Character Creation

Apr 6, 2018 7:31 pm
Discuss character ideas in here.

Things to note, your characters might have to deal with Imperials at the beginning and maybe beyond since the Imperial exploration is, if not well-known, has been heard of in exploration circles and the like. So, just a heads up, you will probably be working with them. But whether that is a permanent relationship will be up to you guys.

Force and Destiny characters can be used but be warned you will be working for the Empire at times. Unless you really want an Inquisitor on your tail I would argue against it. But we might be able to make it work....

Also, I only have the Edge of the Empire and Force and Destiny core-books. I'm perfectly fine with you playing a Big Game Hunter for instance. But I need the talents and such given to me word for word as you buy them. We'll use the honor system. ;)

I’m thinking a Gunslinger from Fly Casual, race undetermined plus either Cunning or Presence, haven’t decided

That will work. Just make sure you think of how the gunslinger could be justified. What I'm trying to say is that you are basically took a job for the Imperials to explore a said location. Why would the Imperials hire this gunslinger on this expedition? What job would he or she perform? That job could just be muscle, but there needs to be a reason. And that goes for every character. What function would they perform as an explorer?
Apr 8, 2018 12:27 am
I'm thinking a character that's a mix of muscle and mechanic. Leaning towards Gank from Lords of Nal Hutta.

Presence 1, all other characteristics start at 2; WT 10+Br, ST 10+Wi; 110 starting XP, free rank in either Coercion or Vigilance; but it's their special ability that's most interesting. It's called Cyborg, and they start with max 2 pieces of cybernetics worth no more than 5,000 credits combined; additionally, their cybernetics cap is 3+Brawn score.

As for why he was hired, he's the mechanic.
Apr 8, 2018 1:42 am
I’m thinking a Klatooinian from Dangerous Covenants. I hadn’t really looked at that race before but they have a cool look and history and really versatile rules.
Apr 8, 2018 2:15 am
All of that sounds good. Just one thing though Meribson. I hadn't planned much mechanics stuff for at least the first bit of our exploration adventures. If you are okay with that, I have no problem with you being a mechanic. But your muscle will probably be most used at first.

By the way, I'm going to go through a day or two leaving the recruitment thread up and just relying on that. If nothing happens with that within those two days, emsquared has generously offered a list of those waiting for his Star Wars game which I will then invite.
Apr 8, 2018 2:40 am
Fair enough.

I'm currently torn between starting out a Guardian/Armorer or Bounty Hunter/Gadgeteer. Either way I plan on purchasing the Technician specialization Cyberneticist. So he'll be able to function as a medic as well as mechanic.
Apr 8, 2018 3:32 am
Those sound good. Just note that if you choose a Force User you might have Inquisitors running after you and a harder time working for Imperials if they find you out. But hey, what's the fun of a game if there's no tension?
Apr 8, 2018 4:11 am
So here's the cybernetics that I'm looking at getting:

Gank Comm Impant, pg 107 Lords of Nal Hutta
Rarity: 7
Price: 250
Acts as a comlink, but can be used purely with thoughts. The catch is, it can only connect with other gank comm implants. No intent on it playing any role other than fluff.

Cybernetic Respirator, pg 107 Lords of Nal Hutta
Rarity: 4
Price: 2,000
Provides the benefits of both a breath mask and a respirator, as well as granting a rank in the Blooded talent.

Separate question: I'm looking at the armor crafting stuff in Special Modifications/Keeping the Peace. The Customizable Armor template starts out costing 500 credits, has encumbrance 4, 4 hard points, and soak 1. To build it I need to roll an Average Mechanics check. Would you allow this? I'm willing to roll here in the thread, if you would prefer.
Apr 8, 2018 1:58 pm
I'm okay with the cybernetics. The rarity 7 on the Comm Implant I'm also willing to allow since you said it will be mainly fluff. But who knows, maybe it will come in useful at some point later on.

As for the armor, as long as you can afford it with the credits a starting character gets, I think it's okay. Roll it up on this thread when you finish the character.
Apr 8, 2018 2:56 pm
Building the armor, the Boost comes from his rank in Inventor

The last piece of equipment to clear is his primary weapon: the Laserhorn Trailbreaker Poleaxe (pg 43 Savage Spirits)
Encumbrance 5
Hard Points 1
Rarity 5
Price 610
Damage +3
Critical 3
Defensive 1, Pierce 2, Unwieldy 2

So the armor has been made, and the gank Tark has been submitted. Still working on motivations and backstory, but the mechanics are finished.

2 Success, 3 Advantage, 3 Threat

Total: 2 Success

So my concept is a Duros Colonist/Entrepreneur. Maybe a background in rare mineral trading and he wants to expand his business by finding new and exciting stuff. I'd be happy to make him the group pilot if no one else is interested, but I don't plan to put much emphasis on it.
Apr 8, 2018 10:54 pm
That sounds good Havoc. You probably have an obvious reason to be on an Imperial expedition. You know rocks. At least, you've convinced the Imperials you do. ;)

And the Poleaxe sounds good too, Meribson.

So far no humans. At least so far we all know why the Imperials send you blokes on a dangerous expedition. Send in the non-humans to set off the traps.
Apr 9, 2018 8:23 pm
Submitted my Klatooinian Gunslinger. Backstory in the notes. Let me know what you think
Apr 9, 2018 9:19 pm
Quick question: when in relation to ANH is the game taking place?
Apr 9, 2018 9:48 pm
@Meribson. I was thinking somewhere in the general area of 3-4 years before.

@Bardo. Looks good. Just one thing. If you could actually put the text of the talent next to it I would appreciate that. That way I don't have to go searching through books to look for it. Nice backstory by the way.

@Havoc8154. Could you assign a number to your obligation? Also, while piloting won't be much of an issue at the front end of things, if you run out of solid patrons you might need someone to be at least moderately competent in it. Although it would be amusing if none of you had a clue how to fly a ship.

Also, to everyone, could you note on your character sheet what your career and specialization skills are whether you have a rank in them or not? Just to give me a sense, at a glance, of where your character stands.

Now only Ancalagon needs to get a character concept up. I'm also willing to let one more person sign up so I might see if I can sniff one out.
Apr 9, 2018 10:05 pm
Also, for a better grasp of the group composition, it appears we have a mechanic Gank who can also double as melee muscle. We also have a gunslinger Klatooinian who, in regards to the expedition, functions as a jack-of-all-trades. And we have a Duros Entrepreneur who has somehow convinced the Imperials he is a geologist (unless Havoc thinks of some other reason why he's on the expedition).
Apr 12, 2018 2:46 am
I'll be a decent pilot, Duros gets a free rank anyway. I just mean I don't figure this will be a space heavy type game, so I wasn't gonna put much more than that.

I figure Zom studied geology on a Duros asteroid mining colony, and now wants to start a business and make some money as an explorer. So he'd definitely see the expedition as a good opportunity.

And I updated the obligation.
Apr 12, 2018 3:13 am
I have 4 agility so can pilot pretty well.
Apr 13, 2018 2:37 am
By the way, do you want all characters to have an Obligation starting out?
Apr 13, 2018 3:40 pm
Hmmm. I was thinking about this. I would prefer that but since you were playing a F&D character I was hesitant. But, what the heck, sure. If you could, roll that up. I promise I won't kill you having Morality and Obligation.

And by the way, if the game has been running somewhat slow (or if it runs somewhat slow over the weekend) it's because I've come down with a nasty bug. So if you don't hear from me over the weekend, don't freak out. I'm just sleeping. But come next week I should be good.

And I'm also trying to get some more players in this game since we only have three now.
Apr 15, 2018 8:44 pm
Alright, I'm back and feeling much better. Nasty, stupid cold. I basically got nothing done these past few days. Oh, well. That's life.

But we have a new player. I messaged him so hopefully he gets a character all kitted out soon and we can get this game rolling.
Apr 16, 2018 12:04 am
Cool, glad you're feeling better!

Now that we've got our full group, do you have something in mind for our starting ship, or should we pick one?
Apr 16, 2018 1:09 am
Y'all aren't going to need a ship until the next section of the story (which I still need to figure out). You are all transported by the Empire somewhere for the beginning of the story here. Later on you will get your own ship at which point we can figure out a ship together.

Basically, the first act will be a "getting to know you" adventure that lets me get a feel of GMing. Then you get some contacts and a ship.
Apr 18, 2018 12:44 am
You got me along for the ride, I was thinking of playing of a bodyguard (probably a selonian) or a sneakier guy but I wasn't too sure because we have a smuggler.
Apr 18, 2018 2:16 am
Well, I'm not really a stickler when it comes to what character you play. We do seem to have fighting pretty well covered but if you want to play a bodyguard, go for it. Just make sure you justify your character on an Imperial exploration expedition.
Apr 18, 2018 5:45 am
Alright, given the theme of the campaign I'm gonna go for a Chadra-Fan Archaeologist, skills being intelligence focused. (gotta have a smart fellow on an expedition) Still figuring out the backstory, but I'm thinking he's technically a slave to the empire, but the Chadra-fan species are so friendly they see it as an exciting new adventure.

Edit: I should ask if I can take ranks in Warfare, it being an AOR skill and me using an EOTE class.

Apr 18, 2018 1:32 pm
I'll allow you to buy ranks in Warfare.

Also, you might not be with the Imperials forever so maybe a slave might not work out. But, just spit-balling here, maybe you could be the "expert" on this expedition since you are an Archaeologist. Maybe you have your PhD and that's why the Imperials hired you. Just some ideas.
Apr 18, 2018 6:07 pm
Alright, I believe my character sheet is complete. Let me know if anything seems wrong.
Apr 18, 2018 7:33 pm
If you could just note what your obligation means in specific terms that would be great (so I can work it in if needed).

Also, will everyone now roll destiny in the Destiny Thread. And that will also help me see if we've lost anyone and whether I need to go back out into the jungle to find another player.
Apr 18, 2018 10:01 pm
Alright, so everything seems to be in order. I have a busy next couple of days with a wedding I have to attend and help with. (Not my wedding just FYI). But first post should be up in the next couple of days at the latest.
Apr 18, 2018 10:33 pm
Forewarning: I will be without internet next week from Wednesday to Friday.

I'll be taking a trip to the Redwood National Parks to get pictures for a D&D-themed travel blog I started last month.

Noted Meribson. I will try to make sure you don't die.

We also have our 5th and final player.
Apr 19, 2018 1:02 am
I won't be around this weekend either, cause it's my bachelor party!
Apr 19, 2018 2:29 am
Well, hey! Congrats! We'll just plan for the game to start next week.
Apr 19, 2018 8:02 am
And just before the game does start, I'm here as your fifth and final player! I have two character concepts I can roll with, I'm assuming we get 10 Obligation XP? One character is Kaiten'airel'athor, a Chiss Colonist/Marshal who has exiled from the Ascendancy for exceeding her jurisdiction as an internal affairs agent. The other is Lynna Sellua, a Twi'lek Smuggler whose stats will need some work (she's configured as a Gunslinger, but that base seems covered) but whose background has her avoiding an arranged marriage on Ryloth. I can play as either happily, so it really comes down to what the group needs covering.
Apr 19, 2018 12:11 pm
The Chiss Marshal probably would be the best since we already have a gunslinger so we don't want to step on his toes. But if you think it would be an awesome character, who am I to stand in the way of awesomeness?

Also, if you could type that character out by clicking on the character tab above and submiting that character to this game, that would be great.
Apr 19, 2018 1:14 pm
Of course, I'll get on it. My only question would be how much social interaction there'll be? Marshal is geared in that direction and so I'd be moving that way, so it's worth knowing in advance.
Apr 19, 2018 4:33 pm
Have fun on your trips everyone.

@sebastianbruce: Alright I believe I have all the details in order.

@somebox: Looks good.

@ColonelCommissar: It won't be super heavy on social interaction but there will be enough later on in the game (not right away) in which it would come in handy.
Apr 19, 2018 10:27 pm
Right, I'm sure it will all fit together regardless. I've posted my character sheet to the game page, I hope it's all in order?
Apr 19, 2018 11:19 pm
It looks good. Now if you could roll up Destiny in that thread you should be good to go.
Apr 22, 2018 8:42 pm
By the way @ColonelCommissar, I have a pretty good idea of where the other characters fit into this expedition but do you have an idea of what role your character would play at least upfront? Basically, why did the Empire hire you to go on this expedition? Don't worry, the role you give does not mean its the role you play in the game or in the group.
Apr 22, 2018 9:42 pm
Of course. Longer-term Kaiten is following a lead, but for the moment she was hired by the Empire to assist the expedition as part-external security and part-internal security. In their view at least, she's like the other Chiss they've met and will happily report on any wrongdoing by the group to the Empire, as well as the obvious job of ensuring nothing too menacing eats them. What the Empire doesn't know is she has no real interest in doing so, but she'll happily pay lip service if any ISB agents happen to swing by for a little chat.
Apr 22, 2018 10:00 pm
Cool. Just FYI, the Empire might not be a super involved player in the future depending on how things turn out. Certainly a contact though.
Apr 22, 2018 10:09 pm
Of course, just thought I'd throw it in there. Let me know if there's anything more I can do to tie the character in (the same goes for the other PCs, it's never bad to set up some links beforehand).
Apr 25, 2018 2:42 am
If you can get the PCs connected, go for it. But that might have to happen while the game is actually going. ;-)
May 3, 2018 2:45 pm
I've submitted my first draft on a character. There are a few things that need tweaking, I'll post the full text for any source material, and since we're going along with the empire, that little tiny bit at the end of the backstory will get tweaked to go with the main story. Essentially my Squib is so nice he'll go along for any adventure, but still contractually obligated for his job (which could take him anywhere)

Right.

Note: I'm not planning on doing that much Force and Destiny. I will allow you to be a Force and Destiny character though.
May 3, 2018 3:41 pm
SebastianBruce says:
I'm not planning on doing that much Force and Destiny.
That makes two of us. Fiksu is force "illiterate" and doesn't understand what it is or really how to use it. It's little more than a tool that has kept him alive working in the space ports, mostly to keep him from getting smashed between large pieces of machinery.

I don't intend on him using the power much at all, and he's definitely not looking for a light saber. It's just a character facet that can be used by a GM or a player to add another level of dimension to the game or the player.
May 19, 2018 4:33 am
I don't know how it happened, but some of the skills on Tark's sheet on GP did not match the Tark I have on OggDude's Character Generator. GP had Streetwise and Ranged (light) as career skills, which they are not, and was missing his main combat skill. My best guess is that it was a hold over that didn't get fixed when I was torn between BH and Guardian.

Tark's GP sheet has been corrected to match the actual character as intended.
May 19, 2018 12:47 pm
No problem Meribson.
