Because I'm too disorganised to put up complete forums at the start of a game, here's a chatter thread to idle in while I figure out how we will do character creation.

You know I'm a sucker for anything PbtA (funny, I've never played actual Apocalypse World!). Noir is interesting...I can't say I know much about the genre but I do love settings that are different from the usual. :-)

Me neither, though the Apocalypse setting really just isn't my style I'm a huge fan of the moves system as it really supports my narrative-focused playing style.

That reminds me we will need to discuss a setting for the film as well as roles. I'm still trying to figure out how to share the stuff, though in the end I'll probably need to share the play test document to get you all the stuff as they haven't released the download resources. The designer seems fine with sharing the document with a small group to play online.

The roles we have to pick from are; the good cop, the dirty cop, the fatale, the private eye, the war vet, and the mook. I don't mind what role I play so I'll let others choose first.

As far as choosing a setting we should pick an era; the 20's, the 30's, the 40's, the 50's, the 60's, the 70's, the 80's, the 90's, the 2000's and today, and the near future, then actually pick like a place. Though if we want we can just go for what ever, after all the rules don't really assume a time period.

If you want a bit of help getting into the noir mood check the TVtropes page on it, should be useful.

Hello, people!

Talking about the characters, I would like to be the private eye, for sure...
I think 40's and 50's the best eras, since it where the most noir things usually come from ( I guess so, I am not certain about it!kkkk)

Hey all! I'm a big fan of playing either the dirty cop or the mook, if we're staking claims. Honestly, I'd love to do a cyberpunk noir setting... That would be absurdly fun in my opinion, so my vote is for near future.

I've had an idea about doing the Roaring 2020s, kind of a cyberpunk themed 20s game so that might work...
Jul 29, 2017 4:19 am
Also here is a link to the quickstart rules
Jul 29, 2017 4:37 am
Dayuuuum, even got a wicked title for it! Heh, I love that idea already.

Sounds awesome! Can't wait!

Now that we have quick start rules, should we start making characters?
Jul 30, 2017 2:30 am
Go ahead, I'll get a thread going for throwing out hooks when we start to get going. I'll also include a thread for establishing things about your character such as looks.

What roles are drawing you in Jabes? I might go PI or fetale.

Dirty Cop is calling to me. :-) Now I just need a good photo. Cyberpunk but Noir, right?

Style wise think 10 years into the future but the 20s are back in style, so all the cool things are Art Deco, flapper dresses and pin suits are in style, swing is making a comeback, etc. I'm drawing a bit from the gamrs Transistor and Invisible Inc if your familiar, but dialling back the tech a bit.

Tech wise... I'm not sure what tech would look like 10 years in the future. We probably will have some pretty good VR, prosthetics might be available but they would be obvious and no better then normal limbs if not worse (and expensive). We probably will have self driving cars down by then, and Musk wants a mars colony by 2025, so let's say there are people up there but interplanetary travel is still a huge thing. Do we want holograms? I recon we might have holograms in 10 years, but they would probably be low res and/or monochrome. We need something to be under prohibition, should we just go with the drugs we have today? Or do you want something a bit more interesting, like maybe VR experiences are prohibited, or my default answer; a line of substances which are refined emotions... Do we want AI? I don't think we're going to get it in the next 10 rears, in fact I don't think we'll crack quantum computing by then either...

Just realised that we already have a PI so I guess I'm playing the Fatale... how does it so often come to this...

Ha! Cheers on two great games right there; love the aesthetic of Invisible Inc. I'd love simple AIs, of the bookkeeper/reference manual variety. They have sixteen recipes for a martini, but it never tastes quite right unless a human does the shaking, that sort of deal. I also really like the idea of monochrome holograms, because that's just pure, beautiful Noir in a nutshell: the highest tech visuals we have available, and goddamn if they aren't black and white XD.

I'm going to opt for Mook if no one else is going for it.
Jul 31, 2017 3:59 am
It would actually be quite difficult to have a black and white hologram, as white light is polychromic. I'd imagine to match with the setting the holograms would be neon...

Some really good weak AIs then? Like a serious improving on the narrow AIs we see in phones but nothing approaching true sentience?
Jul 31, 2017 4:30 am
Interesting... Heh, technicolor holograms be pretty cool too, honestly.
Jul 31, 2017 4:49 am
I wasn't so much imagining technicolor, more just monochrome neon (i.e. Only neon red)
Jul 31, 2017 5:03 am
Ohhhh, so more along the lines of, "Help me, Obi-Wan!"

Yeah.

Also I'll throw a hook back in a bit, just finishing of the character first.
Jul 31, 2017 7:18 am
Ok so I guess the way we will do it is who ever received the last hook throws the next one. If we say that know one can receive more then two hooksI guess that would mean we would get the right number of hooks? Normally we're supposed to go around the table but I don't see how that would work in a digital setting.

If you want we can elaborate on our hooks now, such as by answering any questions left unresolved by the hook, or we can wait until it comes up in game ...

Finally don't forget to submit your character sheets. I won't actually read them as there is supposed to be secret info on it, but that way you can get your character portrait in thread...
