New character?

I feel like I'm in a bit of a conundrum on this one. Momo clearly does not fit in this dynamic, I think. I'm sure that the three roguish types view everything that has happened thus far as normal when engaging in these kinds of deals, but for Momo it's not good. He's not smart, so from his perspective this was all a trap. He probably doesn't even believe the other PCs are really in the same situation as him. I think the most likely thing he would do is to just walk out of the tavern on the assumption that he needs to find other work. Should I just make a new character that fits in better with the group dynamic?

You can but I like Momo. We don't need another snarky expert to complete the party dynamic and I wouldn't say he's too dumb with a -1 to be useful or savvy about how things work in the criminal underworld. He might be a little bit uneducated but that doesn't mean he is a child.

I like Momo as well. I think he's a good character. He's definitely lacking intelligence and proper education, but he's not "too dumb" at all.

In fact, if he were more childish, then there wouldn't be an issue. The problem is that he's smart enough to know that this job and this crew have already proven that can't be serious. Thus, it must have been a trap just to lure unsuspecting people that are not likely to call for the local guard after getting robbed. I'm struggling to fully understand how he would decide to continue on with this job.

That's why I was thinking a more hardened criminal that is used to this kind of thing might be more suited to the dynamic. Or perhaps a character that is desperate and this job is his last chance for something. Momo isn't the type of character to keep a motivation of sticking with this kind of thing. That's my fault for creating him that way. Hence I created the thread.

Also, was it not a trap? Seems to me a lot like a trap too.

Lol, you know. That just might be the solution. I can see Momo wanting to know why someone tried to trap him with this. Whether or not it was all intended to be so is not relevant. I hadn't considered the thought of using it in that way. Thanks.

I think the dynamic between the less perceptive (more naive?) Momo and the criminal elements of the story is very entertaining, but you might feel differently. Perhaps the other characters can assist in pointing Momo in the right direction. If you think you would be happier playing a different character, you may, but I feel Momo is working out just fine.

On reflection it appears the barkeep was running a common scam that targets tourists and other new faces – a pretty girl lures the customers to drink for free or very cheap, then later a set of large and intimidating 'associates' appear and frighten the target into paying for the items, which have suddenly become very expensive. The barkeep, in his greed, was willing to try and extort the PCs despite them being obviously more formidable than run-of-the-mill tourists! From Cyrus' outburst it seems that this has happened before, and he is not pleased with the barkeep.
