Anthat a sprawling metropolis under the rule of a the King Titamus and his titled kin. King Titamus's rule over the city state is tenuous at best with his dependence on the wealthy merchants, a rival in power in the wizardess Praxima Cristara, and the influential criminal organizations flourishing in the chaos of the city.
Anthat is surrounded by large walls guarded by a standing army. The city has few real enemies since it thrives on commerce and has many allies that needs its goods. Anthat provides food to the Dwarves of the eastern mountains and iron and steel to the sea cities in the west. Anthat borders the large chasm to the north called The Sundering. The Sundering is so large nobody has seen the other side and it is so deep no one has seen the bottom. To the south Anthat borders The Azure Serpent, a might river originating from the east.
There are many districts in Anthat
The East Lows and The West Lows
This is where the poorest of the poor live. Brick, mortar, mud and castaway wood houses are stacked one upon the other. The East Lows are policed not by the city guard but by thugs and street gangs. These districts are large and make up most of the population of Anthat.
The Coin
This district has a stone wall surrounding it. The coin houses the bankers, money lenders, merchants of repute and the wealthy that have no title.
Tinderwood
Tinderwood is the the greenest of the districts. It surrounds a rupture emanating from the fey realm. The district is marked by its large green trees, meadows and bubbling brooks. It is the home to many fey creatures, centaurs, fairies and trolls. This district is infamous for its riotous parties and gluttonous festivals. However many a tale tell of people that wander into Tinderwood and never come out.
The Hotholes
This is more of an area than a district. It borders the large chasm to the north called The Sundering. The Sundering is so large nobody has seen the other side. Rumors abound about what is on the other side. Some say it is the edge of world. Some say a land of milk and honey lies on the other side, others the land of great gods and demons.
The Musk
This district is known for animal husbandry. You can find all sorts of animals for work or for food. Each month in the middle of The Musk are held the Samdu races. The only time the rich rub elbows with the poor.
Gobbledygook
Also called Goblin Town, this district has a reputation for all things unsavory.
Magnus
King Titamus and his title and land owning ilk have homes in the Magnus district. The district is strictly guarded by the royal guard.
Docktown
Near the docks on the river Azure is Docktown. Much of the wealth of Anthat comes and goes though Docktown.
The Belows
Gnomes, dwarves and others that have a love of living underground make their home in tunnels carved from the earth. Some say The Belows are a city unto itself.
The Scales
The reptilians (lizardfolk) are treated worse than any other race. People complain about their smell. They get annoyed with their accents when speaking Anthan. Too many "esses" they say. They don't allow reptilians that are molting into their shops saying they will stink the place up. All of this resentment has driven the green creatures to live in their own district.
Other smaller areas
There are many other areas and small districts in Anthat. In fact the borders of most districts are fluid and change over time.
Some other notable areas are:
- Artist's Alley a place of fine works of art.
- The Smith's Quarter where wainrights, blacksmiths and coopers ply their trade.
- The farmlands are outside the city walls. They keep the large population fed.
- Local shrines to many of the small divinities or spirits that live in the area.
