Race Relations

The elf population has decreased significantly. Since 1770, the elf population has dropped 25%. Many of their villages have been overtaken by humans. The elves now control small areas of forests outside of the human dominated areas. Due to the longevity of the elves, many remember times of peace. Elves inside the human dominated areas are usually slaves or considered less than a human citizen.

It is unknown how much of the dwarf population has decreased, due to the majority of them living in mountains and underground. Relations between the humans and dwarves are strained but better than that between the elves and humans. The dwarves mine precious ores that are needed to produce the humans weapons of war. Since the humans overtook the Killmane Mountains, the dwarves are less needed. Dwarves are allowed to be merchants and workers within the limits of human towns, but are still looked down upon.

The orc population is minimal, even before the war. Orcs are migratory barbarians who are rarely in the same location for more than two weeks. Orc tribes generally consist of about 30 members and are led by the strongest warrior. Due to the rough, nomadic nature of orcs, minimal contact occurs between them and human civilizations, though occasionally an orc war party will lead a raid on a small village.

The gnomes are very useful to the humans and are treated the best out of all of the other non-human races. Gnomes are inventive, intelligent, and non-physically threatening. In human civilizations, they are merchants, inventors, and occasionally thieves. Gnomes can be accepted in just about any circle, whether good, bad, or neutral.

Halflings are often overlooked in society, regarded as children by some and useless by others. Many become thieves out of necessity to survive. No one particularly hates them, but no one particularly cares for them either. Halflings are seen gallivanting wherever they like and tend to stay in groups.

Half-elves are outcasts from all societies. Distrusted by both elves and humans, many are regulated to poor parts of human cities. They aren’t immediately arrested or killed, but if accused of crimes, they are often jailed without defense. They want to be accepted and will often attach themselves to the first person who shows them kindness, regardless of their intents. Half-elves can be seen in various rogue, assassin, and bandit groups.
