A group of students encountered what seem to be an alien race during a summer camp in Vermont. They were either kidnapped , killed or driven mad with one exception - Mathis Steele.

As an employee of FOC - Federated Oil and Chemical, you are part of a private army serving as a soldier. Your current mission is that of babysitting. You are set up in a base, some way from a farmhouse, on the outskirts of the town of Cobb’s Corners where a group of scientists, students (including Mathis) and your commanding officer, Sam Morrison. The hope is that this group will draw out the "aliens", which your employer, Michael Abelard, has an obsession with. One of the company's engineers, Larry Nekler, is in charge of a field radio at the farmhouse. He is in regular contact and should anything happen, you and your colleagues are on standby, ready for action.

Note that you have never seen these aliens but rumours have it they are real. Others in the army captured one alive though it was stashed in the R and D department. Whether you believe that these things exist or are something more natural to earth, is up to you and depends on your character’s worldview.

Mathis Steele
Engineering student and survivalist at Misk U and surviving member of last years school excursion to Cobb's Corners. Has supposedly experienced the aliens and even has one of their weapons in his possession. Has shown paranoid behaviour , especially with authority, and had a run in with the local sherriff last year. Described as a loose cannon, you need to keep a close eye on this one.

The Enemy

The Enemy as they are referred to in FOC headquarters are supposedly an alien race of flying insect type creatures, also known as the Mi-Go. Personally you know very little about them except they are dangerous, they use technology beyond our current understanding including the ability to transfer minds from one vessel to another. As a result, they have agents walking around in human bodies, indistiguisable from other humans, which makes Abelard incredibly paranoid about everyone, even his employees.
The creatures seem to be fascinated with a mineral called Pasquallium, found in the Vermont hills. Part of the original expedition (secretly funded by FOC) was to locate this material. This expedition (unbeknownst to the students) is to use them as bait, draw out the enemy and track them to their base.

Mission Priorities:

Kill or capture any Mi-Go encountered

Locate and infiltrate base of operations of The Enemy (possibly somewhere in the hills north of Cobb's Corners)

Protect FOC employees

Protect the students

Now....

It seems like it’s been weeks, not just a few days that you’ve been sitting in the camp in the Vermont woods. As beautiful as the place is, babysitting a bunch of scientists and students from a distance is a far cry from your military experience but FOC pay well, even when there’s nothing to do. No-one among the 24 man squad have seen the Enemy, but rumours are abound.
They are from outer space
They steal people and transfer brains into their bodies
They have weird technology
They bleed and turn to green goo when killed.

That last one sticks with all of you, if they bleed, they can be killed, but that doesn’t stop you being on edge that you might have to face something not of this earth.

On the other hand , Mr Abelard, owner of FOC, might just be crazy. He blames The Enemy for the death of his family and wants to wipe them off the planet, but an alien that can look like a human, indistinguishably so, is a convenient conspiracy theory for a crazed mind and his paranoia, even with his own people, is obvious.

Larry Nekler, the engineer at the farm house, remains in regular contact. The house has been reinforced and trapped up the wazoo so nothing can get near. The only excitement came in the shape of a pig wandering into a trap. You imagine they ate well that day.

OOC:
I’ll leave you to describe yourselves and what others might know about you.

Former Marine from Boston and Sid’s cousin, Elijah tends not to talk much about his past. The only one who he really talks to is his cousin Sidney ‘Sid’ Holister who he knows from Boston and shares his love for the Red Sox. Elijah is very religious and his faith is everything to him, he is never seen without his Rosary and a small bible in his pocket. If there are others that share his religious views he would be more open with them.

Born and raised on the plains of West Texas, a rancher's son and Baptist, Michael Hughes left home and went to college. His father died during school and with no where to turn afterwards, Michael joined the military. He now finds himself working for the FOC wondering if he will ever return to the Lone Star State.
Sep 4, 2018 7:33 pm
Another former Marine from Boston and cousin to Elijah Hollister, Sid is a die hard Red Sox fan and everyone knows it. He is rarely without his well worn lucky Red Sox hat. Most of the time when not on duty he can be seen pouring over baseball statistics or playing catch with others or just himself. Though obstinately known as a ladies man Sid is back together with his childhood sweetheart and one true love Ann. They are once again engaged to be married and when he's not talking about the Red Sox he is usually talking about her.

Sid has made it known to the group (though not to those above him) that his priority is to capture one of the aliens and avoid killing them if at all possible. He has vaguely talked about wanting to acquire their technology for earth and possibly make peace with them if it is something they would agree to.

After three days of total boredom, there comes a frantic call from Nekler. They need a squad, ASAP! Grabbing weapons, six of you that make up squad one, leap into a truck and burn off toward the farmhouse with Taffy at the wheel.

The truck tears through the night and pouring rain, toward the farmhouse. Drills over the last few weeks have made you familiar with this terrain and though you've not met the students or researchers with the exception of Nekler and Morrison, you are sworn to keep them alive and right now it seems they're in trouble. Approaching the house, you see their two vehicles out front, people hurriedly piling into them. Suddenly you see something looming out the darkness at the back of the house, towering overhead.
OOC:
Sanity check please
It looks like a massive tree but it's moving, smashing up the reinforced rear of the farmhouse. Taffy slows as you pass the students and you shout out the window for them to get to home base. Before you get a response, the truck flies down the side of the farmhouse and rams into the base of the tree.

ooc: What's going on with the game right now?
Sep 23, 2018 4:02 pm
OOC:
Sorry for the delay. I've been busy with other stuff. So the truck have just rammed this huge moving tree. You've all come away unscathed, mentally and physically, but what do you do now?
Sep 25, 2018 7:24 am
OOC:
Ok, given the lack of input, I'm going to move this along...
Frozen in a mixture of fear and confusion, no-one acts. The huge branches of the tree swing like massive flexible tentacles.

Taffy slams the truck into reverse, tearing backwards in a rush of brush and wood. Pulling back a short way he revs then flies forward again.

"Hold on , Boyos!" He shouts as he rams the thing a second time. This seems to do the trick. The thing pulls itself out by its roots, almost massive feet and begins to move away from the house and across the field behind.

Watching in horror, several flying figures appear overhead, in the same direction. It's impossible to make them out in the darkness and rain, but they are definately not airplanes, more organic.

Taffy slowly pulls forward into the field and the "tree" is joined by two others and they lurch slowly across the field, with the flying figures overhead. Taffy's mad ramming seems to have driven them off.

"Looks like they're headed to Broken Mountain. It must be their base! Those things, flying, they must be the Enemy!"
Sep 25, 2018 8:17 am
In shock Elijah can only look up in disbelief for a bit. Coming out of it he addresses the group. Well, you don't see that every day. Shall we follow them to their base now or wait and secure the area here?
Sep 26, 2018 1:08 am
Michael clenches his jaw and watches as the creatures leave. He whispers to Elijah You sure don't. An answer to his first remark. It's just us out here. Might as well give chase. Better to be bold than do nothing.

Sid's eyes widen as he realizes the thing he thought was a tree starst walking and is shortly joined by two others. The flying creatures also intrigue and frighten him as the same time. He reaches into his pocket and grips his baseball to steady his nerves. "Let's follow at a safe distance and find out where these things are heading. Radio base and make them aware of our situation."
Sep 26, 2018 7:14 am
"You got it, Sid," nods Taffy, taking it slow across the field. As the field gives way to farm land, the rain has turned the whole area to mud, making the ground difficult but the truck is designed to hard terrain.

Jones gets on the radio, but all he hears is static. Trying again, nothing, then a click and someone responds. The radio transmits loud screams and yelling, "We're under attack, repeat, we're under attack!"

Sounds of Gun fire then static.
Sep 26, 2018 3:49 pm
"Taffy, turn around and head back to base." Sid yells. "These things will have to wait. I don't think we'll have any trouble finding them again after we secure the base. Jones, keep on the radio with base and let them know we are heading back. Try to get someone there to let us know what the hell is going on!"

OOC:
Quick Intro First
Barry "Taffy" Evans is a former soldier from Cardiff, Wales, who followed his older brother, Gerald, to the fields of Belgium in the Great War in 1916. Taffy begin work at a young age in the coal mines outside Cardiff and because of this was a natural fit for the Royal Engineers. As a sapper, he found himself heavily involved in tunneling and demolitions, and it was in this latter duty that Taffy fell victim to a mistimed explosion, one that caused partial hearing loss in his left ear and an unplanned bridge collapse for which Barry was assumed KIA. He spent nearly a year in a German POW camp, during which time his great love, Jenny, and their new born daughter, Sidney, were forced to move on with their lives. Barry still carries a picture of his daughter, though he has little relationship with her, a fact that continues to torment him to this day.

Taffy is of moderate build - around 5'10" and 180 lbs. He has a ruddy complexion with sandy blond hair, and his face is dominated by a large burn on one side of his face, the result of the above mentioned mistimed explosion. Barry is deeply nihilistic, distant and lacking social graces due to his experiences during the Great War and the loss of his family.

Taffy glances at the radio and then to Sid and nods silently. He cranks the wheel hard-left on the truck in an effort to do a 180 back to base.

Taffy pulls the wheel around, hitting just the right amount of brake to spin the truck around without getting stuck in the mud, throwing everyone around in their seats, before roaring off back toward camp. There's a reason this man is your driver and no-one in FOC handles a vehicle like Taffy.

The rain is not letting up but at least the sight of the flying creatures is out of view, though some of you glance through the windows to try and catch sight of them.

As you fly over the field, once again reaching the now half torn down farmhouse, Taffy instinctively screeches to a halt, jolting everyone. A woman stands alone, just feet in front of the vehicle, waving her arms. You recognise it as one of FOC's scientists, Dr Sarah Masterson.
Sep 30, 2018 3:12 am
Taffy leaves the car running and opens the driver's side door, his hand shielding his eyes from the driving rain.

Come, it's not safe here, miss! Taffy shouts over the storm and sound of the engine, his hand extended to the woman in an attempt to bring her into the vehicle.
Oct 1, 2018 2:23 am
Sid jumps out of the truck weapon at the ready. He scans the area for any immediate threats."Everyone out! Fan out and secure the immediate area. Dr. Masterson, what happened here?"
Oct 1, 2018 7:19 am
"It's the. Those, ..." she then looks up directly into Sid's eyes, "The Enemy are here!" she then breaks into uncontrollable sobbing and drops to her knees.

~As soon as she does, two sets of headlights appear on the road, approaching.
Oct 1, 2018 11:47 am
"Aye Sir! Without hesitation Elijah jumps out and begins following orders. Fanning out from the others he begins securing the immediate area while looking out for other survivors and the enemies.
Oct 2, 2018 7:16 am
"Sid, still no response from the camp," shouts Schonower, having taken the radio from Jones.
