Do I know (of)
a) Bar K (what's the clientele etc.)?
b) Mx Lexi Boston-Terrier?
If the answer is no to either of those questions, I'm going to make some enquiries before heading to Bar K. I've probably heard of the Princess. :)
You'd all know Lexie is a close friend of the Princess and usually acts as the middledog between royalty and common folk.
He retrieves the letter and, after reading it twice, folds it up and tucks it safely into his belt pouch. He grabs his gear and heads to Bar K about two hours early and takes a corner seat to await the arrival of Lexie.
Greetings, gentle dogs. May I sit? We seem to have been summoned by the same person.
With only a minute to spare before the appointed meeting time, Champ bursts into the tavern, tongue lolling out from running, waving the letter in the air. "Hi! Am I late? Oh, I hope I'm not late!"
A bar maiden follows to the table "So, that's two waters. Is there anything else I can get you?"
Lexie interjects "It is all payed for by the Princess, as thanks for your service."
After a quick look at the others, he folds his arms, waiting for the impending news.
The bar maiden takes any other orders before walking to the back, bringing out plates of steaming meat and bowls of water for those that requested. After everyone has their meals and water and the bar maiden leaves, Lexie leans in "So, as you may or may not have known, our lovely town has had a bit of a bandit problem as of late. While there is no way to prove it, I believe they were sent by the cats from the town over to try and improve their borders. We've been tasked with taking them out, lethally or otherwise, to show them we can't be so easily pushed around. Now, enough about business stuff," She gets up, practically on the edge of the seat "and talk about the interesting stuff. After we finish securing our borders, I have learned of a temple of man that has been long forgotten, overtaken and hidden by nature. My intel suggest that man has been spotted roaming around; perhaps it is just a fallacy but even the minute chance of seeing man again is exiting enough to me to want to at least check it."
Cats, eh? They've been encroaching on my territory, too. Wouldn't mind a chance to hurt their business a little.
He looks at Champ and Jack.
Man? Seriously? That old wives' tale? Sure, somebody built all those old places we keep finding but it's very obvious that they're long gone. Maybe another trick by the cats? Their magic is creepy as heck.
While her smile doesn't fade, her tone of excitement does "We're not hurting their business, not yet at least, only getting them out of ours. If they continue to press though, we will be sure to answer accordingly. It maybe just a trick by the cats and it's clear that Man is long gone from the temples we've come across. But I feel this is different, this one isn't out in the open like the others, maybe Man is just hiding."
Right, let's first make sure no more good dogs are hurt, then find out who's behind it and then we'll hurt those responsible. And then, maybe after a meal and a bowl or two and a nice nap, we'll see what's up in that temple.
So, tell us more about those bandits. Who have they been targeting?
Wastl turns to Lexi.
As I understand it, we only suspect cats might be behind the attacks but cats weren't actually seen at the scene? If that's the case using something that would specifically interest cats might tell them we're onto them. Also, ::innocent face:: isn't catnip ... illegal?
Regarding catnip, I hear there are good prices being asked and paid in certain areas of Riverwall. I haven't looked at where the supply comes from but it all seems to be a bit hush hush.
I'll get some dogs to spread a little info in Riverwall where it might get picked up by eager ears. Where and when do we meet to head out?

How do we handle downtime/scenes where everybody goes off to do their own thing?
Wastl will be on the chuck wagon. ;)
butts is seen as feral, a throwback to older times and something only canines do.
As you awake in the morning, you ready yourself and gather your things before making your way to the park. You see Lexie, awaiting you this time, dressed in a fine robe; smiling as you all trickle in and gather around. As the last of you arrive, she addresses you quietly "So the cart is ready, filled with a couple barrels of dog food to give it a bit more weight. If there is no other questions, we can make our way to where the cart rests."
He greets Lexi with a curt bow and a smile and the others with a hearty pawshake. He stores his small crossbow under one of the cart seats, climbs up and makes sure his rapier is well hidden under his cloak yet easily drawn.
Right, let's see if we can make this work.
With a gentle nudge, Lexie ushers the horses forward, the cart exits through the gate, and you begin down the road.
Everyone give me a notice check.

He quietly grabs his bow and nocks an arrow.
He puts up his paws up but tries to make sure his cloak doesn't fall open to reveal his rapier.
"We don't have any weapons and are simple Man-fearing merchants who supply our own kind. I doubt our supplies will be to your refined tastes."
Under his breath he adds,
I can only see two, in the bushes.
"There."
The two smaller figures flank on each side of the front, each keeping an eye on Westl and Lexie. The larger figure makes his way to the back and begins to mess with the flap.

Searching the other small one, you find the same; an itemless cat—aside for the two weapons and armor—with the same shaved patch two bones cross.
Searching the larger one, reveals it is actually a dog. It has nothing in it's pockets and only seem to own a battleaxe, a shortbow, and a set of cloaked armor. It has the same shaved spot but instead of the two crossed bones, it is a brand of two fish skeletons forming a circle.

Have any of you seen something like this?
Much less concerned about looking the part of a traveling merchant cart, the pace is quickened and you make it back to town fairly quick. "I do apologize again, I was just expecting a common bandit group or something of the like. If you'd like meet me at Bar K again, informing shouldn't take that long; feel free to tell the owner anything you get will be covered for. I have to run now, see you soon." After that she hurriedly makes her way down the street.
Anyone want any of these? If not, I know a few good dogs who could make use of them.
He'll then pass the time at the tavern with a couple of bowls of ale and food, discussing the weird brands with the others but making sure they aren't overheard.
Marvin waves dismissively at the weapons. "No, thank you."
He joins Wastl at the tavern, unwinding after all the excitement. "Those sure are strange marks. Why would a dog do that to themselves?"
