Cauldron is located within a small mountain range in the midst of the Amedio Jungle, approximately two days south of the port city of Sasserine. The foothills surrounding the taller mountains are rugged and covered with scrub, but are fairly open for several miles before giving way to rolling savannas. These savannas then transform into particularly dense sub-tropical jungles a few miles farther out from the mountains. This region is true frontier land; a few villages sit in the foothills and lowlands, but aside from these and the roads, the area is still wilderness.

The climate is subtropical, with temperatures ranging from lows of around 50º in the winter and highs of 90º or higher in the summer, with quite a lot of humidity year-round.

Points of Interest

The Lucky Monkey — This is a large roadside inn that marks the halfway point on the road between Cauldron and Sasserine.

The Demonskar — This terrible crater in the middle of the trackless jungle was once the home of the demon army that stood against Cauldron founder Surabar Spellmason at the Battle of Redgorge nearly 700 years ago.

Haunted Village — This ruined settlement, once called Liduton, was founded shortly after Redgorge. It thrived for a short time before most of its inhabitants perished during the Battle of Redgorge. Its founder, a necromancer and compatriot of Surabar Spellmason, attempted to use her magic to raise an undead army to defend the village. This attempt ended in tragedy, however, as the undead army turned on the citizens. Rumors persist that powerful undead creatures still roam the village's streets.

Keep of Jarl Khurok — Giants and ogres, led by Jarl Khurok, were once quite the problem for Cauldron, until a band of adventurers stole into the giant king's keep and assassinated him. What lurks in the abandoned keep these days is unknown.

Ruins of Shatterhorn — This site was once the location of a yuan-ti city, built around a huge spire of rock that the creatures believed was an instrument they could use to communicate with their deity. The yuan-ti presence drastically declined over the years, and the city now lies in ruins, haunted by all manner of monsters.

Lair of Hookface — This is the lair of the red dragon Hookface, who first came to the region around 200 years ago. He terrorized traveling merchants and the settlements in the region for nearly a century. No heroes were able to defeat him. He then retreated to this lair, the location of which is widely known and wisely feared.
