The scene beyond the walls of your own walled city of Iustus is a grim victory. Bodies litter the fields around as the militia that comprises much of the rank and file guards work diligently to clear a road to the gates. Iustus has withstood the aggression from neighboring Nullius, and force of soldiers and mercenaries that had been fighting against your home has been endured and broken, for now.
While everyone thought it would never have actually come to war, the violence resulted from a territorial dispute. The forces of Nullius have been subjugating the surrounding towns, cities, and kingdoms in an effort to invoke a "greater sense of stability", to use the words of the palace speaker.
The rationale for which came from increases in marauding forces allied with The Diabolist throughout the entire region. After an attempt to broker a collective security agreement between the regions' inhabitants fell apart, Nullius took matters into it's own hands and proclaimed itself defender of the realm. When Iustus refused to accept the soldiers were sent to act against your home and rectify the problem, "for the good of everyone".
Meanwhile, in Timore, another kingdom in the region, a person reputed to be a somewhat unhinged despot has usurped the throne. No one knows if this is part of the pattern of activity linked to The Diabolist or not. However, it has done nothing to calm the general population, nor is it stabilizing the region. No one knows how much of Timore's standing army is left either after rumors of mass desertion spread. If true, the kingdom could be relatively weak, but if not then Timore is a force to be reckoned with.
