Thread to discuss character thoughts and idea’s. The way I’m thinking to start things is with you all already knowing one another and your party is in the Free City of Dawnsmoor looking for work as adventurers/sellswords but I’m happy to shift things in a different direction if anyone has any particular ideas they want to explore.
May 22, 2018 11:03 pm
Looking through the books I'm thinking of playing a melee-tank Stone-dweller orc who considers the party her family. However if any of you already were lining up something similar I was also interested in playing something different as a catfolk.
May 23, 2018 12:34 am
I was looking at playing a Human Primalist. Hard to nail down the description...so here is a link. Kind of a Druid/Barbarian mix. Sturdy but not the most tank-y. A good back up combatant and a healer.
May 23, 2018 12:00 pm
I'll go the odd route of randomizing...

Edit: Wanderer Gnome Scout it is... XD...

They look good, only thing I'd say is you might want to adjust your XP spend a bit and put more into stats - after character gen you only get to improve each one once through use of the Dedication talent which is also a bit more pricey to pick up than in the Star Wars lines of games due to the way the talent pyramid works. You can submit the character to the game whilst you're working on it if you'd like.

I looked at it and did some test rolling on the site, and I agree. I rolled back all my skills to 1 and took Cunning up to 3.

Also, rolling for cash...

EDIT: Aw...I got a whammy...but actually it makes sense for my character to be broke.

Loving all the characters so far peeps. I'll be working on a few things for the game over the weekend now I've a better feel for how the party is shaping up and I'll be hoping to kick things off early next week.

Sounds great to me.

I've got my backstory set up, let me know if any of y'all have any specific ideas regarding the characters knowing each other.

Nya has been submitted.
May 30, 2018 4:50 am
I have updated my character's backstory. I chose an owlbear cub as her animal companion...and the shape she will change into with that talent, hope that is ok.

Here is a link to the way Prong will look transformed. The companion is much younger looking.

Prong came to the city young and looking for adventure. She tried making a living as a street performer, but she wasn't very good. Adventuring has proven more lucrative. So if someone feels like they might have picked up a stray kid...or fallen in with her career jump to adventuring...we can forge a party link around that.
May 30, 2018 9:26 am
Nya has spent a lot of time on the streets as well, she definitely would have taken a big-sister role to watching over Prong, if that works?

Hi guys, sorry for the delay in getting things started. Last week was a bit crazy so I was focusing on keeping the other games I’m running/in up to date before I started on anything else. Hoping to get things rolling on here later today/tomorrow.

Hey all, new player here! I'll be taking some time to read up on what's already happened before coming up with a character concept…but I usually play an agile magic user. I hope there's room for one of those here :p
Nov 29, 2018 5:36 pm
Hi! Yeah we don’t have any magic users yet so that’ll be a good addition :)

I’ve actually thought about doing a Templar-style Scholar character, would that work? Sort of a tomb-robber/archaeologist/Indiana Jones type?

Sorry to hear that, my condolences. We lost my fiancée’s grandmother a few weeks ago so I can appreciate where your priorities are sitting right now.

Thank you, I appreciate that. In this case, my mother went into hospice a couple weeks ago and they didn’t expect her to make it through the month.... and they were right as she passed yesterday afternoon....

So getting my mind a little here and there around a character concept is a relief in this case. :)

So where are we at with characters guys? You had any thoughts/questions about what you're thinking?
Dec 6, 2018 8:28 pm
I keep going back and forth between buying up 2 or three attributes. Three attribute I know gives me that much more flexibility, but I don’t have much left for Skills/Talents.

Is there just the starting 100 XP available to us?

Well during character creation it’s a good idea to drop a decent chunk of XP into your stats as they’re really expensive to increase later on.

You can both have another 15 xp to spend on top of your racial XP but you’d have to spend it after your starting xp (so cant be used towards stats)

Just to let y'all know that I'm still working on things. It's been hella busy with my two jobs, so I've not had much free time.

I'll get my character done in the next few days. Preliminary idea: catgirl primal magic user!

No worries, I'm not in a massive rush to get peeps in was just more wanting to see if either of you needed any assistance or anything :)
Dec 10, 2018 5:48 pm
I think my concept is changing slightly towards more of an Arcane Magus. A traveler from Irram, Al-Kalim. Far from home on a quest for the arcane not ‘tainted’ by the Djinni. He’s just learning to appreciate Runeshards for just that reason.

Alrighty. So terribly sorry that I've not gotten this done sooner. I'm working on my character now.

I'm doing a catfolk primal magic user. But I'm not sure if I want to use the druid career (from the CRB) or the primalist (from RoT).

I like the primal magic of both (obviously) but the primalist has Alchemy and Kno (Lore) as as career skills (yay!) but also Melee (Heavy) and Medicine (umm…no thanks, I have magic). And the druid has Athletics and Vigilance. Both good skills.

Unless Mr. GM mcneils5 will allow me to swap the two unwanted skills from primalist for the wanted ones from druid, of course!

Sorry about taking so long to get character together, but one thing after another slowed me down. :(

I have a couple of questions :)

could the Signature Weapon Heroic Ability be a Magical Staff? I see it as he found the weapon (Staff of Jafar, a companion of A’Ten who aided in the discovery of the secrets of the Djinni.) on an expedition into one of the lost cities where he also discovered about Runeshards and the untainted magic they contain/provide.

Can runeshards be part of such an item? I know wouldn’t start with any, but as the character grows, I see the Staff being something of a container for such shards...

I do appreciate any suggestions. :)

Hmmm, well I can't see any reason why you couldn't use one as a Signature Weapon, it just depends if you think you'll be spending a lot of time hitting people with the staff rather than casting spells at them but I'm fine with the idea if that's what you want to go with.

I'd be happy saying you could have a staff designed to house a rune shard if you ever find one and we could tweak the signature item a bit to have some interaction with the shard maybe....would be interesting to work through :)

I'm fine with that tweak :)

Both of your characters are approved, will look to get you slotted into the game within the next couple of days but given it's Christmas next week I'm not expecting much activity from anyone (myself included) for the next couple of weeks

Cool. :)

Even Gandalf and Allanon had swords. :)

As a weapon, I see it more as a good to have kind of thing and useful to drive the Parry Talent. Would having it be made of Yew (Implement Materials, RoT page 99) be doable? Would definitely give it more of a defending feel I think. :)

Yeah that's fine, if you'd selected a weapon rather than an implement you'd get to pick a material to craft it from anyway.

I'm going to introduce the two of you as having been travelling together for some time, maybe following rumors or tales of something, and you're currently just east of Dawnsmoor and not far from Kurnan Lake but I'll leave the exact details to you both

Just wanted to post a couple of the spells for Abadai. I will probably do more, but thoughts on these are welcome. :)

* Cyclone (Attack+Impact+Range+Manip), 2 Strain
Daunting (PPPP), Range: Medium, Damage: 3, Knockdown, Disorient 1, Adv to move 1 Range Band
(Staff makes it Hard (PPP), Damage: 7)

* Sirocco (Attack+Fire+Range), 2 Strain
Hard (PPP), Range: Medium, Damage: 3, Burn 1
(Staff makes Range: Long, Damage: 7)

* Djinn’s Strength (Barrier+Defense), 2 Strain
Hard (PPP), Range: Engaged, +1 Def, reduce damage by (1+1/2 additional successes)
(Staff makes Range: Short, restores 1 Strain)

Hi, folks! Looks like I'll be joining you. I just read over this thread, and it looks like a lot of magic users and a rogue? Would a traditional tank be useful? Or a bard who can double as the party face?
Feb 10, 2019 3:45 am
Howdy SavageBob. I think the role of tank-fighter is technically me, but don't let that stop you if it looks interesting. A bard/face would also benefit us, I have Coerce and both Aya & Pomin have high cunning for deception, someone who can persuade would even us out.
Feb 10, 2019 4:01 am
Hey there! OK, sounds good. I'll take a look at some possible face options. Looks like Pomin's got the bard slot covered, so maybe something non-magical, like an Envoy from the Terrinoth book, or an Entertainer or Leader from the CRB.
Feb 10, 2019 9:34 am
Well I’m pretty happy with you playing whatever you want and I’ll fit the game to accommodate the group makeup. To be clear there’s only one magic user out of the active PC’s now. Group is made up as follows:

Pomin - Scout
Aya - Primalist
Khurza - warrior
Feb 10, 2019 5:58 pm
Well, I noticed that Pomin and Khurza have talents that let them use Verse and Divine, respectively. Are they not really leaning into magic, though?

I've got a pretty good concept for a Leadership-oriented fighter type using the Leader career from the CRB or the Envoy career from RoT. Probably a Human with 3s in Brawn, Discipline, and Presence. The schtick would be to focus on social talents to make him useful outside of combat, along with stuff like Inspiring Rhetoric, Field Commander, etc. to make him a good buffer in combat (along with swinging his sword).

The other idea is to import a Star Wars character I played briefly in a PbP that folded way too early. I'd retool him as a Human Disciple and focus on Divine, along with general social abilities for outside of combat. He was a fun character, and I'd love to get him back into action. He'd probably get 3s in Intellect, Willpower, and Presence, or maybe a 4 in Willpower and a 3 in Presence? Tough to decide with Divine being tied to Willpower.

I've got some background and personality ideas for both characters. As of right now, I'm leaning toward the Leadership-focused guy. I guess I'm just curious how Khurza sees Divine playing into her future development.
Feb 10, 2019 7:32 pm
The divine aspect is something I actually have been neglecting. Templar is fairly limited compared to full spellcasting but I took it for when we are in a pinch (only once per encounter). Focus is much more on front line support. Storywise I should probably develop it a bit more.

With this info in mind @GM am I able to self cast heal? It would be in my interest to do so, keep Aya from burning through strain.

How'd you like me to treat earned XP, mcneils5? Should I add 25 earned XP to be on par with the rest of the party? Or start fresh?

Start with 15 earned XP, won't put you too far behind everyone else

Yeah you can cast heal on yourself (the devs clarified that a while ago I think as there was quite a lot of debate) - you might as well given we're technically at the end of the encounter so it'll refresh for the next scene anyway
