Interest Check: Blades in the Dark

Hey Gamersplaners!

I have a couple interested people already, but looking for a couple more. Who wants in on a game of Blades?

I've ran the system as a one-shot IRL once but that's it so there may be a learning curve on the GM side. So you must be OK with that.

For those of you not familiar with the system, it is a derivative of the "Powered by the Apocalypse/Dungeon World" family. Possession of the book is not a requirement, though familiarity with those games' "fiction first"-style would be good. There is a free "players kit" though available for download that should enable you to play the game even if you don't know anything of what I'm talking about here.

There is a player kit available for free from the publisher (as well as basic character sheets), which contain the basics of the system - again, for free! Check it out.

No. But I've been wanting to dive in

No problem! When I started this game, I had ran 1 IRL session I think... and now I've ran all of like 5 IRL sessions, plus the 1/2 sessions worth of play we've completed so far here. So we're basically all learning together!

So my recent backups have bowed out, and I'm looking to take on a new player again.

We are mid-game (tho on-hold while I try to find a new player), and I think at this point I'd prefer someone with Blades experience, and who would be willing and able to put together a Character on their own fairly promptly.

Hi emsquared! I would be interested for sure. I played BitD once at a con last year and found the system and setting very appealing. I’m definitely not super-familiar but I am a self-starter when it comes to TTRPG’s and if the free PDF is enough to get me going I’d be happy to dive into it over the weekend and come up with a character. Any class in particular you are looking for?

But really you can have quite different playstyles within a class, so it's not too important that you play a different one. Just pick what interests you.

If you don't mind, I'll answer your PMed questions here, as others may have the same questions. I'll wait for your word though to make it "public".

The post frequency ranges right now I'd say, between one post every 1 - 3 days.

We've had periods where we hit once per day, and periods where it's been closer to once a week, though the core three we have now (one of whom is taking a break for real life reasons, but is a long time member of the community, and a reliable player) haven't really had that kind of a slowdown I think.

Frankly, as someone who's been playing PbP daily for about three years now (here and at other sites), that 1 post per 1-3 days is pretty standard for a game that has reached it's "steady state", in my experience. Which is why I all GMing 2 games and playing in 3, and have been involved in as many as seven at any one time...

I try very hard, in all my games, to be very responsive. As GM, I know I am the lynch pin, and so I try to make responses same day, and push the narrative when there's a lull.

That all sounds great, feel free to make your response public for others to know! Maybe I just need to take on another game or two so if each one is posting every 1-3 days then I'll end up with a regular cycle of games to check on :)

I actually already started reading through the rulebook (at work!!), so I'd love an invite and I should be able to make up a character over the weekend and have it ready to jump in ASAP!

Doing the exact same thing. I'm running two games and am playing in a third... though I feel like I could play in one more and then be perfectly balanced. I'm on the site literally every day and am loving this community. :)
