Nova Classification

Back again, I see. Good, this one's kind of important.

See, back in the early days, there were so few novas that pretty much everyone knew what their deal was. Then the Commander showed up, a lot more novas followed after, and we had a lot more that we had to keep track of. Like with pretty much everything apparently, we borrowed the terminology from astronomy, because we really have to keep the star theming going for some reason.

The basic form of the classification system isn't anything special, just keeps track of general power levels(O, B, A, F, G, K, and M, along with a number 0-9). We've got people all over the spectrum, though as far as we know the only recorded O-class was the Commander himself.

The cooler one, and the system we usually pair with the rankings, groups them by a category their powers fit into, since knowing how much power they have isn't really that useful if we have no idea what kind of power it is. I'll explain more about those later on.

Okay, so the categories, these are easier to parse than the rankings, so listen up.

First you got Physicals, self-explanatory really. Here you get people who are stronger faster, can jump really high, stuff like that. Sometimes you'll find someone who's mutated more than that, they'll get wings or a tail or something like that, but most of them are low-key and just do what the human body already does, just better. Nothing too flashy here, but they work.

Makers, well, make stuff. What kind of stuff depends on the nature of their power. Some of them are just really good at building stuff, creating machines that simply can't be recreated without a nova's help, some can reshape matter down to the molecular level, and a few can create matter from absolutely nothing(we still haven't figured that out). Useful, but more often than not it takes a while for them to do much.

Kinetics control things. "Things" being anything from energy to base elements to more complex structures like organic matter or forces like gravity. They're the most diverse of all the categories, and for every generalist among them there's one with some weirdly specific -kinesis like bubbles or wax. Most often their powers are simple at first glance, but can be among the most powerful if properly used.

Psychics, like myself, are more often than not physically weak compared to most novas, but our minds more than make up for that. Here's where you find telepaths, clairvoyants, the works. There's a lot of potential with them, but too much strain can trigger intense backlash against the user, which could give you a stroke, or you know, just set your hair on fire.

Wizards are hard to pin down for a consistent power level, but what they all have in common is that whatever the deal is with their powers, they have a theme going on, and as long as they stick to that theme, they can do just about anything. TB hates the name, but magic is the only explanation we've got for some of these people.

Lastly you got the Oddballs. These are the ones with unique powers, or just ones that are fairly rare and don't fit in with the other categories. They're a nightmare to actually classify and even harder to come up with consistent counters for.

Tara says I'm not allowed to give specific examples here, so I'm done for now I guess.
