It can be! Yeah! There is the Blood of Vol and the more violent cult offshoot, Order of the Emerald Claw, that I thought of playing a big part. They make great villains.
This character will be a very "gray path" necromancer. They see the immortality of undeath as a desirable goal. The elves have their Undying Court. They believe those elves to be a form of Lich or mummy. But the predatory undead...ghouls, vampires, etc....that have to feed or kill the living to continue their existence are evil and need to be eradicated. Mindless undead should not exist unless they serve a just purpose...like defending the borders of Karrnath. Convicted criminals who die before their sentence is served can finish their time as a zombie or skeleton soldier. A Karrnathian(?) citizen who dodged their mandatory service in the military can make it up after their death. But someone who lived an honest and good life deserves their rest, unless the need is very great.
So can I see them thinking that the Blood of Vol is OK in the beginning and learning that it is really an evil power in the world over time.

Do you think your character is still serving their time in the Karrnathi military? I've got an idea for an adventure that would take you into the mountains with a skeleton regiment.

Definitely young and just getting into their career. Not sure how many hp a skeleton has right now, but at 1st level she can only control 1HD worth...so a superior officer would need to be there to command.

Oh, I'm definitely planning on taking it easy until I see what your Dread Necro can handle. It's a new class for me and I don't have a ton of experience running 3.5. Especially not for a solo character.
