get out of him that an orc raiding party had come from the north and was attacking the farmsteads and heading in this direction.
Feb 23, 2017 4:25 am
Urick, having not much to do in the harsh winter as such weather doesnt allow the proper growing of plants sees whats unfolding and makes it out of his living space to investigate. He walks over to Jonas and sees Book and Jack, friends of his while they were growing up also making their way to Jonas.

Urick gets there first and kneels down to help tend the boy with Jonas.

"Elder Jonas, what did the boy say? He looks like he's seen his own death"
Feb 23, 2017 8:30 am
A woman approaches to look on before pushing forward Let me take a look Vigdis looks about the body to see if there is anything that should could do back at her shop.
Feb 23, 2017 8:32 am
A woman with a satchel filled with books begins to talk over people Let the Gods be with this child. As she shakes about a pamphlet about the gods
Feb 23, 2017 8:34 am
A woman with a hatchet and bow to her side with muddy boots says They must be attacking due to the snow. The forest has not been spring life. They must be low on supplies.

Wendall rushes over to the growing group of people around Jonas. As a farm holder, the long winter has been especially harsh for him. If he heard the child correctly, the orcs were attacking farmsteads to the north. Is his next? Jonas, did the boy say which farmsteads were attacked?

Feb 23, 2017 3:22 pm
Brook watched from a nearby roof as the boy came to town, and has made her way down a ladder to the ground. She rushes to the growing group of people to see what happened.
Feb 23, 2017 3:27 pm
Kincade thinks how things were just beginning to look up for him. Making gloves is good business in a long winter. Now, as he sees Jonas hold the bloody boy outside his small shop his heart sinks. A combination of fear and anger builds inside him. Now that things are starting to get good, it all comes crashing down. Kincade stands in the door of his shop, stashing his knife on him because he's certain he'll need it soon. He waits for Jonas to speak while he looks to the north...
Feb 23, 2017 9:30 pm
Jonas gestures the gathering crowd back as even more villagers begin gathering around, all shouting their own questions. "Give the boy some room. Vigdis see what you can do for him. Now the boy says his farmstead was attacked by orc raiders. In his condition, I would prefer not to press him too hard for details and even of we did, young Eric here would likely not be able to give us much we can rely on in his current state. What we need now is accurate information. I believe we need people to head north and find out what is happening."
Feb 23, 2017 10:50 pm
An older half-elf and a human approach the boy and the crowd surrounding him. "Lad, you look like you could use some sleep. Here, there is an extra bed at my place." He offers to lead the boy to his house.
Feb 24, 2017 3:30 pm
"Head north?" questioned Jack who seems to be in awe of the situation.

"Forgive my disent elder Jonas but the boy has nearly killed himself getting here to warn us. If we are not in a position to deal with this raiding party we would serve time better trying to prepare to evacuate here rather than trying to figure out where this raiding party is"
Feb 24, 2017 3:53 pm
"Let's let the boy rest for now, Elder Jonas. We can discuss matters more once he is asleep," Tureis calmly says.
Feb 25, 2017 3:57 am
"Hmm, yes someone come help me get this boy to bed. Then we must make some decisions about what we are going to do."
Feb 26, 2017 12:04 am
"Have Tureis take him to a cot. We do not have much time to waste. If the orcs manage to make it here and we arent prepared or gone there will be a lot of our friends and family slain" says Jack who is wondering himself in the had isnt anyone seeing the danger in all of this![/i]
Feb 26, 2017 12:09 am
"We may have some time to plan. The orcs don't know this land like we do. If we were to set out sooner rather than later I'm sure we could avoid them all together" calmly speaks Book, looking towards the group
Feb 26, 2017 8:55 pm
I agree with Jack. My farm is to the north, and I don't want to wait around if it's going to be attacked. Who knows what could be saved if we act quickly? I'm going north, who's coming with me?, says Wendall, as he grips his short sword.
Feb 26, 2017 9:00 pm
Kincade knows that Wendall's right, and that Wendall will likely be dead if he acts alone. I'll go with you and help scout. Hopefully this is not as bad as it sounds.
OOC:
I'd like to have Kincade try to remember if he's ever heard or read about attacks in these parts before, in case the knowledge can give the group a tactical advantage. I'm guessing a history check?
Roll
History - 1d20+4
( 19 ) + 4 = 23
Feb 26, 2017 9:02 pm
I'll go too, says Brook. Even though she's afraid, she can't bear the thought of people being hurt and not getting help. Also, this might be the most interesting thing that ever happens to her.
Feb 26, 2017 11:50 pm
OOC:
There hasnt been a raid since you've been alive. Kincade can remember reading/hearing tales that raids from orcs use to be common, but that was before the Othalan Empire had expanded out this far. In the stories, they aren't very tactical. The orcs usually start in the lands furthest to the north, and work their way south until they are stopped, or decide they've gotten enough.
Feb 27, 2017 5:01 am
I know the area well and I am willing to go to gather information about the raid if we decide that is what needed
Feb 27, 2017 5:04 am
WE must pray for our safety. I have a pamphlet here in my bag for 1 Copper piece you can pray in the comforts of ones home
Feb 27, 2017 5:06 am
Vigdis pulls out some bandages along with some earthy green pastes and begins to bandage the boy up. If someone can carry him to his shop I can wrap him up some more.
Feb 27, 2017 2:06 pm
"I've got it." Tureis says as he helps the lad walk over to the shop.
Feb 28, 2017 4:01 pm
"I dont like our chances if only a handful of us attempt to fight Orcs" says Urick as his scaly skin shudders in the cold winds.

"We might be able to set some traps to slow them down but we should work on evacuating those who cannot defend themselves now"

Feb 28, 2017 7:41 pm
Thank you Tureis. Vigdis lead the way to her shop were she uses various powders and medicines to patch him up some more.
OOC:
Would you like me to roll a medicine or would she automatic succeed on this?
Feb 28, 2017 7:42 pm
I have no plan on fighting against them I would just like to go and see there numbers in order to plan accordingly
Feb 28, 2017 8:25 pm
Exactly. One bloody kid walks into this town and all of a sudden we think we're getting attacked by orcs! We need to see what's happening. And, in case anyone forgot, there are still people north of town? Maybe you think their lives don't matter, but I don't. My goodness people, grow a spine!
Feb 28, 2017 8:27 pm
Wendall puts his hand on Kincade's shoulder. Thanks for your support, but everyone is just trying to do the right thing. Let's go, and anyone who wants to come with us can. I'm sorry everyone, but I don't think we have time to waste.

Wendall and Kincade start leaving town, with Brook following along.
Feb 28, 2017 8:37 pm
OOC:
Snowy, Vigdis can auto succeed on the medicine check.
Feb 28, 2017 9:34 pm
Urick waves a hand down to dismiss it

"I can do more productive things in this town than chase a suicide mission" he claims as he goes to see how the boy is

Jack and Book realize that it may be in best intrests to keep good numbers and jog along behind kincade and wendall
Mar 2, 2017 12:18 am
Abelina will follow the people heading north
Mar 2, 2017 12:20 am
Wrapping up the boy she turns to whoever is there That should do it. Plenty of rest is all he needs.
Mar 3, 2017 12:00 am
Wendall and the others head north to the farmsteads to see if there is any sign of pillaging (and pillagers). They look for any signs of danger, or anyone who needs help.

(14) + 2 = 16

Mar 3, 2017 6:46 pm
OOC:
Wendall, Brook, and Kincade are all making the trip north (for better or worse).
Mar 4, 2017 9:11 am
OOC:
Only Abelina is heading north. Margot and Vidgis are remaining in town but are seperate
Mar 7, 2017 11:13 pm
As your group makes its way north, you don't see much sign of the orcs till you make it a past a few homesteads. You spot smoke rising to the sky in the distance. Wendell manages to get a view through the trees and sees a couple humans being chased around the farm by some orcs with axes.
Mar 7, 2017 11:25 pm
Everyone, there are some armed orcs attacking the farm straight ahead! If we all work together, we stand a chance of victory and survival. There's more of us than them. Will you help?
Mar 8, 2017 4:11 am
I have the bow. But I must admit it may not much use. I only have 2 arrows on me.
Mar 8, 2017 3:07 pm
Lets plan out how we want to attack them. Wendall, how many do you see?
Mar 8, 2017 4:03 pm
Wendall looks again to count the orcs.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+2)

(2) + 2 = 4

Mar 9, 2017 3:03 am
Apollos713 says:
Wendall looks again to count the orcs.
You see at least 2, but maybe more. You can't be too sure.
Mar 9, 2017 3:43 am
I see two orcs. If we all attack one together I think we have a better chance than splitting up. I only have one arrow for my bow, but my short sword is nothing to laugh at.
Mar 10, 2017 4:00 am
"Well then. I suppose unless people have weapons to assemble that we hurry and save those people?"
Mar 11, 2017 12:50 am
Ready when everyone else is mutters Jack as the cold air numbs his pink face
Mar 12, 2017 5:20 pm
So we are all attacking which one? Abelina says as her voice cracks a bit from fear
Mar 12, 2017 8:49 pm
We should attack the closest one, so it's easier to run if we have to. Wendall, you're well armed. You lead.
Mar 12, 2017 8:50 pm
Wendall sighs, I agree. Everyone, let's go!

Wendall, Kincade, and Brook all advance on the closest orc.
OOC:
Is the orc in range to roll for attack?
Mar 13, 2017 3:59 am
OOC:
Given we are in range to have a jump on one of these orcs Jack and Book will also engage
Mar 15, 2017 5:58 am
Being the only female present Abelina says I'll stay back a bit a bow isn't very useful up close She takes a step back.
Mar 15, 2017 1:34 pm
OOC:
You are in range for an attack. Everyone attacking make an initiative check. Let's do one initiative per player, using your best character's initiative. That way all your characters can be handled in one post.
Mar 15, 2017 1:48 pm

OOC:
Snowy you are up.
Mar 25, 2017 12:27 am
The sight of Wendall falling to the floor is terrifying to Abelina. She had seen injuries in her time in the forest but nothing as brutal as this. The fear comes over her immediately. Her already drawn string is let go as she releases her bow and immediately looks for somewhere to hide. Why did we think this was a good idea? She frantically thinks to herself.
