A Mid May Thursday, 8PM - Downtown Halcyon City

High above the city

Professor Uranium, famed nuclear themed supervillain is locked in mortal combat with his hated rival, The Silver Sparrow. Channel 18 News Drones are circling the fight, capturing as much of it as possible for breaking news and livestreaming. Police helicopters are keeping their distance both from Uranium's silver-age themed uranium rays and the sonic echos Silver Sparrow makes when she launches herself at Mach 3 to rain down another punch upon her adversary.

On the ground it's a different story. HCPD are on standby to deal with a silver age power situation or potential team up contingency, and have gathered on rooftops or on main roads to deal with curious onlookers who are likely to be endangered when the fight comes to an end. Which means they're distracted.

Exterior - Pike Jewelers, on 8th and MacIntyre

Eight figures with balaclavas burst out of the jewelery store, some with small guns, some with crowbars, most with sacks on their backs. Alarm bells bark out loudly into the streets. All of them are wearing bulletproofed vests under black jackets with a white patch on the back with a red tree. Civilians on the street scream, panic and run away as the one of them who has an automatic weapon fires some rounds into the sky to give his group some room.

As the crowd parts the robbers can see something they weren't counting on. Six teenage superheroes between them and their getaway van.

"Out of the way kids" the one nearest one to you shouts above the noise, looking at each one of you in turn, obviously trying to work out if he recognises any of you. Coming up short, he decides pointing his gun towards the most dangerous looking one of you, Rosethorn, is the safest course of action, "You don't want any part of the nine of us"
OOC:
What's the plan team?

Whimsy sighs. Why do some humans have to be so tiresome when is so much fun to be had in their world? She rakes the group with her gaze looking for the weak spot in this gaggle of ruffians.
OOC:
The intent is to assess the situation. I will ask, how could we best end this quickly?

The eight thugs out here are just humans. Well armed and dangerous, but just regular toughs. A modest display of your powers and some violence would be the fastest way to get things under control. You could also step aside and give them their van since that's what they want (but I assume you're not considering that)
Dec 12, 2017 8:35 pm
OOC:
Is the van running? I assume no one's in there or else we'd have fought them already.
Dec 12, 2017 8:43 pm
"Stand down. If someone gets hurt, that’s a lot of jail time. You sure that’s what you want?" Cammy sounds a lot more confidant than she feels. Are those guns? Shit.
Dec 12, 2017 8:45 pm
Mist recognizes that he is probably the least durable of his team, and besides, they can handle a fight better than him. He backs up into the van, passing into the driver's seat and looking for ways to do that which he does best.
OOC:
I am going to assess the situation and oh dear. That's a potential at least.

Yep. Mist marks potential...
Mist phases into the van but it's not exactly unnoticed by the gang. Now they're pretty sure at least half of you are dangerous rather than a group of wannabes and their scary friend. The heavy duty delivery van isn't running and no one's in it (and neither are the keys). The team now has the gang's undivided attention, and they look pretty itchy on those trigger fingers.
Dec 12, 2017 9:35 pm
"Ash and Thorn!" Whimsy swears. "Shades, everybody!" She calls out in warning to her team. Whimsy then raises her hands and let's loose a blinding flare of light in the direction of the thugs.
OOC:
Oh dear. More potential.

Light flares out in all directions catching everyone off guard. One of the goons is momentarily blinded and fires a shot from their shotgun off harmlessly up into the sky. The rest manage to avert their eyes just as the flare lights up. They're scattering for whatever cover they can find; an alleyway, a newspaper dispenser, a parked car and the like. Any hope of this one being wrapped up in a single burst is out the window at this point.
OOC:
They start the fight for you. When the team enters a battle against a dangerous foe or team, add 2 to the Team pool. No leader established, team's off balance, but goal is pretty much in order as it's simple "apprehend the thugs". Total 3.

Current Team Pool: 4

If someone wants to retroactively declare themselves the leader and they have Influence over everyone, that can go up to 5
There's a loud smashing noise coming from the back room of the jewellery shop; sounds like a heavy duty safe just got torn apart.
Dec 12, 2017 11:36 pm
Mist stumbles out of the van and ends up next to the rest of the team. He’s very careful to stay in his phased state in case bullets start flying. "Uh… guys? Didn’t the one guy say there were nine of them?"
Dec 13, 2017 2:22 pm
"That he did." Quasar replies through grit teeth as the situation starts to deteriorate. As he charges up his powers, his skin begins to glow, haloed in crackling energy. His eyes dart between the jewelry shop and each hiding place he saw a thug disappear behind, trying to come up with a way to end this quickly and safely.
OOC:
So I know PbtA is abit loosey goosey with "action economy" and every GM handles it differently. I imagine Quasar could be charging up while assessing the situation. Please let me know if I am wrong in this.

Rosethorn cringe-smiles as he opens his eyes and sees the scattering thugs. With a chuckle, he says over his shoulder "You know, I never get tired of 'tough' guys running scared, something about it just tickles me." Hearing the commotion from the shop he moves towards the door and continues "I'm going to handle the joker inside, you guys got this?"

OOC:
Yeah, I'm okay with doing two things at once if the first one passes and it all flows naturally; Burn's an especially good move to tack on at the end of something (although definitely at the end of something given it's likelihood of downsides). I'll shout for a retcon if I need to go back on anyone's posts midway though
The thugs now now they've bitten off more than they can chew with Quasar powering up; you can see one of them who's pushed their bandanna up above their mouth to breath muttering "The Art District..." and rapidly trying to chamber a round into her pistol. Looks like they now recognise you. Shaken as they are then, identifying their ringleader, beating them up, and keeping them cornered until the cops turn up will end the fight fastest.

Rosethorn stepping forward gets the thug with the automatic weapon's attention, but he hears the noises from inside the jewellery shop stop, and chuckles "Sounds like the boss is done. He's gonna make kindling outta you, freak". He's choosing pointing his gun square in the direction of Quasar, who he's figuring is the biggest threat right now.
OOC:
Which I imagine isn't going to make Kingfisher very happy...

It always surprised him - No matter how many times he heard it, it still felt like a kick to the guts. What was nice about this time though, was that he could do something about it. Stopping mid stride, Rosethorn turned to the thug and growled "Man, I don't think you understand what kind of freak I am, but you're about to find out." A gentle cracking sound could be heard in the momentary silence, as the few flowers on his shoulders wilted and died and his thorns grew longer and more brutal looking.

Dec 16, 2017 9:30 pm
The automatic weapon ganger is getting pretty shaky. They all are; Rosethorn is the scariest thing they've seen up close and so they're simultaneously sizing him up and trying not to look like the first person Rosethorn will put on the end of his spikes.
OOC:
You got a hit. You'll still have to choose one of the options from the Be the Monster list
Mist phases back out and starts off towards the building while the others are distracted by Rosethorn. Inside the building, even from this distance Mist can see that amongst the shattered cash registers and display cases there are... discarded willow leafs? Branches?

No Be a Monster selection yet? Grr. Ah well... lets throw something at Mist...
Mist gets to the door just as a safe crashes through it, scattering parcels of small gems and... some kind of technology? It's marked with the RANSEUR logo.

Mist doesn't have much time to focus on it because vines grapple around the door frame and pull through approximately twelve foot of humanoid tree, pulling himself with great force through the door frame. His face, encrusted with bark, looks ancient and wizened, an ancient beard of ivy stretches from his face, what would be his hair is a red mess of the serated, long leaves of a willow tree in autumn.

Grasped around the branch that forms his right arm is a colossal ruby about the size of Mist's head. The treeman's face ponderously turns to look at Mist "... children" he yawns, his voice ancient and slow "Haven't you got a derelict to be vandalising?"

Frozen in place, Cammy snaps back into focus when she hears Mist. "Wait, I'm coming with you!" She runs after him into the building.
Dec 23, 2017 4:19 am
For a moment Rosethorn was happy in his rage as he saw the fear in their eyes - "God it feels so good to let it out!" he thought to himself scanning the group of scum. But then his eyes landed on the small crowd that had gathered to see the action. The cellphones were out recording, as always, but he also noticed some lift their phones and start dialing with pure terror in their eyes. "Man, I didn't even notice them. Why does this always have to happen!" he fumed to himself. For a moment his attention was split between the crowd and the thugs, not even hearing the chatter of his team.

Winter break's over. Back to the game
The gigantic tree man looks down at Mist and Cammy. He's barely acknowledging you, and definitely not treating you seriously and is planning to simply push his way past you. A lumbering branch of an arm swoops towards both of you, likely to push you out of the way.

There is indeed a large crowd gathering. Quite a few screams of panic and awe, and not just from the bank robbers. They weren't prepared for this and look around desperately looking for an exit. The one with an automatic weapon who called out Rosethorn has dropped his gun entirely and has collapsed to the floor as he flexes his thorns.

The rest of his team split up and break, similarly freaked out. The woman with the handgun springs out from behind her cover and is trying to run into the crowd. The two with a shotguns are trying to run down an alleyway that you know leads to a dead end (must not be locals) and one decides to chance his way to the van carrying as much loot as he can; which does mean running past at least one of Rosethorn, Kingfisher, Quasar and Whimsey.

What's the plan team?

Seeing the tree come towards her, Cammy rushes in front of Mist, feeling the hard ground meld into her form as she tries to block the branch.

Cammy takes on the form of the floor, a mixture of linoleum and concrete. It's not the greatest defense against the branches but it takes the brunt of the branch, bending the wood around you, and it gently comes to a stop landing between you both. However, you now have his full attention. The branches fix themselves to the floor and sprout additional branches of their own, separating you both, putting Mist outside the store with the rest of the treeman and trapping Cammy inside of it.
Jan 16, 2018 4:07 am
"Ah, crap. Okay, you guys round up the goons, I’m gonna try to get Cammy out of there." Mist ducks under the branches and tries to phase into where he guesses Cammy is in among all the plant matter.

Cutting through his reverie, Rosethorn began to feel something nearby. Something growing and spreading. Something familiar....

But that feeling is interrupted by the thug running by towards the van. "I don't think so" Rosethorn growls, whipping his arms out, trying to clothesline the thief.
OOC:
Post-roll edit. Woohoo! I'm choosing take something from them to have the thug drop the loot , and create an opportunity for your allies to suprise/distract the ent by hitting him with the flying thug. Let me know if any of this is not kosker
The thug tries to duck, but it's too late as Rosethorn drives him like a bat hitting a baseball. Letting out a guttural "Oof" the thug releases his hold on the loot as he sails through the air towards the building, landing hard into the mass of plant matter that now occupies the door.

The thug goes hurtling through the air and bounces, almost comically, off of the treeman in the doorframe. He turns to face you; you have his full attention. "Run along now sapling, unless you want Old Willow show you a thing or two". He stomps towards you, slowly but angrily, leaving a line of roots chewing through the concrete as he does so.

It's still a weird experience for you to phase through living matter; even if it's just mostly plant matter there's that uncomfortable feeling as your molecules pass through cell matter, connected to what's ostensibly a living being with a heartbeat behind it. Nevertheless you pass through, reach out for Cammy and get through fine.

You really, really don't want to do that again; not for a while. You're going to take a powerful blow if you phase through any part of Old Willow again this scene.

What now?
Jan 21, 2018 10:10 pm

"Only bad ones. Here goes nothing." Cammy grabs the closest tree branch, focusing intently on it as she tries to drain and weaken her target. As she grabs the branch with one hand, her other hand forms into a similar tree form that she hopes to use as a whip. The energy has to be channeled somewhere, after all. It might as well be useful...

Quasar stands rooted to the spot, charged up, muttering "Don't screw up! Don't screw up!" under his breath for what seems like an eternity. All his life Julio has never really fit in anywhere. In every group he's been a part of he's always felt like an impostor - as if sooner or later they're going to realize he's only there because there's been some mistake and kick him out. He felt like that at Science Club meetings and so he quit. Robotics Club, too, and even RPG group at the gaming store. Probably why he stopped gaming at the table altogether and starting playing via play-by-post exclusively. He's just never fit in. And now this group, these heroes, as inexperienced as everyone is they all seem to know what to do while all he's done is stand here...

Quasar's thoughts are interrupted when he hears Cammy's voice calling for help. Eyes blazing, he focuses on Old Willow and lets loose.
