hey guys im new here, im having huge bugs and issues with just starting up, i really want to try this site out but half of the buttons dont work, the save button just freezes up and when i click make a new character it just loads forever. i could always just use discord or another program i just wanted to see what this was all about, am i the only one who is having issues? im using firefox browser, is that the issue? i feel like the issues are in the html code or something. is this website just coded poorly?

Hey there changgers, pleasure to meet you. What kind of character sheet were you trying to create when you had the issue?

i was just playing around to see what the site had to offer me, i clicked make a new character with the pathfinder type selected. also when i made a game i selected pathfinder as the accepted character sheet and it acted like i had not selected one so i chose custom and then it worked, also the save button is acting like its always clicked so i cant even change or edit any thing on my game. so far i cant figure out why people use this site lol seems like a huge hassle and i feel like im working with a broken system, im trying to keep faith and hope that this site can offer me something that i cant just do on discord or even email.

You sure have a funny way of asking for help.

i just dont feel like this should be hard thing to use, i mean its just for text based rpg sessions, ive done whole campaigns via group text lol! im not trying to be rude, i just want to know what is so great about this site! if there is something good here i would love to be a part of it, im a long time dnd player. one thing i have learned in playing for so long is that you dont need a complicated program to play (let alone a broken one). i just figured this site would streamline it! this site doesnt seem new, how has it been around this long with so many bugs im baffled! ive coded websites and even made video games, this cant be that hard to do!

Heh...I wasn't gonna point that out, McDunno, but it's very true.

Anywho, I went through the processes you said were giving you issues (creating a character, creating a game with Pathfinder sheets, etc.), and didn't have any issues beyond a piece of trash in my keyboard giving me issues with my V key and my two year old "helping". Check out the basic stuff on your end (cache, connection, Temporary Internet Files, etc.), then make sure the page has completely loaded before saying things like "it's coded badly". The button issues and stuff you've mentioned usually happen to me when my WiFi decides to be difficult or I hit a spot of poor coverage on my mobile. Keleth works really, REALLY hard to put this site together, and he's done some pretty amazing things coding it all himself.

It's not perfect, but then, neither is Roll20, Myth-Weavers, and a lot of the other big sites out there. There's gonna be bugs, and sometimes the fixes for the bugs will make more bugs. That's part of programming.

Anywho, I hope you have a wonderful night.

First off, welcome to GamersPlane! I can totally understand your frustration - if the site was unstable and unusable, I'm not sure how long I'd stick around either.

That being said, in the years that I've been playing here, I haven't experienced the issues you're describing, though I have seen sporadic reports of such issues. I'm no web developer, but I troubleshoot other computer problems all day, so I have a couple of questions and/or things to try:

1) What OS (x64 or x86) and browser (x64 or x86) are you using?
2) Have you tried clearing your cookies?
3) Have you tried a different browser or Incognito/InPrivate Browsing Mode?

In the other instances I remember seeing others having problems like this, clearing the cookies has also cleared up the problem. Hopefully it will for you too! :D

I'm afraid that I have little faith that this thread will end well. Ive had very few issues in the years that I've been here, and certainly nothing that would render it unusable. I will keep this open for now, but I will monitor it.

For now, try what was suggested above and that should fix nearly any of the issues you're experiencing.

If things seem to be becoming unpleasant here, someone please PM me and I'll close it down.

i mean my internet is fine, i play online games no problem without lag, i just used cc to clean out my temp files, i mean my computer isnt even a year old. ive browsed the forum for issues and i see some others have had these issues in the past. the page has literally been loading for 30+ min. i can use any other program or website no problem. i honestly feel like this site is broken. im glad you arnt having issues, but on my end every thing works fine except this site, i just streamed a 1080p vid on youtube with a 5 second buffer. so its not my internet. well i guess since i cant use this site, ill just get on reddit and see what they use, i cant recommend this site to any one until its patched. perhaps thats why ive never heard of anyone using this. i just heard from a friend that this was a thing, hes never used it. we will be taking our campaign elsewhere. good night sirs

You seem to be loading this page just fine. Have you tried making a character sheet for another system. 5e, for example.

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble changgers2, but as you're the first in early 2,000 people to be completely unable to use the site, I'm unfortunately going to have to say it's not the site. Yes, there are bugs; the site is by no means perfect. It's a solo project, something I do in my spare time, for free, but I do keep fixing things as bugs come up, and unfortunately, I have to prioritize some over others.

All that aside, I'd be glad to help you figure out what's going on. Unfortunately, I know you're being more than a bit over the top; if you were having all the troubles you were describing, you'd be having trouble on any modern website. Also, if you had web development experience, you wouldn't be so hesitant on answering some of the simple questions asked above, that any developer would need in order to help you resolve your problems. That said, the code for Gamers' Plane is public, and you're welcome to take a look and see if you can spot these errors; if you can't provide me information, then I can't help track down the problems you're facing. If you decide you'd actually like to give the site an earnest try, I'll be glad to try and help, but as that doesn't seem to be the case, best of luck finding something more to your suiting.
