Initial Question - Point buy or dice rolls? I'm up for either.

Also will probably end up playing a Dalish Elf, because I love them.
Sep 3, 2018 6:41 pm
I'm okay with either. If you choose dice rolls, I'm generally okay applying a lesser level of point buy as a floor to keep characters from being too useless.
Sep 3, 2018 6:47 pm
Sounds good. I'm now considering the Rivaini Merchant or Escaped Elven Slave as well as the Dalish, so I'll see what I roll.
Sep 3, 2018 7:30 pm
Rolling for stats, I'll assign them after the rolls, instead of in order if that's okay.

Escaped Elven Slave, Rogue

Communication: 3

Constitution: 1

Cunning: 2

Dexterity: 4 (3+1 from Traits)

Magic: 0

Perception: 4

Strength: 2 (1+1 from Background)

Willpower: 1

Trait Rolls
5: Communication (Deception)
8: +1 Dexterity

Full disclosure: this will be my first time playing. I'm loosely familiar with the system and have built characters for it before, but thing will probably still take some getting used to. I like to think I can make up for that with my roleplaying and my knowledge of the setting. Hope that's okay!

I haven't played this since it's first release, and even then it was super brief, barely enough to get into it, and I was DMing rather than playing. So same! There's a lot more to it now, which is nice though.

Side note: I know we already have four, but I have a friend who's interested in giving this a go, would the GM be okay with a fifth or would that be too much?
Sep 3, 2018 8:04 pm
Can we get separated threads for each persons character creation?
Sep 3, 2018 8:30 pm
I'm okay with five if the first four all agree.

I'll create separate character threads for each of the players, but I'll leave them open rather than secret.

He's called Remus here, if you want to invite him.
Sep 3, 2018 9:08 pm
Works for me.
Sep 3, 2018 9:19 pm
Not to gripe but are you sure we can't just freely assign our stat rolls? Even with swapping one, all my crap ones came up on Rogue primaries. Assigning in order kinda takes the fun out of building a character.
Sep 3, 2018 9:33 pm
The rule exists to avoid min maxing and single direction characters. But I certainly would prefer that players play the characters they want. Feel free to assign as desired.
Sep 3, 2018 9:49 pm
I know why it exists, but sometimes I feel like it can detract from the fun more than min-maxing can. Thanks for allowing it, and I'm genuinely sorry for whining this early in the game. I just feel like it's more fun to play a character, even if it is min-maxed, that's good at what they do, rather than being useless at everything they're supposed to be built for.

So, is anyone here looking to delve into the wonderful world of BLOOD MAGIC?

Because, y'know, nothing ever went wrong because of blood magic.
Sep 4, 2018 2:44 pm
Sent an invite to Remus.
Sep 4, 2018 3:58 pm
Thanks!

Just like to say, I'm switching up my background to Rivaini Merchant (Have a better concept in mind for it). I'll edit my stats to reflect it and reroll traits in a second.
Sep 4, 2018 5:43 pm
Hey y'all! I'll have a character up pretty soon, probably going to play a Qunari warrior.

I'll just roll my stats here in lieu of a character creation thread.

On second thoughts maybe I'll point buy.

How are we all doing on character creation? Thielindra and Astonishingantman have submitted:

Kelsie, a human refugee circle mage
Antoine, an Orlesian Exile rogue

Bleak was working on a Rivaini Merchant, Rogue
Remus on a Qunari Warrior
Happy_Potato on: Calder, a Fereldan Freeman Warrior (2 handed style)

I'm ready to go (Sans a few shopping pieces I need to pick up), just gathering up my ideas for a backstory into something mildly comprehensible. I'm going with a Rivaini Merchant with absolutely no sense of direction.
Sep 8, 2018 6:22 pm
Submit a character sheet when you get a chance, and I'll review it.
Sep 8, 2018 6:33 pm
I submitted my character
Sep 10, 2018 1:29 am
Alright, we have five characters and backstories. Just waiting for Bleak to submit a sheet and we can get started. I'll post the intro scene tomorrow (probably later in the day).
Sep 11, 2018 1:54 am
Now, as someone who's never actually played on the site before, what's the preferred writing style? It seems like third person, current tense? IE, "Antoine sits down", not "I sit down" or "Antoine sat down".
Sep 11, 2018 2:00 am
It varies for sure. First person is more immersive, but I'm more comfortable writing in third. I personally don't mind if you switch on your whim.
Sep 11, 2018 2:14 am
Definitely would prefer third person. So, present tense as well?
Sep 11, 2018 2:19 am
Present tense works great.
Sep 19, 2018 2:37 am
Okay, switched up my tense to match Bleak, just cause I feel more comfortable with it anyway.

When a game goes quiet, it's generally a sign of one of three things.
1) that players are all simultaneously and coincidentally busy with life
2) the players don't know what to do next
3) interest has waned

In the interests of not wasting too much of our time, any thoughts?
Oct 13, 2018 4:59 pm
Regretfully, I've found that I don't really know what I'm doing with Carmen. If that makes any sense. I don't quite know what I want hey motivations or personality to be, and it's making it difficult for me to get into character. There is also a little bit of confusion as to what's happening.
Oct 13, 2018 6:18 pm
In not sure I can help with the first part, but as to the second:

You agreed to Knight Captain Rylen to look into this disturbance at the village involving that old man's dead wife apparently risen from her grave. You traveled all night through a sand storm, and them slept in the old man's house. Now you've woken up and went outside, startling the townsfolk.

I think I'm gonna have to go on hiatus, y'all. College is A Lot at the moment, which is why I've been MIA for the last week or so.

astonishingantman says:

I get that. What are you studying?
Oct 13, 2018 10:09 pm
History, at the moment. I'm transferring to another school though, so I'm just working on a lot of application stuff. That's most of the busywork.
Oct 13, 2018 10:47 pm
History sounds awesome. I'm running a Celtic themed D&D game (Roman invasion of Albion) and just love reading up on the actually history of the era.
Oct 13, 2018 11:26 pm
That sounds incredible! That's a setting I've always wanted to play in. Love games with a historical bent.

I suppose I should pull the plug on this one. Thanks for joining and contributing while it lasted.
