Background
The historical background that is the thematic seed for this campaign is Japan's Sengoku Jidai - The Era of the Warring States. From ~ 1467-1603 AD the island was divided among rival clans vying for power. Each of these clans was headed by a Feudal Lord (Daimyo) who paid lipservice to the essentially powerless figurehead emperor, while maintaining their own independent standing armies, spies, alliances, etc.
Party
I asked the players to create characters that are all affiliated with a single Noble House in some capacity (Heirs, extended family, soldiers, priests, chefs, poets, whatever). The players decided that their clan is a human clan named House Davo. Here they are:
Shin Davo - Human* Cleric
-Son of Lord Kai Davo and Heir of the Davo Clan
*Actually a half-elf bastard who was raised as Kai's true heir. The party does not know this. Shin does. He regularly has to perform a mild self-mutilation ritual to shave off the tips of his elf-like ears in order to conceal this fact.
Kaizo - Half-elf Warlock
-Bastard son of Lord Kai Davo, and older brother of Shin Davo
-Occult expert, theater student, kind of Emo because he's a bastard
-Patron: Erinis - forgotten daughter of an archdevil. A professional and businesslike social climber within the circles of hell
Risa Davo - Human Sorcerer
-Cousin of Shin & Kaizo. Daughter of Suru, Lord Kai's sister.
-Legally disinherited from the family line as a result of her dangerous 'gift' (wild magic).
-Loves fire. But she *tries* to restrain herself.
Delwyn - Half-elf Monk 4/Druid 2
-Sailor, orphaned when his parents were killed by pirates. Taken in by Lord Kai Davo.
-Monk of the Baoshen temple. Tattooed, shapechanging, druid-monks. Partial to Gorilla-style martial arts
Captain Blackshield - Human Paladin
-Loyal, Devoted, and Professional military captain. Sworn bodyguard of the Davo family.

Ueda - Hobgoblin Clan

-God: Lor Kei - Knowledge Goddess of Secrets & Magic
Oda - Dragonborn Clan
-Crest: Serpent
-Sea & Riverborn merchants and traders
-Very few in numbers, and thus a very open society that welcomes other races as soldiers, aides, and employees
Mori - Dwarf Clan
-Crest: Ox
-The Mori noble line is extinct, but independently governed dwarf cities still exist.
Commoners of all races populate the towns, cities, and backwater provinces of Ukiyo.
