This shadow network seeks to expand its influence and power base throughout Faerun. Its members coerce, persuade, or buy their way into every major area of influence. Rogues and warlocks fill the Zhentarim’s ranks, but the faction recruits any who can conduct its business without too many moral reservations.

Zhentarim operatives might be found in any settlement, but in the North the organization is based in the Bargewright Inn. Zhentarim mercenaries and spies meet within its many private chambers. The Black Network disguises its ownership of the inn to avoid unwanted attention. The organization also has a vested interest in maintaining the prosperity of Yartar.

We should talk about where you are from. You each have adventure hook reasons that have drawn you here, but did you know each other prior? Do you know the others as Zhentarim before we begin?

Dazzle will have spent the last few years scraping by in Waterdeep before finally getting the attention of the Zhentarim. Anyone else want to also be from Waterdeep and we can figure out some connections?

I sought out the zhentarim after my village was burned down. I vowed never to feel that powerless again.

Okay great but how would we have spent time together before arriving in Red Larch? We need to figure out the what (and where), not the why.

For example, Dazzle likes to run con jobs, ingratiate himself with the wealthy, perform illusory performances, peddle drugs and stolen merchandise. Do either of you have connections to any of those kinds of circles so that we can figure out how they would have met or worked together in the past?

Okay cool, so we won't have any links together and will be meeting for the first time on this mission. What about for you, bd1990?

It's possible that we may have run into each other. Alyx is into anything that would allow him to accumulate power, including things he might consider lesser like smuggling and petty crime. Although, he spent most of his time in the group training to be a wizard, it is possible he might have had to purchase hard to find components from you.

Perfect! Wizards need all sorts of strange components for their spells, and Dazzle always seems to know someone who knows someone who can find whatever you need.

Chapter 3
The Zhentarim aren’t particularly concerned about the delegation for its own sake, but they see an interesting opportunity here to rescue the missing delegates and win the gratitude of the leaders of Mirabar. Accordingly, a Zhentarim character wants to prove the good faith of the Black Network by lending a helping hand.
